its greens and bunkers. The greens were recontoured to enhance their playability, while the bunkers were redesigned to better challenge golfers and integrate more seamlessly into the landscape. These updates have not only preserved the aesthetic appeal of the course but have also made it more challenging and enjoyable for golfers.
Hanse’s work at Inniscrone is characterized by its strategic use of the natural terrain. The course features a mix of links-style holes and traditional parkland holes, creating a diverse and dynamic playing experience. The links-style holes, with their open fairways and challenging bunkers, contrast beautifully with the tree-lined parkland holes, providing a variety of golfing experiences in one course.
The design of Inniscrone is also notable for its emphasis on strategy. Golfers are required to think carefully about each shot, considering not just the distance but also the placement and angle of approach. This thoughtful design makes Inniscrone a course that players can enjoy repeatedly, discovering new challenges and opportunities with each round.

Maintaining the high standards set by Hanse’s design requires continuous effort and investment. Over the years, Inniscrone Golf Club has undertaken several renovations to ensure that the course remains in pristine condition and continues to offer a top-tier golfing experience.
One of the most significant renovations occurred in the early 2010s. This comprehensive update focused on improving the course’s infrastructure, particularly its drainage and irrigation systems. The enhancements were essential for maintaining the quality of the fairways and greens, especially during periods of heavy rain. Improved drainage helps to prevent waterlogging, ensuring that the course remains playable even in adverse weather conditions.
In addition to infrastructure upgrades, Inniscrone has also invested in modernizing
Another notable improvement was the introduction of eco-friendly practices in course maintenance. Coastal Romance Blossoms At The Shore House A Seaside Hallmark Love Story In Narragansett
Rhode Island
By Joe Burkhardt, Publisher
On a recent visit, I found The Shore House to be charming, quaint, with a laid back casual feel of a Hallmark Movie and a beautiful ocean view of Narragansett Beach across the street that puts you somewhere else in time. Most people visiting the New England area have heard of Newport as the premier destination in Rhode Island. But just a short 30 minutes away is a gem of a beach town called Narragansett– rich in history, that is second to none when visiting beautiful Rhode Island, and I highly recommend a stay at The Shore House.
Built in 1901, The Shore House is a historic establishment that has played a significant role in the town’s maritime and cultural heritage. This picturesque venue, which combines a hotel and a restaurant, has a rich history dating back to the 19th century, reflecting the evolving landscape and community of Narragansett.
EARLY BEGINNINGS AND 19TH CENTURY
Narragansett, located along the scenic coast of Rhode Island, became a popular summer resort destination in the late 1800s, attracting wealthy families from cities like Boston and New York. The Shore House was originally constructed during this period, likely in the 1880s, as part of the broader development boom that sought to capitalize on the town’s natural beauty and proximity to the ocean. The original structure served as a summer retreat for affluent guests seeking a respite from the heat and bustle of urban life.
The architectural style of The Shore House, like many of the buildings from that era, reflected the grandiose and ornate designs favored by the wealthy
elite. Its Victorian-style architecture, complete with intricate woodwork and expansive porches, made it an iconic landmark along the Narragansett coastline.
20TH CENTURY TRANSFORMATION
Throughout the early 20th century, The Shore House continued to operate as a prominent seaside hotel, drawing tourists with its stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and its reputation for luxury. However, the Great Depression and World War II led to a decline in the popularity of such resorts, and The Shore House, like many similar establishments, faced financial challenges.
In the post-war era, the property underwent several transformations. By the mid-20th century, it had shifted from being an exclusive hotel to a more accessible destination, catering to a broader audience including middle-class families. The evolution of the tourism industry, combined with changes in transportation and leisure trends, meant that The Shore House needed to adapt to survive.
OWNERSHIP AND RENOVATIONS
Ownership of The Shore House has changed hands numerous times over the years. Each new owner brought their
vision and attempts to modernize and restore the historic property. By the late 20th century, the building had begun to show signs of wear, necessitating significant renovations to preserve its historical integrity while updating it to meet contemporary standards.
In the 1980s and 1990s, The Shore House saw substantial investments aimed at revitalizing the property. Efforts were made to restore the building’s exterior to its former glory while updating the interiors to provide modern amenities for guests. These renovations helped to solidify The Shore House’s reputation as a premier destination in Narragansett.
21ST CENTURY AND CURRENT OWNERSHIP
In recent years, The Shore House has continued to thrive under the new ownership of TPG Hotel & Resorts reflecting a renewed interest in preserving historic properties while making them appealing to modern tourists. The current owners, who acquired the property in the have undertaken extensive renovations to enhance the guest experience while maintaining the historical character of the building. As General Manager Ali Bonsignore noted “renovations were done in 2019 and will undergo a soft remodel this winter”. There are nine main rooms in the Main Inn and another twenty-one rooms behind the main inn.
The Shore House now operates as both a hotel and a restaurant, offering visitors a unique blend of historical charm and contemporary comfort.
The restaurant Seacraft, which has become a popular dining destination in Narragansett, serves a variety of dishes that highlight local seafood and ingredients, emphasizing the coastal heritage of the region. Seacraft restaurant is also very relaxing, quaint and elegant casual with great food and a great wine selection that you don’t even have to leave the property to dine.
CULTURAL AND COMMUNITY IMPACT
Beyond its role as a tourist destination, The Shore House has played an integral part in the local community of Narragansett. It has hosted numerous events, from weddings to community gatherings, and remains a symbol of the
town’s historical and cultural identity.
The property’s continued operation and preservation efforts underscore the importance of maintaining historical landmarks, not just as relics of the past but as vibrant components of the community’s present and future.
The Shore House that is open from April - October and the restaurant year round stands as a testament to Narragansett’s rich history and enduring

NOBU Restaurant at Caesars Palace Atlantic City is designed to provide an intimate and elegant dining environment. The decor is a harmonious blend of modern aesthetics and traditional Japanese elements. The space is characterized by warm lighting, natural wood tones, and minimalist design, creating an atmosphere that is both upscale and welcoming. This thoughtful ambiance is further enhanced by the restaurant’s strategic location within the casino, offering diners a serene escape from the high-energy surroundings.
THE CULINARY EXPERIENCE
NOBU Atlantic City’s menu showcases a diverse array of dishes that highlight the brand’s signature style—infusing Japanese cuisine with Peruvian influences and modern culinary techniques. The menu is divided
into several categories, including cold dishes, hot dishes, sushi, and sashimi, offering something for every palate.
I will admit, I am not much of a raw fish guy and restaurant Manager Ryan Catanio changed that and I can say opened my palate up to some of these dishes I’d be missing.
Nobu Cold dishes that included New Style Salmon - Salmon Sashimi, set in yuzu soy with garlic puree, sliced ginger, chives and sesame seeds lightly seared with a blend of hot sesame and olive oil that I would have again.
Fluke Sashimi w/Dry Miso - Fluke sashimi with a yuzu juice and olive oil blend, topped with dry miso crumble and chives. Enjoy a garlic chip with each bite for additional texture and flavor that I would absolutely have again.
SIGNATURE DISHES
Black Cod Miso: One of NOBU’s most famous dishes, the Black Cod Miso is a succulent piece of cod marinated in sweet miso, offering a delicate balance of flavors that is both savory and sweet. The fish is perfectly cooked, tender, and has a melt-
in-your-mouth quality that leaves a lasting impression.
Yellowtail Jalapeño: This dish features thinly sliced yellowtail sashimi, accented with a touch of garlic puree and topped with a slice of jalapeño. The combination of fresh fish, subtle garlic flavor, and a hint of heat from the jalapeño creates a refreshing and zesty appetizer.
Rock Shrimp Tempura with Creamy Spicy Sauce: This dish is a crowd favorite, featuring crispy rock shrimp coated in a creamy, spicy sauce that offers a perfect blend of heat and richness. The shrimp are cooked to perfection, with a crisp exterior and tender interior, making it a standout on the menu.
Beef Toban Yaki grilled beef tenderloin with white onions, asparagus, enoki & shiitake mushrooms flamed with sake and deglazed with yuzu soy was delicious. Please note the plate is extremely hot.
BEVERAGE PAIRINGS
NOBU Atlantic City also boasts an impressive beverage program, featuring an extensive selection of sake, wine, and cocktails. The sake list includes a variety of high-quality options, from crisp and dry to rich and sweet, allowing diners to find the perfect pairing for their meal. Additionally, the restaurant offers a curated wine list that includes both international and domestic selections, as well as a range of signature cocktails that reflect the restaurant’s innovative approach to mixology.
SERVICE AND HOSPITALITY
Japanese Cheesecake (will be added this summer): Fluffy light and airy cheesecake with strawberries and strawberry gelée and a shiso gelato.
The service at NOBU Atlantic City is exemplary, reflecting the brand’s commitment to providing a top-notch dining experience. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and passionate about the cuisine, ensuring that each guest feels welcomed and well-cared-for throughout their meal and my server Greg was awesome. The servers are well-versed in the menu and are able to offer insightful recommendations and explanations, enhancing the overall dining experience.
THE NOBU LEGACY
The NOBU brand is synonymous with luxury and culinary excellence, and the Atlantic City location upholds this legacy with distinction. For Style, Comfort On and Off The Course–True Linkswear
By Joe Burkhardt, Publisher
True Links Footwear, operating under the brand name True Linkswear, is a notable player in the golf shoe industry, celebrated for its commitment to comfort, performance, and style. The company was founded in 2009 by brothers Ryan and Jason Moore. Ryan Moore, a professional golfer, brought an insider’s perspective to the development of golf shoes, focusing on enhancing the golfer’s experience on the course.
The inception of True Linkswear was driven by a desire to revolutionize golf footwear, which was traditionally stiff and uncomfortable. The Moore brothers envisioned a shoe that prioritized comfort without sacrificing performance. They introduced their first shoe, the TRUE tour, which was one of the earliest models to adopt a minimalist approach, emphasizing natural foot movement and ground feel. This design philosophy resonated with golfers, leading to a loyal following and setting the stage for subsequent innovations.
True Linkswear’s commitment to quality and innovation is evident in its product lineup, which combines advanced materials with ergonomic designs. Their shoes are designed to be versatile, suitable for both the golf course and everyday wear, reflecting a modern lifestyle approach. This versatility is a key differentiator, making True Linkswear a preferred choice for golfers who value both performance and style.
One of True Linkswear’s standout products is the ALL DAY RIPSTOP V2. This shoe embodies the brand’s ethos of merging functionality with contemporary design.
The ALL DAY RIPSTOP V2 is an evolution of its predecessor, featuring enhancements that cater to the needs of modern golfers. It is crafted from durable ripstop fabric, known for its resistance to tearing and abrasion, ensuring longevity even under demanding conditions.
The ALL DAY RIPSTOP V2 is designed with an emphasis on comfort and practicality. It includes a water-resistant upper, which provides protection in various weather conditions, and a lightweight construction that reduces fatigue during extended periods of wear. The shoe also features a flexible sole that allows for natural foot movement, which is crucial for maintaining balance and stability during a golf swing.
Additionally, the ALL DAY RIPSTOP V2 incorporates a minimalist aesthetic, making it suitable for off-course wear. This versatility aligns with True Linkswear’s mission to create shoes that seamlessly transition from the golf course to everyday life. The V2 model continues to build on the brand’s reputation for creating high-quality, comfortable footwear that appeals to a broad audience.
True Linkswear’s focus on innovation
and customer satisfaction has cemented its place in the golf shoe market. The ALL DAY RIPSTOP V2 is a testament to their ongoing commitment to providing golfers with footwear that enhances performance and comfort, embodying the brand’s dedication to blending tradition with modernity in golf footwear design.
BOYNE Golf
Paying Homage to Donald Ross Continues at The Highlands
Four more revamped holes are now open at the Donald Ross Memorial, part of the Midwest’s largest golf resort destination.
As part of a multi-year transformation project to renovate northern Michigan’s Donald Ross Memorial at The Highlands, four additionally renovated holes are now open at the BOYNE Golf facility built to honor the legendary architect. The one-of-a-kind 18-hole layout is a composite re-creation of classic golf holes from iconic venues that the father of golf course architecture in America designed in the early part of the 20th century. The latest holes to be completed include Hole 2 (No. 4 Plainfield Country Club), Hole 13 (No. 15 Seminole), Hole 15 (No. 11 Aronimink), and Hole 16 (No. 10 Pinehurst No. 2). Five holes have now been renovated to Ross’ original designs, and additional holes are on tap for renovation over the next few years.
Thirty-five years ago, BOYNE Golf’s founder, Everett Kircher, had a vision to create a new and unique golf course at the time that would pay homage to the golden era of classic course architecture and Ross. His vision was to re-create some of Ross’ signature holes from his
top courses east of the Mississippi River. The course features classic renditions from historic venues like Seminole, Pinehurst No. 2, Oakland Hills, Oak Hill, Scioto, Detroit Golf Club, Aronimink, Wannamoisett, Plainfield, and Inverness, to name few.
Today, President and CEO Stephen Kircher of Boyne Resorts continues his father’s vision by curating a pure Donald Ross experience for resort guests.
“When we began this journey in the late 1980s, Dad wanted to create a unique golf experience that no other resort had done before, replicating some of the great designs of famous holes in one compositive golf course,” said Kircher. “Bringing a focus on arguably the most prolific and successful architect of the 20th century was the driving force in the selection of Donald Ross’ works, especially since so many of his best works were not readily available to the general public. This has been very exciting for us and our resort guests, who will now have a more genuine Donald Ross experience.”
effort was required to focus on Ross’ elite private clubs. More than 50 Ross courses were visited and studied to determine the best holes to create.
“The opportunity we now have through technology makes this process so exciting,” explained Friedrich. “We didn’t have iPhones or camera phones back then, so we took pictures of the holes with a Polaroid camera. We now have more access to Ross’ original drawings, Google Earth data (past and present), CAD drawings, and, maybe most importantly, Lidar maps.”
How uncanny is the accuracy? “We were at the PGA Show in Orlando and ran into Jeff Kiddie, the PGA Head Professional at Aronimink,” says Friedrich. “I told him he should come and visit us sometime, as we have a Ross course with renditions of golf holes from around the country. I mentioned we just remodeled our 15th hole, which is their 11th. We showed him a picture of our hole, and he looked at it for a while and then said, ‘Did you get that picture off
of our website’? That is how accurate the construction and attention to detail has been.”
Ross was known for designing some of the most outstanding green complexes in the game at places like Pinehurst No. 2, Oakland Hills, and Seminole, to name a few. This is where BOYNE Golf is excelling.
“The green complexes have always been a priority,” explained Friedrich.
“Today, through the new technology, we can gather photos and dimensions to replicate the green more accurately, creating an authentic Donald Ross experience. We are getting the greens within one inch of their original grades now.”
Next on tap will be the 10th hole, a rendition of No. 14 at Royal Dornoch, where Ross grew up, was the superintendent, and learned the trade under Old Tom Morris. Construction starts in June and will be done by 2025.
“This hole is being completely redone to render one of the greatest holes in the world accurately. Our prior work did not
begin to capture what this version of No. 14 will be…it will be, without a doubt, in my opinion, the finest of all 160 plus holes we have at Boyne Golf,” explained Friedrich.
“These new Donald Ross holes are more stunning to look at and have been met with positive reviews from our resort guests, who are core golfers. Last season, we had more rounds played on the Ross than ever before and much of it was due to the excitement surrounding the new holes we are creating.”
For more information on the Donald Ross Memorial and to learn more about each of the individual holes being worked on, visit https://boynegolf.com/ the-highlands/donald-ross-memorial/ rosscourseupgrades
Kircher and long-time BOYNE executive Bernie Friedrich, the Director of Golf Course Renovations and Development for BOYNE Golf, who is leading the project, were also part of the original selection and execution team during the course’s original development. They enlisted Michigan-based course architect and Donald Ross expert Ray Hearn to oversee it.
“We are thrilled with how these memorable holes have turned out,” said Friedrich. “Our objective with every hole has been to duplicate Ross’s original designs. More accurately following Ross’s original designs, we reshaped the fairways, creating additional angles into the greens and improving shot values. Along with more accurate positioning of bunkers and more exacting green complexes, golfers will experience an even more authentic Donald Ross experience. We cannot wait for the golf community to see the transformation.”

ScanMyGolfBall
Introduces Next Generation Ball Fitting Tool
Innovative mobile app quickly scans and identifies the best golf ball based on a golfer’s swing tendencies.
ScanMyGolfBall announces its new revolutionary mobile app, which is compatible with iOS and Android devices, that can quickly scan and identify the proper golf ball for anyone’s game. Rather than collecting personal shot data about a golfer, the brand-agnostic app collects golf swing information through a series of interactive questions and then matches the golfer to a ball that best fits their game.
“It’s a convenient and easy-to-use ball fitting tool,” says app and company founder Tim Chase, who serves as CEO of SMGB Technologies in Melbourne, Fla. “Based on those questions, the app will recommend the best ball for you, or a series of balls, that are a good fit. You can also scan any golf ball through your phone’s camera, and the app will tell you how well that ball fits you based on the profile you’ve created.”
The ScanMyGolfBall app questions a golfer about swing speed, flight path tendencies, general trajectory, short-game spin, and more. Based on those answers, the app builds a profile and ultimately recommends specific golf ball models. Plus, golfers can scan any ball to see instantly how well that model fits their game.
Like millions of avid golfers, Chase was blindly playing a popular ball from a leading manufacturer for a long time. After reading up on it, he realized it was a misfit for his game. He switched to a softer compression ball and immediately added 20 yards. “I had a slower swing speed and couldn’t generate enough clubhead speed to compress the ball I was playing,” he says. “And that’s what gave me the idea for this app – especially because I was playing in a men’s league and there were older gentlemen out there playing the
forward tees, hitting it 180 yards off the tee, yet also playing a ball that’s better fit for a pro. As I studied this more, I realized most golfers don’t really understand golf balls, the concept of low-spin and high-spin balls, the difference a cover makes, compression, etc. So, I set out to develop this app that makes everything very simple. By using the right ball, most people will get more distance off the tee and more accuracy. The app is a great tool for golfers.”
The ScanMyGolfBall app, which already has a database of more than 500 ball models, both new and old, goes beyond simple identification. It scans and processes ball cover type, layer count, compression, spin rate, feel, and dimple patterns. The app will soon be able to analyze and assess golf ball damage and determine its fit for use through a three-image scanning process.
Chase says his current focus is to continue building the ScanMyGolfBall app user database, which already has thousands of golf ball fitting data, enough to start seeing some exciting trends in the collected data. Currently, the top 5 most scanned manufacturers include 1. Callaway, 2. Titleist, 3. TaylorMade, 4. Srixon, 5. Bridgestone. Furthermore, the top 5 most scanned golf ball models included 1. Titleist ProV1, 2. Callaway Supersoft, 3. Titleist ProV1x, 4. Callaway Chrome Soft, 5. Kirkland Performance +.
“While Titleist has the top scanned ball, Callaway has more varied models of balls being scanned with golfers showing a preference for Callaway’s slower swing speed models as opposed to Titleist’s fast
Year-Round Platform Acclaimed For Growing The Game
swing speed models,” explains Chase. “Meanwhile, Kirkland, with only a single model on the market (the fewest of all the manufacturers represented), still made the Top 5 for most scanned balls alongside top premium balls, a likely indicator that its bargain price is a deciding factor among an increasing number of golfers.”
Chase looks forward to growing the number of app downloads and continuing to match golfers to new golf balls when they are released. “Being able to connect anytime with our fast-growing database and impacting the thousands of golfers in our system who benefit from having a properly fit golf ball is exciting,” he said. “We can send push notifications directly through the app to golfers, letting them know as new ball models become available. From there, we have the technology to create codes that could be directed to golf retailers or even specific brand websites.”
“Yes, there are other services like ours online – but most are not brand-agnostic and free. I consider this to be like a fiduciary of golf balls, in that we’re looking out for the best interest of golfers,” continued Chase. Visit ScanMyGolfBall.com for further details and to download the app.
Women’s Golf Day (WGD) celebrations came to a close last week, but the impact resonates around the globe and the program continues all year long. WGD’s website platform and social media continues to engage and empower women and girls daily and help connect new and existing golfers with golf locations, lessons, league play, family options and community. WGD registered golf facilities that hosted events have an interactive profile page on the WGD website all year long to promote everything the facility has to offer from tee times and women’s events to travel.
“Women’s Golf Day has evolved over the years. The registered locations hosting WGD events celebrate our birthday, but the Women’s Golf Day platform and team runs throughout the year. Our platform is a trusted resource connecting women with facilities, to our partners, a place where they can find ongoing programs and schools, look for places where they get fitted for clubs, go to a professional golf tournament like PGA TOUR, European Tour, Solheim or Open event, book golf and cultural trips and so much more. We have created an environment where women feel comfortable, supported and excited about golf. Women golf daily and so do we – we are more than just a day, more than a week,” comments WGD founder, Elisa Gaudet.
“Women’s Golf Day is a testament to the incredible power of sport to unite and inspire. This day celebrates not just the game of golf, but the community and camaraderie that accompany it. We are inspired by the passion
hundreds of women all over the world who are just like you is a great way of creating a community. The women who played at Lexden arrived quiet and self-conscious, but left bubbling with excitement. One woman came with a golf glove – the only equipment she owned – and the next day she’d bought a set of clubs and was booking into my next session!”
Brands are also benefitting from the year-long conversation they have with WGD participants through social media and direct communication via the VIP Membership and WGD Connect platforms.
and dedication of our PGA Golf Professionals who work tirelessly to advance inclusion in the game,” commented Sandy Cross, Chief People Person, PGA of America.
PGA Members around the world have been using WGD as a platform to encourage more women to play, all year round. One of those is Jennifer MacKinnon, Assistant Professional Earl Grey GC who held her first WGD event 4 years ago and it is now a ‘can’t miss’ calendar event with more than 100 women attending each year.
“Women’s Golf Day is a celebration of the journey from picking up your first club to inspiring the next generation. From my first swing and into my professional career, I’ve seen the power of community and support in this sport. At Earl Grey Golf Club, our growing ladies league, ladies learn to golf program and incredible team of professionals, which includes 3 females, exemplify what it means to foster and empower women in golf. Here’s to every girl, woman, and volunteer who makes this journey possible—Women’s Golf Day isn’t just a day, it’s every day and I look forward to being apart of the growth for years to come.”
Sarah Bennett, former PGA Captain, WGD UK Ambassador and host at Lexden Golf Club also believes that Women’s Golf Day is the perfect opportunity to bring women into the sport and for PGA Members to be part of their journey. She explains, “The key is to create an environment where they all feel comfortable, not isolated and let’s face it seeing
Nick McInally, VP Global Marketing, Callaway Golf commented after this year’s events, “Congratulations to the entire WGD team. The ongoing commitment to getting more women playing the game of golf is one that we passionately share here at Callaway, and we are proud to partner with them on another record-breaking year”.
Locations that are investing time and passion into the women’s game are now reaping the rewards. One fantastic example is Swan Lake Golf Course. 4 years ago the location started hosting WGD with 10 women. They didn’t even have enough women to set up a league. Fast forward to 2024 and they have built their membership to carry 2 leagues and had to run 2 WGD days for them! WGD 2025 is the tenth anniversary and will take place from May 27 – June 3. Locations registering today will benefit from year-round access to the website where they can promote and market all of their tee times, pro shop activities, travel and internal events to a highly engaged women’s audience. Jacksonville-Based Power Tee Still Innovating the Driving Range Experience After 28 Years
As Power Tee celebrates its 28th anniversary, the world’s best performing automatic teeing system based in Jacksonville, Florida, continues to make serious impact with revenue-driving technology for driving ranges, country clubs and indoor golf environments.
In nearly three decades in business, the numbers continue to stagger.
Power Tee has clients based in 22 different states, including at 14 different facilities in Florida. It’s now in its 20th year with St. Andrews. Power Tee has been at the famed Belfry in England for 19 years. Celtic Manor, host of the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales, remains a strong advocate for the brand’s technology at its state-of-the-art golf academy. There is a Power Tee presence at 80 percent of the more serious practice facilities in the United Kingdom. Power Tee can now be found
at several driving ranges in Japan and the entertainment focused Rippit Golf Facility in New South Wales recently became the first property in Australia to install Power Tee.
Power Tee is offered to golf facilities on a monthly rental, removing the requirement for up front capital investment. The renewal rate for facilities keeping the technology at the end of a rental period remains over 90 percent, with a number of ranges who removed Power Tee at the end of their lease during the recession quickly realizing they miss the additional revenue and subsequently reinstalling.
“If you feel like you’ve made a bad decision, you’re not going to repeat it,” said Power Tee founder and CEO, Martin Wyeth. “Once operators experience having a tee line that isn’t chewed to bits by noon and looks beautiful all day while providing golfers
don’t degrade over the course of the day like they do at natural grass ranges.”
Indeed, the benefits are plentiful.
Having Power Tee solves most agronomic and aesthetic issues related to golfers hitting off butchered grass and uneven playing surfaces, something the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan were steadfastly against, very frequently choosing to practice off of tees. Power Tee elevates the hitting and game improvement experience. Data shows that golfers purchase more food and beverage when using the mats; hitting off a Power Tee reduces the risk of injuries and lessens the jarring of joints; the golfer is able to hit more balls during a session because of the automatic teeing option, which in return means that the facility can earn more money.
Research has shown that golfers are happy to pay a minimum of 1 penny extra per ball hit using Power Tee, with many operators yielding up to 5 cents per ball more. To have Power Tee on your driving range means more activity, a more polished look throughout the day and more revenue during parts of the day when most ranges see a dip in usage.
“The mats we use on every Power Tee are phenomenal,” Wyeth said. “You can hit thousands of balls off them without any attrition. Under our lease model, those mats get replaced regularly so you never have an awful surface to hit off.”
getting younger, more diverse, more women and they really enjoy what Power Tee brings to the range experience,” says Tee It Up Owner Nick Franze. “People hit balls 30 to 60 percent faster with Power Tee and they enjoy the process of having the balls teed up automatically. Paired with Toptracer, Power Tee gives our customers immediate feedback on every shot, which they love. They get hooked on the process of instant gratification and we enjoy having better, happier customers.”
In their own hometown, Blue Sky Golf Club and Fleming Island Golf Club, two of the premier public golf courses in the Greater Jacksonville area, have had great success with Power Tee. Blue Sky is managed by Hampton Golf, which is run by former PGA of America president M.G. Orender and Fleming Island is run by former tour player, Charles Raulerson.
Wyeth has built a custom indoor practice area for Max and the family at their home with a simulator and screen. If Max wants to hit shots outside, he’ll often head to the aforementioned Blue Sky or Fleming Island, both of which are within a 20-minute drive.
perfect lie conditions on every shot, they know they have a keeper. Add to that the Power Tee users hit more balls, practice more regularly and get into their hitting groove more easily. More balls in the air per hour allows the facility to earn more revenue from each range station.”
The golf practice experience has been redefined over the past decade and Power Tee has been a vital solution to that evolution.
“Driving ranges have changed conceptually in recent years with gamified technology that displays the golfers’ shot data (from launch monitor technology) on a video screen and Power Tee is a vital component of that funpaced hitting experience because it makes everything seamless,” Wyeth adds. “With Power Tee you can have your range open and available to customers from sun-up and into the night if you want because the conditions
While there are many success stories throughout the United States, some of the biggest remain closest to home. Renowned instructor Rick Smith – who has worked with Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, David Duval and Greg Norman, among others – is a big proponent of the brand and uses it at his Golf Performance Center at Trump Doral in Miami. Tee It Up Driving Range outside Orlando has 26 machines at its facility, starting initially with just 10 Power Tees and adding more each year as they saw their business grow, and has seen its business flourish postCOVID.
Power Tee has completed its first municipal installation in Maryland where the city is bringing all of the practice and ADA benefits to Easton.
“The driving range today is more about fun and people coming out in groups to enjoy hitting balls socially in a gamified, responseoriented fashion. You still see serious grinders coming out to get better, but the social aspect has been a game changer with the clientele
“We’ve had about a 20 percent increase in participation since we put in the Power Tee system. We now have more families and parties really enjoying the ease of having the Toptracer and Power Tee working together. It’s been a great success for Fleming Island,” said Fleming Island Golf Club Owner Charles Raulerson. “We have so many repeat customers as a result of putting in Power Tee that we changed our pricing, and this has been highly successful. I think any range owner that has an opportunity to discuss putting in Power Tee, it would be well worth their while to put it in because it brings repeat customers.”
One of Wyeth’s biggest advocates lives underneath his own roof at his Ponte Vedra Beach home. Son Max, a 14-year-old standout who is in middle school, rarely hits off grass while practicing and has found that using the Power Tee has really allowed him to practice more efficiently. At 14 years old, Max shot his first even par 9 in competition and regularly drives the ball 300 yards.
“He’s winning a vast majority of the competitions he’s involved in,” Wyeth said.
“Everything is perfect every time you swing the club, your confidence grows really quickly as you practice and that leads to you practicing at your maximum tempo.”
There is still much work left to be done for the innovative brand. Flush with 35 fulltime employees, they continue to search for top talent and are aggressively looking to hire sales and marketing associates willing to roll up their respective sleeves and help continue to grow the company. While Power Tee is currently available for home use, they are developing a better machine for indoors that will work for anybody who has the available space. And getting Power Tee into higher end country clubs continues to be a major area of focus.
“I absolutely guarantee you if install Power Tee into more top clubs, the ranges would be packed until sundown,” Wyeth said.
“The reality is that grass will improve with rest and there is so much more member value with Power Tee because it is a better looking and much more useful practice area experience.”
Instead of having to choose between chewed up grass that forces the golfer to chop down on the ball and rock-hard mats that damage wrists and elbows and deter the golfer from hitting down on the ball, members will get a great and productive practice experience while preserving the grass for the next day’s play.
The cost of Power Tee at a typical club is less than $5 per month per member, which includes all service and regular mat replacements. “If members saw how much more useful their ranges are with Power Tee, they’d wonder why they didn’t have it sooner,” Wyeth said. - Jay Coffin, author

The Epson Tour Returns to Sweetgrass for 13th Year Island Resort Championship to be played at Sweetgrass from June 21-23
The excitement is building as the Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass approaches, set to take place from June 21-23, 2024. Hosted by Island Resort & Casino, this highly anticipated event has solidified its reputation as one of the premier professional golf tournaments in the upper Midwest, drawing 144 professional women golfers to compete at the renowned Sweetgrass Golf Club.
As part of the Epson Tour - known as the “Road to the LPGA,” this tournament serves as a pivotal stage for players aspiring to join the ranks of the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour, promising thrilling competition and showcasing the talent of top female golfers. These athletes will be competing for prize money totaling $225,000 at the event, now in its 13th year.
“It’s the perfect opportunity to see up-and-coming pro golfers with the potential to be on the LPGA tour in the next few years,” said Tony Mancilla,
General Manager of Island Resort & Casino and Tournament Director. “Over the past decade, the Epson Tour has grown substantially, and we are excited to be a part of it. The athletes’ abilities have improved and today the tour offers bigger purses. Not to mention the higher quality venues participating in the tour,” Mancilla added.
The winner of the Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass will take home a trophy, a tribal honor quilt handmade by an elder of the Hannahville Indian Community, and a check for $33,750. In 2023, the winner was Tsai Ching Tseng (Tainan City, Chinese Taipei). The Island Resort Championship was her first career win, in the same year she turned professional. Tseng hopes to defend her title this year but knows how she prepares is key.
“Definitely mentally. I think because I know there’s great players out here, so to be able to beat them just means a lot,” said Tseng. “I remember so many people were out there and cheering for us. I can’t wait to be back.”
The Epson Tour is the Official Qualifying Tour of the LPGA, where players earn LPGA Tour Membership through the Epson Tour’s Race for the
Card. From 1999-2002, LPGA Tour cards were awarded to the top 3 individuals on the season’s money list. Beginning in 2024, 15 LPGA cards will be distributed to top points earners over the 20-event season. Each regular season event offers the winner 500 points, and the Epson Tour Championship in Indian Wells, CA offers 650 points as the season finale.
Since the inaugural year, 192 players have graduated from the Epson Tour and advanced to the LPGA Tour. Mancilla noted that most of the Island Resort Championship winners have gone on to earn their LPGA card.
Fans are encouraged to bring a chair or utilize the bleachers by the nine and eighteen greens, as well as at the center of the course. They are also welcome to follow golfers as they play their rounds and can get autographs and photos taken with golfers at the end of their rounds. Food and beverages are available on the course, and food costs just $3. Tickets to the June tournament are $10 for adults and free for 17 and under with an adult. Tickets are on-sale now at local non-profits, with proceeds going to the charities that sell them. A list of participating organizations can be found online at www.IslandResortGolf.com
