s you might have noticed, we’re loving ocean-inspired knits this season, from sailor sweaters to seasidey accessories and homewares. This short jumper is knitted in classic blue and cream and features a simple slip stitch design. See our Knitwise panel for further explanation on the technique. It’s a great choice for summer and the loose fit means it can easily be popped on when the sea breezes get a bit too enthusiastic.

Larry the Lion Knit this roar-some playmate from Deramores!
C
ute, colourful and curlymaned, Larry is a fun and cuddly companion for your little one. Part of Deramores’ safari collection, he is easy to knit and even easier to love! The mane is worked using loop stitch, but don’t worry if you’ve never done it before – we’ve got step-by-step photos in our Knitwise panel (overleaf). Remember, if you are giving Larry to a young child, embroider the eyes instead of using buttons and make sure all the parts are really securely sewn together.

There are some fabulous techniques to try too, so read on and be inspired!

LOVING
Celebrate the season with cool yarns, the hottest trends and some of our favourite seaside stores!
ls! New Season Arriva HERE ARE TWO GREAT NEW COTTON-BASED YARNS TO ADD TO YOUR STASH, BOTH LAUNCHED ESPECIALLY FOR THE LATE-SUMMER SEASON! Cygnet Whopper is a brand new yarn
that blends cotton and acrylic. It is soft and cool, yet light to knit with and wear. There are eight bold and bright shades to choose from and it’s fabulously chunky, so is perfect for statement sweaters and striking homewares. www.cygnetyarns.com
Erika Knight Gossypium Cotton
celebrates cotton in all its natural glory. It is made in the Hisar district of Haryana, India, by an eco-friendly manufacturer who supports the local community. It has a soft, matte finish, comes in eight subtle shades and has a supporting collection of designs for babies. www.erikaknight.co.uk
FIBRE FACT FILE: Cotton SCIENTIFIC NAME: gossypium
The cotton plant grows in many continents and is one of the most versatile fibres. It absorbs moisture easily which in turn keeps you cool. In yarn production, cotton can either be left with a soft finish or go through a process called mercerisation, which makes the yarn strong and shiny. It takes dyes well so the colours really pop and has great stitch definition which lends itself to lacy designs and textured patterns, as well as crochet.
