Keep the colour in your garden throughout autumn

September is actually a really good time to plant fresh in your garden. Thesoil is still warm, and all being well, the wet weather will help bed in newplants. To keep your garden looking as colourful as summer, there are lots ofexuberant flowers that bloom in the autumn months.

Pansy

This garden staple all year round lend well to the colder weather too. Just make sure you opt for a winterflowering pansies that will keep going until late spring.

Heather

Often found on moors, Heather is a truly versatile plant that can handle the colder weather. It’s vibrant pink, white and purple colouring make it a great low-lying texture plant, and can lookfantastic in pots too!

Winter Aconite

Looks very much like a buttercup, the winter aconite has a beautiful bright yellow colour. They are best suited to growing underneath trees and shrubs as they prefer rich, moist soil and shady parts of the garden.

Cyclamen

Is the usual choice for autumn flowers as it remains intact throughout the winter weather. Its flowers come in a range of colours including Pink, red and white and look best planted in pots or under trees.

Crocus

The harsher autumn weather forces the crocus up through the ground, making these the perfect hardy plant for colder weather. The iconic, cup-shaped flowers look great in pots and borders, but plant them beneath trees and shrubs where they will be protected from heavy rain.
