AUSTIN PEAY WOMEN'S SOCCER 2013

Morgan Brothers Soccer Field opened in 2005, providing Austin Peay arguably the best soccer pitch in the Ohio Valley Conference. The field once served as a practice for Austin Peay football and came about because of the generosity of the Morgan Brothers Construction, who provided the excavation and field preparation for the facility’s construction. How good is the Lady Govs field? The Tennessee Titans chose Austin Peay and the Morgan Brothers Soccer Field to serve as its summer training camp home in 2006—the only time the Titans have trained outside of Nashville since arriving in the Music City. APSU began playing soccer in 2002 and for the first three seasons the Lady Govs played its home matches at Heritage Park, a citymaintained facility. But as the program matured, an on-campus field became a necessity and with the help of the Morgan Brothers, that dream was realized. The Lady Govs first victory at Morgan Bros. Soccer Field came on Sep. 23, 2005 against rival Murray State. Erica Dengler scored 27 seconds into the match and added a late goal for a 3-1 APSU victory. In 2006, the Lady Govs lost only once at home. In fact, Austin Peay was better than .500 in each of their first three seasons in which they called Morgan Bros. Field home. The 2010 squad posted the program’s best-ever home record, going 8-1-0 on the home pitch. Tatiana Ariza scored six of her 11 goals in Clarksville and Austin Peay allowed just one goal at home, with Carley Newman earning five shut outs.

ustin Peay State University is a comprehensive, state-assisted university with a distinguished tradition in liberal and professional education. The institution is named in honor of Austin Peay, Tennessee’s governor from 1924 until 1927, the year the university was founded. The university is located in Clarksville, Tenn., just 45 minutes northwest of Tennessee’s capital, Nashville, on Interstate 24. One of the South’s most historic cities, Clarksville also is Tennessee’s fastest growing city. Situated on gently rolling terrain near picturesque downtown Clarksville, Austin Peay’s main campus consists of 68 buildings on 169 acres. The classical Georgian architecture of the Austin Peay campus is combined with newer buildings. This blend provides a link with the past while reflecting the academic excellence and dignity of an institution of higher learning. The newest building additions to the main campus are the Hemlock Semiconductor Building, Foy Fitness and Recreation Center, Sundquist Science Complex and the Morgan University Center, each opening for use since 2001. The Hemlock Semiconductor Building houses the chemical engineering technology (CET) associate degree program and laboratory. The $11-million Foy Center, features a rockclimbing wall and 10,000 square feet of fitness space and other amenities for the student body. The Sundquist Complex is one of the South’s premier science education facilities and represents the largest capital appropriation ever in Tennessee for a single classroom building. The new Morgan University Center is located in the heart of the campus and features a cybercafe, meeting rooms, a food court, coffee shop, ballroom and lounges for Austin Peay students. Austin Peay’s campus has been the site of seven educational institutions since 1806. The campus was occupied by Southwestern for 50 years until 1925 when the school moved to Memphis. Austin Peay was founded two years later as a twoyear normal school to train teachers for the region. Austin Peay has grown over the years to take its place among the finest mid-sized four-year universities in the nation. Austin Peay Normal School became a four-year college in 1941-42, and university status was conferred Sept. 1, 1967. Austin Peay State University currently enrolls more than 10,000 students from every region of Tennessee, most of the 50 states and several foreign countries. Austin Peay offers more than 50 majors in associate, bachelor’s, master’s and education specialist’s degrees with additional areas of concentration. Courses are offered in arts and sciences, business, education, engineering technology, nursing and human services. Graduate studies also are offered in several areas. In addition, numerous online courses are offered each semester. A state leader in public service, Austin Peay State University has more than 750 employees. AUSTIN PEAY WOMEN'S SOCCER 2013 2013 Lady Govs Prospectus Strong Senior Class A school-record eight seniors return for head coach Kelley Guth’s squad in 2013. Two sets of twins (Tatiana and Natalia Ariza and Andy and Joceline Quiceno) will take the field alongside Emily Kink, Corey Osborn, Haylee Shoaff and Morgan Zigelsky. This will go down as the most accomplished senior class in program history. In addition to leading the Lady Govs to the programs first two OVC Tournament Championship match appearances, these ladies provided Austin Peay’s first-ever Olympians (N. Ariza and T. Ariza), the first OVC Offensive Player of the Year honor (T. Ariza, 2012), the first NSCAA All-Region honors (N. Ariza and T. Ariza, 2010), eight All-OVC honors and four All-OVC Tournament honors. Since seven of these Lady Govs came to Clarksville in 2010 (Zigelsky joined in 2011 after sitting out a year following her transfer from Ole Miss), Austin Peay has enjoyed unprecedented success. The Lady Govs are 37-22-3 overall, the best three-year stretch in program history. The Forwards: Tatiana and Andy lead the way up front Despite losing Emily Perkins - who finished her Austin Peay career ranked fifth all-time in goals scored despite playing just two years for the Lady Govs - Austin Peay will have no shortage of offensive firepower in 2013. Leading the way for the forwards will be reigning OVC Offensive Player of the Year Tatiana Ariza, who is already Austin Peay’s all-time leader in points (98), goals (39) and assists (20). The Colombian-bred Ariza looks to become the OVC’s first 100-point scorer since 2003 and just the fourth in conference history. Andy Quiceno will help ease the scoring load. Quiceno has been an integral part of the offense in her own right, ranking third in school history in points scored with 35. She scored a career-high six goals in 2012, including a hat trick against Eastern Illinois. Gina Fabbro will have the first chance at replacing Perkins. The Canadian-born Fabbro joined the Lady Govs during the spring season and quickly established herself as a presence along the front line. Frankie Carbajal, who gave valuable minutes in a reserve role during the 2012 campaign, will be leaned on more heavily in 2013. A pair of freshmen with considerable potential join the roster in 2013. Megan Sanchez and Merritt Monger will battle the incumbents for playing time and push them during practice. Sanchez, a Californian with ties to the Mexican National Team’s program, was second-team all-conference as a senior at Central High School. Monger, whose father played football for the Govs in the early 1980s and whose mother was a cheerleader, scored 26 goals en route to All-State honors for Oak Ridge High School last season.

The Midfield: Veterans buoyed by talented newcomers All-OVC first-team selection Natalia Ariza, flanked by fellow seniors Morgan Zigelsky and Joceline Quiceno, return to anchor the Lady Govs midfield, but will be pushed by a bevy of talented newcomers. Ariza repeated as an All-OVC First-Team performer in 2012. After returning from a stint with the Colombian Olympic Team in London, Ariza assumed a more defensive role for the 2012 Lady Govs. While limited to three assists on the year, Ariza netted All-OVC and All-Tournament honors. Entering her third year in Clarksville following a transfer from Ole Miss, Zigelsky is poised for a huge year. The Franklin native collected three goals and four assists last season, leading the Lady Govs with 1852 minutes played. Quiceno was instrumental on offensive side of the ball for the Lady Govs in 2012, leading the midfielders with five goals scored. None was bigger than her 85th-minute goal against SIU Edwardsville in the OVC Tournament semifinals, which broke a scoreless tie and proved to be the game-winner that pushed Austin Peay into the tournament final. A plethora of young midfielders are set to join Austin Peay in 2013. Chief among them will be Courtney Sheppard, a transfer from Langara College in Canada who earned Pac West Rookie of the Year honors. Four locals also look to make their mark in the midfield rotation - Emily Anderson (Murfreesboro), Brianna Avitabile (Hixson), Mary Ruth Locastro (Memphis) and Natalie Smith (Soddy Daisy) will push the returning athletes for playing time. The Defense: Stingy backline eases burden on Shoaff The Lady Govs held opponents to just 20 goals scored in 2012, including seven shutouts. With four returners who saw significant action along the backline and keeper Haylee Shoaff back in net, Austin Peay’s defense shouldn’t miss a beat in 2013. Shoaff caught fire during conference play, shutting out six OVC opponents during the regular season and SIUE in the OVC Tournament semifinals. She tallied 103 saves and enters 2013 needing five shutouts for the APSU career mark. A pair of seniors will anchor the backline. Corey Osborn returns after a knee injury robbed her of the season’s final five matches in 2013, while Emily Kink looks to bounce back after missing the first six games of last year to play a full schedule. Junior Taylor Van Wagner started all 21 games last season, averaging 80 minutes per contest, totaling 1637 minutes. Another junior, Claire Pultz, moved back after injuries hit the squad last season and made 11 starts. Both will be counted on for big minutes in 2013. Junior Bianca Melito will also be in the mix for minutes, as will Shelby Olszewski, who joined the squad after two years with the Lady Govs basketball team. A pair of freshman, Kate Siddall and Heather Murphy, will battle for minutes and look to learn from the upperclassmen. Nikki Filippone, who returns from a season-ending foot injury, and Katie Emig will push Shoaff in net.

AUSTIN PEAY WOMEN'S SOCCER 2013 The Ohio Valley Conference Now in its 65th year, the Ohio Valley Conferencecontinues to build on the success that hasmade it the nation’s eighth-oldest NCAA Division I conference. In May 2011 the Conference expanded for the second time in four years, adding Belmont University which begins competition in the 2012-13 academic year. The addition of Belmont gives the OVC 12 members, the most the league has had at one time in its illustrious history. The move added a second team in the city of Nashville and was the first addition to the league since Southern Illinois University Edwardsville joined in 2008. The 2009-10 school year saw a change in leadership as Beth DeBauche was named the seventh full-time Commissioner in league history on July 28, 2009. She is currently one of just five females to be the head of a Division I conference, and one of just eight to lead a Division I conference all-time. The last three commissioners of the OVC have moved onto jobs as the commissioner of the Big Ten, Big 12 and the Mid-American Conferences. The OVC’s proud history dates back to 1948, but seeds for the new league were actually planted in 1941. It was then that Roy Stewart, the athletics director at Murray State, Charles “Turkey” Hughes, the athletics director at Eastern Kentucky, and Kelly Thompson, the public relations director at Western Kentucky, first broached the idea of forming a new conference. Discussions were put on hold by World War II, but reemerged Feb. 27-28, 1948 at the Kentucky Hotel in Louisville as the three original institutions combined with Morehead State, Louisville and Evansville to form the OVC. In the 1950s, the OVC became a pioneer on a much more significant scale socially. During times of racial segregation, league member Morehead State became one of the first non-traditionally black mid-southern institutions to accept a black student. In 1958, Marshall Banks earned athletically-related aid at Morehead, which signed a second black athlete, Howard Murphy, a year later. In 1961, Murphy earned all-conference recognition as a halfback in football. With racial barriers broken, the rest of the institutions in the league began to provide educational and athletic opportunities to African-Americans. The playing field is not the only place where OVC athletes are working hard. The league also recognizes excellence in the classroom. Six Scholar-Athlete Awards are presented yearly to male and female athletes, while others are commended for their academic success by being Medal of Honor recipients or

12

earning a spot on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Additionally, the league annually presents one institutional Academic Achievement Award, as well as separate team awards in each Conference-sponsored sport. Since the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America program began, the Ohio Valley Conference has had 215 student-athletes honored with the award, including 36 over the last four years (2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13). Additionally, the OVC annually presents the Steve Hamilton Sportsmanship Award, in honor of the former Morehead State studentathlete, coach and athletics director, to a junior or senior student-athlete with significant athletic contributions who best exemplifies the characteristics of sportsmanship and citizenship. Most recently, the Conference has also implemented the OVC Institutional and Team Sportsmanship Awards, which are presented to one institution and 18 sportspecific teams voted by their peers to have best exhibited the standards of sportsmanship and ethical conduct as outlined by the OVC and NCAA. The vision of leadership demonstrated by the Founding Fathers in 1948 remains alive today as the Ohio Valley Conference prepares for the future. One example is in regard to the current trend in collegiate athletics administration for increased involvement of university presidents in setting policies and making rules. The presidents of OVC institutions, however, have always governed the Conference, long before presidential governance became a national theme. The Ohio Valley Conference sponsors the following sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis and track for men, and basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and volleyball for women. In addition, the OVC also sponsors the combined men’s and women’s sport of rifle. Now in its seventh decade of competition, the Ohio Valley Conference has grown significantly from its humble beginnings while increasing the number of athletics opportunities it provides for students. Current league representatives include charter members Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University and Murray State University, along with Austin Peay State University, Belmont University, Eastern Illinois University, Jacksonville State University, Southeast Missouri State University, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Tennessee State University, Tennessee Technological University and the

University of Tennessee at Martin. After Title IX legislation passed in 1972, women’s athletics began a rebirth on the national scene as the NCAA began sponsoring and marketing women’s sports. Recognizing the need to provide increased opportunities for female athletes, the OVC began formulating plans for women’s athletics in 1975 and established women’s championships in the sports of basketball, tennis and track in 1977, with cross country and volleyball added over the next four years. Those sports were initially governed by the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW), but the overall strength of women’s programs in the league was demonstrated by the automatic bids the OVC instantly received when the NCAA became the governing body in 1982. The conference added women’s golf and softball in 1994 and women’s soccer in 1998. In 2007 the Conference had two teams in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament for the first time in league history, as former OVC member Samford earned an at-large selection while Southeast Missouri was the Conference’s automatic bid.

AUSTIN PEAY WOMEN'S SOCCER 2013 KELLEY GUTH Head Coach 12th Season Florida State, 1996

Entering her 12th season, Kelley Guth remains the only head coach in Austin Peay women’s soccer history. The 2012 season was highlighted by Austin Peay’s second OVC Championship match appearance in three seasons. Tatiana Ariza won Austin Peay’s first OVC Player of the Year honor, and the Lady Govs finished second in league play. That helped erase the eighth-place finish Austin Peay earned during an injury-plagued 2011 campaign. Guth’s 2010 team was sparked by OVC Freshman of the Year Tatiana Ariza, along with first-team pick Natalia Ariza and second-team All-OVC selection Joceline Quiceno. Those three freshman, along with a nationally-ranked defense, set the tone for undoubtedly the most successful Lady Govs soccer team in program history. After appearing in the OVC tournament twice previously, the 2010 season was a breath of fresh air for Guth. Her pedigree on the pitch as both a player and coach has always been above reproach, which is why her team’s recent success was so important to the program after winning only one game during an injury-plagued 2009 season. Her coaching career began at Florida State University High School in 1997, where she coached for three seasons. While coaching at FSU High School, she also played in the W-League, a national amateur league, for the Fort Collins Force. With the Force, Guth received all-tournament honors as well as player of the week honors twice, as the Force took home the 1998 W-League championship. Guth also played for the Florida State women’s club team and was named women’s open division MVP of the National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association. Guth received her initial Division I soccer coaching opportunity with Ohio Valley Conference member Southeast Missouri under her former FSU head coach Heather Nelson. As an assistant coach in 2000 and 2001, Guth was in charge of recruiting, academic oversight of

student-athletes as well as overseeing all travel arrangements while assisting in practice with all positions on the field. Guth’s inaugural season with the Lady Govs was indeed a challenge, finishing 0-13-3; the team scored only nine goals. However, the Lady Govs steadily improved during their second season, posting five wins and 25 goals. In 2004, the Lady Govs continued to mature on the field under Guth’s guidance. After a rough start, they finished strong with a conference victory at Murray State. The Lady Govs posted the program’s best record yet, 8-9-2 overall and 1-6-1 in the league, scoring 29 goals. Two years later, in 2006, the Lady Govs went 5-4 in league play, before hitting a two-year OVC slump. The 2008 season was particularly frustrating as the Lady Govs drop eight one-goal matches. In 2009, the Lady Govs were challenged with overcoming a number of injuries and that was no different for the 2010 slate. In fact, during the 2010 OVC championship game, Guth was relegated to only one substitute for the final match after Joceline Quiceno suffered a knee injury early the final contest. Guth began her collegiate soccer career at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C., where she led her squad as a twotime NAIA first-team All-America selection and twice selected conference player of the year. In 1993, her first season with the Clan, Guth was an NAIA All-America honorable mention. She improved her second season as the Clan claimed a conference championship and she collected first-team All-America honors. In 1995, she again received first-team All-America honors, while Simon Fraser placed fifth in the NAIA national tournament. In 1996, she transferred for one season at Florida State University and left her mark in those record books as well. In one season, Guth scored 14 goals, including six game-winners which are third-most all-time at FSU. Her accomplishments as a player and coach continued to be recognized as she was inducted into the Delta (British Columbia) Sports Hall of Fame, in June 2004. Guth was one of 10 inductees into the inaugural class, selected from a group of 60. In March 2009, Guth was appointed as the OVC’s representative for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Guth, who also assists the Clarksville Royals Futbol Club in their player development program, currently resides in Clarksville with her husband Matt, who works as a correctional officer for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department in Nashville.

JAKE WYMAN

Jeremy Sullivan is in his seventh season as the Lady Govs goalkeepers coach and recruiting coordinator. His work on and off the field during the 2010 season led to his being named the Midwest Region College Assistant Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association. Sullivan has been instrumental in Austin Peay’s success since joining the staff in 2007. During the Lady Govs run to the 2010 OVC Championship match, Austin Peay keepers led the league in goals-against average (.687), shuout percentage (.591, which was eighth-best nationally) and save percentage. Under Sullivan’s tutelage in 2012, Haylee Shoaff earned Austin Peay’s first all-conference award by a goalkeeper since 2005.

Jake Wyman joined the Lady Govs during the summer as a volunteer assistant for the 2011 season. Wyman brings more than three years as a goalkeeper coach at Division II Lander University as well as two years as head coach at Emerald High School, in Greenwood, S.C. While at Emerald, Wyman’s team’s advanced to state tournament twice, finishing seventh in 2010 and earning a fifth-place finish in 2011. The Vikings also won a pair of region championships and Wyman was named the region’s 2011 Coach of the Year. That success led to him being named the women’s assistant coach at Lander. Wyman’s focus was aimed at goalkeepers and maintaining the team’s strength and conditioning regiment. In three years, the Bearcats posted 23 shutouts, while allowing 54 goals for a 1.13 goals-against-average. Wyman, a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, holds a United States Soccer Federation Class C License. 2012 Season In Review Lady Govs picked eighth in preseason poll After a wave of injuries caused them to stumble down the stretch and miss the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament last season, Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team has been picked eighth in the OVC’s 2012 preseason soccer poll, the conference office announced Wednesday. Defending conference champion UT Martin (190 points; 13 first-place votes) was picked to repeat, barely edging out Southeast Missouri (190; 9). Morehead State, the 2009 and 2010 conference champion, was picked third (143), while Eastern Kentucky is slated fourth (130). Conference newcomer Belmont and Murray State tied for fifth with 122 points apiece. SIU Edwardsville ranked just ahead of the Lady Govs in seventh with 98 points, while Eastern Illinois (65 points), Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech

(33 points apiece) rounded out the poll. Lady Govs drop opener at Arkansas A late goal deprived Austin Peay of its first-ever decision against Arkansas. The Lady Govs fell to the Razorbacks 2-1 in the 2012 regular-season opener. Arkansas (1-0-0) assaulted the net in the early going. The Razorbacks attempted 11 shots, putting eight on net in the opening 45 minutes. The Lady Govs (0-1-0) had fewer chances in the first half, but were able to find holes in the Arkansas defense. In the 32nd minute, senior Sara Kluttz unleashed a shot that beat Arkansas net minder Kelly Roliard but hit the post and bounced away, keeping the Lady Govs off the board. The Razorbacks would break the scoreless tie in the 36th

AUSTIN PEAY WOMEN'S SOCCER 2013 minute. Ashleigh Ellenwood got behind the Lady Govs backline on a breakaway and beat Shoaff low and to the right to give Arkansas a 1-0 lead late in the first half. That would be the only blemish in a busy first half for Shoaff, who made seven saves in the opening period. The Lady Govs would get the equalizer late in the first half. Junior Andy Quiceno was dragged down in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for Austin Peay. Junior Morgan Zigelsky put the kick away for the Lady Govs, tying the match up going into the break. The Razorbacks kept the pressure up on the Lady Govs defense, and finally broke through in the 82nd minute. A poor clear attempt by Austin Peay allowed Phyllis George to put a shot past Shoaff for the game-winner. Shoaff faced 20 shots, including 12 on goal, and made 10 saves in the season opener. Seven Razorbacks took more than one shot, with Lindsey Mayo attempting four and putting two on net. Austin Peay rolls to 3-1 win at UALR Austin Peay picked up its first win of 2012 on the road against UALR. The Lady Govs scored three unanswered goals to knock off the Trojans 3-1. The host Trojans (0-2-0) jumped out to an early lead in the first half. Shoaff saved an Alyson Rohane shot, but Ariel Galletti collected the rebound and put it in the back of the net for the Trojans first goal in 2012. The Lady Govs answered in the 24th minute on an unassisted goal from sophomore Taylor Van Wagner. The goal was the first in Van Wagner’s Lady Govs career. The goal came on a collected rebound from an Austin Peay corner kick. Austin Peay surged ahead in the second half thanks to Andy Quiceno. She broke away from the defense and beat the keeper to the bottom left for a goal less than two minutes into the period that put the Lady Govs ahead for the first time in 2012. Senior Emily Perkins picked up her season’s first goal in the 71st minute, taking a feed from Zigelsky and beating the keeper low and to the right from about 15 yards away. Guth got a chance to see both keepers in action on Sunday. Shoaff started the match and played the opening 45 minutes, making four saves and allowing one goal. Freshman Nikki Filippone saved three shots in 45 second-half minutes. Three 2nd-half goals propel Lady Govs past Mountaineers Austin Peay opened the home schedule in style, against Appalachian State. The Lady Govs used three second-half goals to upend the Mountaineers, 3-1, at Morgan Brothers Field. The Lady Govs (2-1-0) fell behind early to the Mountaineers. A defensive breakdown gave Appalachian State’s (0-2-0) Jenna Caudle a breakaway in the game’s first minute, resulting in a blast to the left side that gave the Mountaineers an early one-goal lead. Austin Peay got on the board in the 62nd minute thanks to junior Joceline Quiceno. A feed from junior Tatiana Ariza found Quiceno’s foot and she put away the equalizer to the upper left corner.

34

Joceline’s twin sister Andy Quiceno netted the game-winner in the 78th minute. Ariza, who flummoxed the Mountaineers for much of the second half with long runs and tight crosses, fit the ball through a crowd and Andy slid the ball past Appalachian State’s Amy Kolowsky to the bottom left corner. Perkins provided the insurance goal in the 86th minute. A poor clear by Appalachian State and an athletic move from Perkins led to a breakaway that beat Kolowsky and ensured the Lady Govs victory. Shoaff picked up two saves en route to her season’s first victory. Kolowsky had five saves, four in the second half, in defeat. Missed opportunities costly in loss to Lipscomb Austin Peay had its chances in the second half against Lipscomb but was unable to capitalize, dropping a 1-0 home match to the Lady Bisons. Lipscomb (2-2-0) was on the attack early, putting the Lady Govs defense on its heels for much of the first half. The Lady Bisons strategy of long balls to the forwards put a strain on the Austin Peay (2-2-0) backline and tested Shoaff. The Lady Bisons broke through in the 38th minute. A Leah Wood corner kick curled around Shoaff for an unusual opening goal to the match. After halftime, the Lady Govs offense came to life, but was turned away on multiple occasions by the Lipscomb defense. Austin Peay attempted 13 shots in the second half, putting five on net. Tatiana Ariza attempted five shots, while Andy Quiceno attempted three and put one on goal. Early in the second half, an Austin Peay breakaway led to back-to-back shots on net by Perkins and Andy Quiceno. Lipscomb’s Erin Zerio turned away both attempts, and the Lady Govs were unable to capitalize on the resulting corner kick. Shoaff made three saves in the first half. Freshman Nikki Filippone entered at halftime and made one stop in the second half. Zerio finished with six saves. Offense stalls in loss to Gonzaga Another early goal put Austin Peay behind, and the Lady Govs were unable to find the equalizer, falling 1-0 to Gonzaga. When Filippone was forced to exit the game early in the first half due to injury, Shoaff was called in off the bench for Austin Peay (2-3-0). Gonzaga (4-1-0) forced across a ninth-minute goal on a Cricket Harber free kick that was touched to Kasey Rubosky by Emma Dolcetti. Rubosky put the header past the freshly-entered Shoaff for the go-ahead goal. Gonzaga kept the pressure on the Lady Govs in the second half, with 10 shot attempts, including four on goal. Shoaff made all four save attempts in the second half, and six total in the contest, to push her past Brooke Abrahams for fourth alltime in Lady Govs history with 104. Both Ariza sisters put shots on goal in the second half, but Gonzaga keeper Susan Brown stifled both attempts on net. She totaled three saves in the clean sheet.

AUSTIN PEAY WOMEN'S SOCCER 2013 Ariza scores twice in win against Chattanooga Austin Peay ran roughshod over visiting Chattanooga at Morgan Brothers Field. Two goals from Tatiana Ariza, including the game-winner, led the Lady Govs to a 4-1 victory against the Mocs. After giving up early goals in their previous two losses, the Lady Govs were the first to strike on Sunday. Andy Quiceno netted her season’s third goal to open scoring in the fifth minute, receiving a feed from Perkins and burying it into the back of the net. Chattanooga (1-3-1) would answer less than a minute later, with Becca Smith scoring off of a Hannah Wyatt corner kick. In the 28th minute, Austin Peay’s (3-3-0) Tatiana Ariza scored her season’s first goal, taking a low cross from her sister Natalia and burying the shot from about 15 yards out for the eventual game-winner. Perkins netted a goal of her own in the 56th minute, playing a deflection in the box from Van Wagner and beating the keeper for her season’s third goal. The goal gives Perkins sole possession of seventh place-all time in Lady Govs history. Tatiana Ariza added another insurance goal in the 59th minute to cap off the scoring. She now has six career multigoal games. Shoaff was solid in the net, picking up her season’s second win. She made two saves, while Chattanooga’s Lauren Thomas made four. Lady Govs falter against Redhawks Austin Peay couldn’t get the offense in gear at Miami (Ohio), falling to the Redhawks 4-0 at Miami Soccer Field. The Lady Govs were under the gun in the early stages of this match. Miami (Ohio) outshot the Lady Govs 13-3 in the opening half; the Lady Govs have been outshot by opponents 52-38 in the opening 45 minutes of games this season. An unfortunate error in the first half put Austin Peay behind. A collision between keeper Haylee Shoaff and a defender resulted in an own goal in the 41st minute. Katee Wensinger started the second-half scoring for Miami (Ohio). She rebounded a Jess Kodiak shot and put it away to double the score in the 54th minute. Kayla Zakrzewski (67th minute) and Kelly Sullivan (79th minute) wrapped up the scoring for the Redhawks. Shoaff battled heroically in net, facing 20 total shots and making seven saves. Golden goal downs Lady Govs against South Alabama After 105 hard-fought minutes, Austin Peay allowed a golden goal off a corner kick to fall to South Alabama, 1-0, at Morgan Brothers Field. Corner kicks, which the Lady Govs had six of in the first half, helped apply pressure to the South Alabama defense. Joceline Quiceno put an attempt on net in the 10th minute, and Perkins just missed a header in the 22nd that she out-jumped multiple Jaguar defenders to get a head on. In the second half, shots were more evenly distributed (9-8 in favor of the Lady Govs), but goals were just as elusive. Shoaff made two saves in the first five minutes of the half to

preserve the tie; all six of her saves came after halftime in this contest. Both teams failed to score in regulation, forcing overtime the first such occurrence for the Lady Govs this season. In the OT periods, Tatiana Ariza, who led all players with six shots and five on goal, put two shots on net but couldn’t find the nylon on either attempt. A corner kick awarded to South Alabama midway through the second overtime provided the Jaguars an opening on a set piece. An Alyssa Mayer corner kick was touched back by Shawn Meach and knocked in by Jessica Oram for the win. Shoaff made six saves in the loss for the Lady Govs. South Alabama’s Melissa Drish made 10 saves for her first victory this season. Ariza, Zigelsky dominant in Lady Govs victory A five-goal first half from Austin Peay got the Lady Govs out to a fast start against Alabama A&M. Austin Peay (4-5-0) defeated the Bulldogs, 6-1, for the Lady Govs third victory in a row against the SWAC foe. The Lady Govs jumped out to a quick lead in the game’s first minute. Zigelsky lofted a shot over the keeper’s head from just outside the 18-yard box just 43 seconds into the match. Junior Tatiana Ariza was credited with the assist, the first of two for her in the game. Zigelsky repaid the favor to her teammate in the eighth minute, assisting on Ariza’s third goal of the season. Ariza beat the keeper to the lower right corner, putting the Lady Govs up two and tying her with Ashley Beck (2005-08) for most career goals in Austin Peay history with 30. Zigelsky scored again on a breakaway in the 13th minute, which ties her with Ariza, Perkins and Andy Quiceno for the team lead with three goals apiece. Alabama A&M (0-9-0) got one back in the 17th minute on a long goal by Ana Huertas but the Lady Govs would answer. Joceline Quiceno netted her season’s second goal in the 40th minute, firing a shot from just outside the box. Freshman Melissa Fletcher added the final first-half goal just over a minute later on a breakaway. The goal was the first of Fletcher’s Lady Govs career. Junior Corey Osborn capped off the scoring similar to how it started. A long shot from the left side of the box sailed over the keeper’s head and into the net, resulting in Osborn’s first career goal. Shoaff made one save to earn her season’s third victory. Marissa Oehler made four saves in the second half for the Bulldogs. Lady Govs fall to Murray State in OVC opener Austin Peay outshot rival Murray State but fell to the Racers 1-0 in the Lady Govs Ohio Valley Conference opener. The Lady Govs (4-6-0, 0-1-0 OVC) dropped their OVC opener for the second year in a row despite keeping pressure on Murray State’s defense for much of the game. Much of the first half was spent between the goal boxes; Austin Peay was limited to two shots in the opening period, while Murray State was unable to manage a single shot at-

AUSTIN PEAY WOMEN'S SOCCER 2013 tempt in the opening 45 minutes. The Lady Govs offense came out more focused in the second half. Austin Peay attempted 10 second-half shots, putting five on net. Overall, the Lady Govs outshot Murray State 12-3. Murray State never got a sustained offensive push going, but took advantage of one of the few chances they did receive. In the 70th minute, reigning OVC Offensive Player of the Week Veronika Pryibyslavksa attempted a 25-yard shot that just got over the head of Haylee Shoaff for the eventual game-winner. Tatiana Ariza, Joceline Quiceno and junior Emily Kink each challenged Murray State’s Stevenson but could not find the net for equalizer late in the contest. Stevenson would make six saves in the victory, while Shoaff made one stop in defeat. Lady Govs come up short at UT Martin Austin Peay battled defending OVC Tournament champion UT Martin but fell 2-1 at Skyhawk Field The opening half was tightly contested, with both squads getting multiple chances on the net. Austin Peay (4-7-0, 0-2 OVC) forced UT Martin (4-4-3, 1-0-1 OVC) keeper Mariah Klenke to make four first-half saves, while Haylee Shoaff made three saves for the Lady Govs in the opening half. The Skyhawks broke through early in the second half when Alyssa Curtis headed in a Hannah McGowen cross in the 56th minute. Austin Peay would answer just two minutes later. Off a deflected save, Tatiana Ariza became the Lady Govs all-time leader in goals scored, poking the ball past Klenke for her 31st career goal, which passed Ashley Beck (2005-08) for most all-time. The Skyhawks netted the game-winner with less than seven minutes left in the match. Curtis collected a Shoaff save and found Saphyr Coombs-James about five yards out from the net for the goal. Shoaff made six saves in the loss, while Klenke saved seven shots between the posts for UT Martin. Shoaff passed Michelle Smith (2006-08) for third all-time in Austin Peay history with 127 career saves. Lady Govs bounce back with win at SEMO Austin Peay picked up a much-needed OVC victory by defeating Southeast Missouri 1-0, at Houck Stadium. After a back-and-forth first half Friday night against UT Martin, the Lady Govs (5-7-0, 1-2-0 OVC) controlled pace for much of the first half against Southeast Missouri (2-7-3, 1-1-1 OVC). Austin Peay outshot the Redhawks 7-5, putting five shots on net in the opening half. The Lady Govs got on the board in the 60th minute. Perkins beat Redhawks keeper Renee Kertz to a Zigelsky pass and slid it into the back of the net. The goal is the fourth for Perkins this season and moves her into sole possession of seventh place all-time in Lady Govs history in points with 24. Austin Peay would only attempt one more shot after Perkins’ goal, but it wouldn’t matter. The Lady Govs defense was exceptional over the game’s final 30 minutes, limiting the Redhawks in the attacking game and giving up few quality chances on the net.

36

Shoaff made six saves in her season’s first shutout, including three that preserved the Lady Govs lead. Kertz made eight saves for Southeast Missouri. Ariza scores twice, Lady Govs roll over Belmont A three-goal first half kick-started Austin Peay to a big conference win at Morgan Brothers Field. The Lady Govs welcomed Belmont to the OVC with an important 3-0 victory. The Lady Govs (6-7-0, 2-2-0 OVC) picked apart the Bruin defense early on, scoring twice in the opening five minutes of play. Tatiana Ariza got the scoring started in the fourth minute, scoring her season’s fifth goal after a poor clear by the Belmont (5-6-1, 1-2-1 OVC) defense gave her easy path to the net. Just over a minute later, Joceline Quiceno took a feed from her sister Andy and slid a shot to the lower left corner for the second Lady Govs goal. Austin Peay got that goal while playing one player short after Perkins was sidelined for a moment following an injury. The assist was the 13th of Andy Quiceno’s career, moving her into second-place all-time in Lady Govs history. Her sister Joceline moved into seventh place all-time in career points with 23. Ariza picked up her second goal in the 22nd minute on a heady play from the offensive wunderkind. After Perkin played a ball into the box that was misplayed by Belmont’s Nicole Berner, Ariza pounced on the loose ball and fired it into the open net for her season’s sixth goal. The offense wasn’t the only part of the Lady Govs catalogue on display. Shoaff picked up her second shutout in a row by making eight saves, her most against an OVC foe this season. Quiceno hat trick leads to blowout win at EIU Andy Quiceno netted her first career hat-trick and the Lady Govs used a four-goal first half to throttle Eastern Illinois (4-110, 2-3-0 OVC). Austin Peay (7-7-0, 3-2-0 OVC) dismantled the host Panthers, 6-1, to get rise above the .500 mark in the OVC. The Lady Govs started out slower than they have in recent games, failing to get off a shot in the game’s first 10 minutes, but quickly made up for it. Quiceno started the scoring with a 13th minute goal, collecting a pass from Natalia Ariza right in front of the net and burying it from three yards out for her season’s fourth goal. Ariza would assist on Perkins’ goal in the 19th minute, sending a cross from the top right of the box for Perkins’ fifth goal of the campaign. Natalia moved into fourth all-time in scoring with 32 points, and helped Perkins pass her on the all-time goals list with 12 career goals. Natalia’s twin sister Tatiana scored her team-leading seventh goal this season in the 28th minute, taking a pass from Perkins and burying it to move her past Ashley Beck’s 2006 season points total and into fourth all-time with 18 points. Tatiana has now scored or assisted on a goal in three of the Lady Govs last four games. Tatiana got her 19th point four minutes later when she assisted on Quiceno’s second goal, crossing it from the right and finding Quiceno’s foot from three yards out. Austin Peay’s offense slowed in the second half, although

AUSTIN PEAY WOMEN'S SOCCER 2013 Tatiana Ariza scored for a second time on a Perkins cross in the 59th minute to extend the lead, giving her eight goals this season -- the fourth-best mark in school history. Quiceno finished off the hat trick in the 79th minute, taking a cross from Tatiana and putting it away for her first career three-goal game as a Lady Gov. She’s the first Lady Gov with a hat trick since Ariza’s three-goal game against Union, Aug. 30, 2011. The six goals the Lady Govs scored were the program’s most ever in an OVC game, doubling the previous mark of three scored on five occasions, most recently against Belmont. Defensively, Shoaff made six saves for her third straight victory. She just missed her third consecutive shutout, allowing an 88th minute goal to Hannah Miller to spoil the clean sheet. Shoaff saves eight in tie at SIUE Facing one of the stingier defenses in the OVC, Austin Peay proved up to the challenge against SIU Edwardsville. The Lady Govs played the Cougars to a 0-0 draw at Korte Stadium in a battle between two top conference rivals . The Cougars controlled pace for much of the first half, outshooting Austin Peay 9-3 in the opening 45 minutes. The Lady Govs didn’t get a shot attempt off after the first 20 minutes; Zigelsky and Tatiana Ariza put shots on goal for Austin Peay in the first half. Shoaff was under fire early and often but held her own throughout the match. The Coral Springs, Fla., native made three saves in both halves and had eight total saves on the day. She now has 76 saves this season, the eighth-best singleseason total in school history. Shoaff’s foe in the opposing net, SIU Edwardsville’s Jennifer Pelley, made five saves on the day. Lady Govs blank TTU in pivotal OVC match A two-goal effort from junior Tatiana Ariza and timely goalkeeping by Shoaff propelled Austin Peay to a 2-0 victory against Tennessee Tech in OVC action at Morgan Brothers Field. After a scoreless first half, Austin Peay netted two quick goals to start the second stanza. On a Lady Govs corner kick, Ariza snuck behind the defense and headed home a cross from Osborn for her season’s ninth goal. For the second time in as many home matches, the Lady Govs scored a goal short a player after Zigelsky was sidelined for a moment following injury and Austin Peay elected to play on a player down. Tennessee Tech nearly answered two minutes later, slipping a shot past Shoaff for an apparent goal. Fortunately, a Golden Eagle was ruled offside and the goal was disallowed. In the 55th minute, Andy Quiceno found Ariza with a pass, and the Colombian Olympian embarked on a winding drive to the net, bouncing off defenders and hurdling would-be tacklers before slipping a shot past the keeper for the goal. Shoaff made seven saves in the contest, while opposing netminder Jordan Brown made 12 saves in defeat.

Lady Govs clinch OVC Tournament berth Shoaff recorded her fifth shutout in the last six games and Austin Peay clinched a berth in November’s OVC tournament with a 2-0 Senior Day victory against Jacksonville State at Morgan Brothers Field. The victory sends Austin Peay (9-7-1, 5-2-1 OVC) back to the conference tournament for the first time since 2010, when the Lady Govs reached their first-ever OVC Tournament championship game. Jacksonville State (10-6-2, 3-4-1) falls to seventh and sits outside the six-team field for next month’s conference championship. Austin Peay jumped out to an early lead thanks to the continued offensive brilliance of Tatiana Ariza. She corralled a loose ball in front of the Jacksonville State net and slipped it past the Gamecocks Katelyn Geddings for her season’s 11th goal. The Lady Govs got a late insurance goal from Joceline Quiceno, who made an athletic play to get a head on an Ariza cross and redirect into the net for her season’s fourth goal. Perkins also assisted on the play. Shoaff was stellar in net again, making four saves and earning her fifth shutout this season, all during OVC play. She’s now made 87 saves this season, tying her with Michelle Smith’s 2007 mark for sixth-most in a single season in Austin Peay history. For their efforts against Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech, Shoff and Tatiana Ariza were named the OVC women’s soccer Goalkeeper and Offensive Player of the Week, respectively. Lady Govs defeat Morehead State in road finale Austin Peay closed out the road portion of its 2012 schedule with a 1-0 win at Morehead State’s Jayne Stadium. With the victory, Austin Peay (10-7-1, 6-2-1 OVC) reached the 10-win plateau for the second time in school history, the first coming in the 2010 campaign that saw the Lady Govs reach the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship game for the first time in school history. Morehead State (1-12-4, 1-5-3 OVC), picked to finish third in the OVC in the preseason, was shut out for the seventh time this season. The Lady Govs notched the game-winner in the 20th minute, thanks to Perkins. The Nashville native scored her season’s sixth goal on a through ball from Andy Quiceno to put the Lady Govs up 1-0. The goal moved Perkins past Erica Dengler (2003-06) and Kaylee Yago (2002-05) for fourth all-time in Austin Peay history with 13 goals. Austin Peay was content to hold on to its lead from that point on, and concentrated its efforts defensively on shutting down the Eagles. Despite being outshot 15-5, Austin Peay limited Morehead State to just two shots on goal, both of which were saved by junior Haylee Shoaff for her season’s sixth shut out. Lady Govs down EKU, secure first-round bye Austin Peay locked up a bye in the OVC Tournament with a resounding 2-1 victory in the season finale against Eastern Kentucky. The Lady Govs (11-7-1, 7-2-1 OVC) closed out an undefeated October by earning a second-seed in the conference tourna-

Austin Peay got on the board in the 14th minute. Perkins assisted on a low cross to Tatiana Ariza, who put it away for her season’s 12th goal. That ties her with Ashley Beck’s 2007 season for the second-highest single-season mark in school history. Perkins netted her second goal of the weekend in the 24th minute, scoring on a run out from a long outlet pass from Zigelsky. The goal, her career’s 14th, tied Perkins with Jessica Hosse (2004-07) for third-highest career total in Austin Peay history. The Lady Govs turned the defense on after that, limiting the Colonels’ chances on net, but Eastern Kentucky would not go down quietly with a tournament bye on the line. In the 89th minute, Eastern Kentucky’s Dani Cant scored on a deflection that snapped a long shutout streak for the Govs. Austin Peay had not allowed a goal in more than 380 minutes, a streak of better than four games. Austin Peay would challenge Eastern Kentucky keeper Erika Wolfer, forcing her to make 10 saves, including eight in the second half. Shoaff made five saves for the victory. For her work against the Colonels and Morehead State, Perkins was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week and Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. Ariza named OVC Offensive Player of the Year Tatiana Ariza was named OVC Offensive Player of the Year and a school-record four Austin Peay women’s soccer players were named 2012 All-OVC teams, following a vote of OVC coaches and women’s soccer sports information directors. Ariza and her sister Natalia were named to the first-team, while Perkins and Shoaff earned second-team honors. Southeast Missouri’s Hayley Abbott was named Defensive Player of the Year, while UT Martin’s Saphyra Coombs-James taking Freshman of the Year and Skyhawks coach Phil McNamara earning Coach of the Year honors. Ariza scored 12 goals and tallied seven assists this season, leading the Lady Govs with 31 points in just 17 games after returning from duty with the Colombian National Team at the 2012 London Olympics. She scored nine goals and assisted on three others in conference matches, propelling Austin Peay to a second-place finish and first-round bye in the OVC Tournament. Later in the offseason, she would earn her second career NSCAA All-Region honor, a second-team nod. Her sister Natalia joined Tatiana on the first-team. Another Olympian, Natalia returned to Clarksville in a more defensive role this season, playing an exemplary midfield and sliding back to defender as needed. She assisted on three goals this season. She’s now a two-time first-team all-conference honoree (2010); she was second-team All-OVC in 2011. Perkins continued to rack up accolades in her final season. She was named to the All-OVC second team as a forward, tallying four of her seven goals and five of six assists in conference play. She tied with Tatiana Ariza for the OVC lead with four

game-winning goals this season. Shoaff rounded out the quartet of Lady Govs to earn accolades. The Coral Springs, Fla., native was nearly unbeatable in OVC play, posting six shutouts and 53 total saves in 10 conference matches. Her 93 saves this season are fourth-most in school history, and her six shutouts are tied for second-most all-time. She’s the first Lady Govs goalkeeper to earn all-conference honors since Sarah Broadbent in 2005. This is the first time in Austin Peay history that four Lady Govs have been selected All-Conference; three have been chosen on six occasions, most recently last year. Late goal puts Lady Govs in OVC Championship contest A late Joceline Quiceno goal propelled Austin Peay back into the OVC tournament final by way of a 1-0 victory against SIU Edwardsville at Skyhawk Stadium. A scoreless first-half was not without its chances on both sides. Shoaff made three first-half saves, while SIU Edwardsville (7-8-3) netminder Jennifer Pelley made two saves. Senior Emily Perkins (10th minute) and junior Joceline Quiceno (32nd minute) put shots on net for the Lady Govs in the first half. In the 84th minute, Tatiana Ariza sent a cross into the box that deflected off a Cougar defender. As the ball rolled toward the net, Quiceno slid into the box and knocked the ball into the net, giving Austin Peay its first lead against SIU Edwardsville this season and breaking a scoreless streak of greater than 200 minutes in matches between the two schools. Shoaff made six saves for the win; she now needs six saves to earn the third-highest single-season mark in school history. Pelley made four saves in the loss. Lady Govs fall to UT Martin in OVC Championship match Austin Peay battled regular season champion UT Martin in Sunday’s OVC Championship match but two late goals by the hosts were too much for the Lady Govs to overcome. Austin Peay fell to UT Martin, 2-0 at Skyhawk Field. Shoaff would pull off an amazing save in the 39th minute to keep the two sides level. UT Martin’s Dominika Conc got in behind the Lady Govs defense and steamrolled toward the goal unimpeded. Shoaff was able to deflect the shot out of bounds and Austin Peay cleared the ensuing corner kick to take the match into halftime with no score. In the 72nd minute, UT Martin found the back of the net. Off a free kick, Hannah McGowen served the ball into the box, where Alyssa Curtis headed it in. The goal put Austin Peay behind in a match for the first time since its Sept. 28 loss at UT Martin. In the 81st minute, Midori Sera bounced a goal in off the upper left corner of the cross bar to give the Skyhawks some breathing room. Austin Peay tried to rally late, but the Lady Govs couldn’t find an answer for Klenke, who finished with five saves. Shoaff, Perkins and Natalia Ariza were named to the AllTournament team. This match concluded the 2012 campaign for the Lady Govs, and the careers of six seniors: Perkins, Jazzmine Chandler, Kluttz, Jocelyn Murdoch, Renny Robinson and Stephanie Weider.
