ustin Peay State University is a comprehensive, state-assisted university with a distinguished tradition in liberal and professional education. The institution is named in honor of Austin Peay, Tennessee’s governor from 1924 until 1927, the year APSU was founded. The university is located in Clarksville, Tenn., just 45 minutes northwest of Tennessee’s capital, Nashville, on Interstate 24. One of the South’s most historic cities, Clarksville also is Tennessee’s third-fastest growing city behind only Memphis and Nashville. Situated on gently rolling terrain near picturesque downtown Clarksville, Austin Peay’s main campus consists of 68 buildings on 169 acres. The classical Georgian architecture of the Austin Peay campus is combined with newer buildings. This blend provides a link with the past while reflecting the academic excellence and dignity of an institution of higher learning. The newest building additions to the main campus are the Hemlock Semiconductor Building, Foy Fitness and Recreation Center, Sundquist Science Complex and the Morgan University Center, each opening for use since 2001. The Hemlock Semiconductor Building houses the chemical engineering technology (CET) associate degree program and laboratory. The $11-million Foy Center, features a rock-climbing wall and 10,000 square feet of fitness space and other amenities for the student body. The Sundquist Complex is one of the South’s premier science education facilities and represents the largest capital appropriation ever in Tennessee for a single classroom building. The new Morgan University Center is located in the heart of the campus and features a cybercafe, meeting rooms, a food court, coffee shop, ballroom and lounges for Austin Peay students. Austin Peay’s campus has been the site of seven educational institutions since 1806. The campus was occupied by Southwestern for 50 years until 1925 when the school moved to Memphis. Austin Peay was founded two years later as a two-year normal school to train teachers for the region. Austin Peay has grown over the years to take its place among the finest mid-sized four-year universities in the nation. Austin Peay Normal School became a four-year college in 1941-42, and university status was conferred Sept. 1, 1967. Austin Peay State University currently enrolls more than 10,000 students from every region of Tennessee, most of the 50 states and several foreign countries. Austin Peay offers more than 50 majors in associate, bachelor’s, master’s and education specialist’s degrees with additional areas of concentration. Courses are offered in arts and sciences, business, education, engineering technology, nursing and human services. Graduate studies also are offered in several areas. In addition, numerous online courses are offered each semester. A state leader in public service, Austin Peay State University has more than 750 employees. Engaged in the most modern teaching techniques and research are nearly 280 full-time faculty members, 90 percent of whom hold the earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degrees in their disciplines.

KELLEY GUTH

LADY GOVS SOCCER Head Coach 8th Season Florida State, 1996

Following an injury-plagued season, Lady Govs head coach Kelley Guth is looking to build with the program’s most experienced roster ever, including eight returning starters with seven newcomers. The right combination of youth and leadership will be necessary for Guth to lead Austin Peay on a run through the Ohio Valley Conference. In back-to-back seasons, Austin Peay edged its way into postseason play only to be a victim of first-round ousters. Guth will be challenged with developing a stable of strong-footed forwards to compliment a well-played defense. As the only head coach in Lady Govs history, Guth’s continues to translate her pedigree as a player into the coaching ranks. Guth began her collegiate soccer career at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C., where she led her squad as a two-time NAIA first-team All-America selection and twice selected conference player of the year. In 1993, her first season with the Clan, Guth was an NAIA All-America honorable mention. She improved that her second season as the Clan claimed a conference championship and she collected first-team All-America honors. In 1995, she again received first-team All-America honors, while Simon Fraser placed fifth in the NAIA national tournament. In 1996, she transferred for one season at Florida State University and left her mark in those record books as well. In one season, Guth scored 14 goals, including six game-winners that stand first all-time at FSU. Her 29 points and 56 shots on goal are single-season records as well. Her coaching career began at Florida State University High School in 1997, where she coached for three seasons. While coaching at FSU High School, she also played in the W-League, a national amateur league, for the Fort Collins Force. With the Force, Guth received all-tournament honors as well as player of the week honors twice, as the Force took home the 1998 W-League championship. Guth also played for the Florida State women’s club team and was named women’s open division MVP of the National IntramuralRecreation Sports Association. Guth received her initial Division I soccer coaching opportunity with Ohio Valley Conference member Southeast Missouri under her former FSU head coach Heather Nelson. As an assistant coach in 2000 and 2001, Guth was in charge of recruiting, academic oversight of student-athletes as well as overseeing all travel arrangements while assisting in practice with all positions on the field. Guth’s inaugural season with the Lady Govs was indeed a challenge, finishing 0-13-3; the team scoring only nine goals. However, the Lady Govs steadily improved during their second

6

season, posting five wins and 25 goals. In 2004, the Lady Govs continued to mature on the field under Guth’s guidance. After a rough start, they finished strong with a conference victory at Murray State. The Lady Govs posted the program’s best record yet, 8-9-2 overall and 1-6-1 in the league, scoring 29 goals. In 2006, the Lady Govs went 5-4 in league play, before hitting a two-year OVC slump. The 2008 season, in fact, saw the Lady Govs drop eight one-goal matches, a stat that will be under Guth’s microscope for 2009. Her accomplishments as a player and coach continued to be recognized as she was inducted into the Delta (British Columbia) Sports Hall of Fame, in June 2004. Guth was one of 10 inductees into the inaugural class, selected from a group of 60. In March 2009, Guth was appointed as the OVC’s representative for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Guth, who also assists the Clarksville Royals Futbol Club in their player development program, currently resides in Clarksville with her husband Matt, who works as a correctional officer for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department in Nashville.

JEREMY SULLIVAN

Assistant Coach 3rd Season Jacksonville State, 2003 Jeremy Sullivan joined the Lady Govs program in the fall of 2007 as the goalkeepers coach and recruiting coordinator. He has been instrumental in compiling one of the program’s best-ever recruting classes for the 2010 season. Sullivan came to Austin Peay after two years as a graduate assistant at Belmont where earned his master’s of education while serving as the Bruins goalkeepers coach. The Alabama native played college soccer at Wallace State Community College, in Hanceville, Ala., where he led the Lions to a 15th National Ranking in his final season. He then transferred to Jacksonville State where he completed his degree in recreation administration. As an undergrad, Sullivan worked three seasons as a student assistant. In that time, Sullivan also worked at Donoho School as the head coach. While at Belmont, Sullivan also was the head coach of the Brentwood Eclipse U13. He holds his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and a USSF Class D license. Sullivan lives in Clarksville with his wife, Jessica, and their daughter Lyla, age 1.
