CANCELLATION FEES / Cancellation by travellers before trips

In the event of cancellation of a holiday package booking, which includes plane tickets, accommodation, as agreed, and transport, the following cancellation terms apply: Cancellations up to 50 days before the date of arrival: €30.00 per booking; Cancellations between 49 and 40 days before the date of arrival: 25% of the total price of the vacation package; Cancellations between 39 and 30 days before the date of arrival: 30% of the total price of the vacation package; Cancellations between 29 and 21 days before the date of arrival: 35% of the total price of the vacation package; Cancellations between 20 and 7 days before the date of arrival: 60% of the total price of the vacation package; Cancellations up to 6 days before the date of arrival: 80% of the total price of the vacation package. In the event of no-show : 90% of the total price of the vacation package is going to be charged. (Customers can request the invoice regarding the cancellation fees or other costs).

ACCOMMODATION CATEGORIES

LES HIRONDELLES rates accommodation facilities and the services offered there at any given time according to its own very strict rating criteria, that often result in a category classification different from that of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT), whether this classification is based on the star-rating system or a keyrating system. For the purpose of achieving a consistent, easily comprehensible category classification, we take the following into account during the rating process: facilities, furnishings and the quality of services provided. You can get an overview by noting the number of SWALLOWS that correspond to our rating. LES HIRONDELLES is exclusively responsible for this rating.

CATEGORY UNDER TRAVEL AGENCIES LES HIRONDELLES

1 swallow: Simple, decent accommodation for our guests that are not too demanding regarding the facilities and the furniture of their accommodation during their stay.

2 swallows: Simple accommodation with the necessary facilities.

3 swallows: Average well maintained accommodation with equipment in very good condition in selected areas with a pleasant surrounding environment.

4+ swallows: High standard accommodation with very good facilities and equipment that will satisfy even the most demanding customers. Some of these hotels / lodgings are very luxurious.

TYPES OF ACCOMMODATION LES HIRONDELLES, explains the different Types of accommodation that can be found in the prospect and the price list. Type A: A one bedroom apartment (STUDIO) which can also be used as a living room with a separate kitchenette fully equipped, WC and shower facilities. These apartments can accommodate 2-3 people. Type B: A two room apartment that consists of a bedroom and a living room with an open plan kitchen fully equipped, WC/shower or a living room that can be used as a bedroom with two sofa beds, kitchenette fully equipped, WC and shower facilities. In both cases the rooms are connected. These apartments can accommodate 2-4 people. Type C: A two room apartment that consists of two separate bedrooms and a fully equipped kitchen, WC/shower. This type of apartment does not have a living room. These apartments can accommodate 4-5 people.

Type D: A three room apartment, consisting of two bedrooms and living room that can be used as a bedroom with two sofa beds, a full equipped kitchenette, WC/ shower or bathtub. These apartments can accommodate 4-6 people.

DOUBLE ROOMS AS SINGLE FOR ONE ADULT WITH CHILD(REN) 1 adult in a double room, accompanying a child between the age of 2 and 12.1 adult in a double room, accompanying two children between the age of 2 and 12.

Type E: It consists of four rooms, three bedrooms and a living room that can be used as a bedroom with two sofa beds, a full equipped kitchenette, WC/shower or bath tub. These apartments can accommodate 6-8 people.

House Type or VILLA A separate house or villa that is used only by the customers. The owner of the house does not live there, nor does he rent part of the house to other tenants. THESSALY The Thessalian basin was created at the end of the 3rd period of the Caenozoic era (60 to 4 thousand million years ago).The basin originally contained a large lake, the waters of which were confined by the surrounding mountains.The geological activity that created the Tempe Valley, allowed the lake`s waters to flow into the sea. This natural phenomenon left behind the lakes of Voiviida (a.k.a. Carla), Nessonida, and a large plain, which was the base of the area's agriculture for centuries. Surrounded by mountains of renowned beauty, Thessaly stands out for its nature unique character and geographical variation. The Northern Sporades island complex, (Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonnisos), Mount Pelion,Olympys, Kissavos, and the Agrapha mountain range, are all areas of immense and celebrated beauty. The area portrays high historical and mythological reputation.Mount Olympous became famous because of its role in ancient Greek mythology, being the home of the 12 gods (Zeus, Hera, etc.).Mount Pelion was supposed to have been home to Centaurs, and school of the most famous of all, Heron, a school through which passed all the ancient heroes of Greece, Hercules and Theseus included. Iolkos, an ancient cite located at the mountain`s foothills is also the home city of Jason and the Argonauts. Historically, the area is not famous for legends alone. With the earliest sightings dating since the time of prehistoric man, and a number of unique Paleolithic and Neolithic sights, ancient Greek and Roman excavations are actually a common thing. The area is not short on Byzantine and Medieval cites either. Byzantine churches such as those found at Meteora are a worldwide attraction. The vertical rocks on which the monasteries are build, constitute a unique geological phenomenon of unequaled beauty and interest. Everyday life is traditional with settlements and villages composed of neoclassical houses constructed in the last two or three centuries, and connected by rock covered streets and alleys that seem to have been brought out of the past. Eastern Pelion Here is one of the most imposing mountain landscapes, harmoniously combined with the sea. Departing from Volos, following the road to Portaria and Makrinitsa, which leads to Hania you can witness breathtaking views of the Pagasitikos Gulf. Continuing, the serpentine-like, winding road leads along the dense beech and chestnut trees down to Zagora (47km, 480m above sea level). This is Pelion`s largest village that provides many stunning views of the sea. Here you can visit the famous school where the spiritual fathers of the Greek revolution attended. The historic library is also worth visiting, with rare books and manuscripts, along with the Byzantine churches of Agios Georgios and Agia Kyriaki. The port of Zagora has a beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear waters. From the tree -studded town square, the view extends over three levels, which is also known as the "Balcony of the Aegean". South of Zagora you will find the village Makrirahi (46km from Volos, 300m above sea level). A deep picturesque ravine divides the town from the neighbouring village Anilio, which is a typical traditional village found in the Pelion region. Further south, it is worth leaving the main road to visit Kissos, one of the most moutainous villages on the east side of Pelion. Near the church, there is a small museum of icons and woodcuts of Byzantine art. In Kissos, during the Turkish domination taught Rigas Fereos. In the school there is his bust.

Central and South Pelion Around 28km from Volos is one of the most picturesque villages of Pelion, Milies, which is the main village of central Pelion. From Lechonia the railway runs between olive trees as if finds its way up through the mountain. You'll pass the stations Ano Gatzea, Agia Triada, Agios Athanasios Pinakaton, also the settlement in Argireika Vizitsa before you enter the final destination station of Milies. The little train of Pelion climbed up the mountain for 76 years, from 1895 to 1971, and transfered people and goods, contributing significantly to the sharp growth in the region. It was built by the Italian engineer Evaristo De Chirico, father of the famous painter Giorgio De Chirico. The neighbouring Vizitsa, which is a Grade II listed village impresses its visitors from the outset. The same applies for Pinakates, where you can admire the beautiful natural scenery, the abundant waters, the wild vegetation and enjoy the most soothing quiet of the countryside. Kala Nera, a picturesque coastal town with a large sandy beach, in summer is full of life. Attractive sandy beach, crystal clear waters, water sports and activities, cafes, picturesque fish taverns, folklore art shops will satisfy even the most demanding guests. Neochori, with the wonderful climate and the unique village square over several levels, hosts the entrance to the imposing church of Agios Dimitrios, a must for you to explore. Afetes, the village that was built over Afissos offers spectacular views overlooking Pagasitikos Gulf.

The southern coast is especially beautiful for its landscape at the charming little village on the Bay of Tzasteni ,Valtoudi, by the Gulf of Pagasitikos. The beach of Potistika in Paltsi, whose shores bathe in the Aegean Sea, is one of the most beautiful beaches of the Pelion region. Southern Pelion has many traditions including the special celebration in August, in Argalasti and Trikeri, the Olive Festival. Celebrated on the first Friday after Easter, the feast Zoodochos Pigis. Here and at other local church festivals you can still see the rich, gold-embroidered costumes, the older women wear in Trikeri, full gloss is celebrated in Agia Kyriaki the great Sea Festival on 7 July, which is celebrated every year in the port of the village. In the small taverns of Agia Kyriaki an abundance of fresh produce is offered, fished straight out of the waters of the Aegean. In the lively resort of Milina, there is a turbulent and cosmopolitan nightlife and you can also experience the most beautiful sunsets of Pelion. From the port of Platanias there is also regular ferry service to the northern Sporades Islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos.

Holiday on the peninsula with its mountain villages in Pelion

Traditional Mansions

Among the important works of folk art, regardless of the historical course of Pelion throughout the past centuries, architectural creations and decorations are the best preserved. This traditional manor house in Pelion is a massive structure with usually three storeys. The first two floors are made of stone, with thick walls and few windows. The door usually has a lintel of stone or marble, through which one can enter the ground floor and basement. The basement was used as a food storage. A wooden staircase leads to the first floor, where was the kitchen, and a family stayed there during the day. In contrast to the two lower floors, the third floor is a lighter wood construction with many windows and skylights where a family lived in the summer and received visitors. Since the mid-19th Century the first classical decorative elements appeared in mansions. Groups of artisans in the 18 Century that were commissioned by trade have come to build bridges but also monasteries and churches for the prosperity of citizens. Since most of the artisans from the village Soupani (now Pentalofo) came, they were called Soupaniotes or Sipaniotes. One of them, the builder Dimos Sipaniotis left his mark in countless churches in the area of Pelion. He worked along with a friend of his, the sculptor Milios. By these builders also locals have been trained, and built most of the streets in Pelion. The traditional mansions - in Greek "Archontika" - are mostly from the 18th Century and feature great visual wealth for the visitors. Built by ancient craftsmen, who valued the typical architecture, these mansions bring forth the glory days of old that is maintained and reappears. Many of the mansions have been lovingly restored from individuals or by the assistance of Greek National Tourism. They are furnished with old pieces of furniture and are available for rent. houses of approximately square shape that consists of three floors - with the bearing and the working spaces below, the winter residence in the middle and the representative summer residence above. For houses built on the hillside, the two lower floors are partially sunk into the hillside. The upper floor is one of a very shallow conical covered roof, usually projecting on all sides of the basement with lattice structure. This tower houses accomodated all aspects of life under a common roof - work, bearing and housing. PORTARIA MAKRINITSA MAKRINITSA 12 km from the city of Volos, at an altitude of 450m is the settlement of Katichori -the lower village- , since it is below Portaria. Through a way of 1km you are led to Portaria but before arriving there, a side road of 3 klm leads left to Makrinitsa. Both villages, at an altitude of 600 m , are two of the most famous villages of Pelion, with their mansions, climbing, cobbled streets and the small streams running beside them. Discover Greek cuisine and the hidden treasures in a culinary journey in the beautiful village of Portaria in Pelion. The courses take place at the local Karaiskou Farm , which is known for its several traditional cooking techniques, ingredients and family recipes that have remained unchanged over the centuries. Participants will be transferred to the farm at 10:00 where they will have the opportunity to be welcomed to enjoy their coffee with the -mustaccompanying Turkish delight. Continue and visit the vegetable garden to learn about local seasonal products and herbs of Pelion. During the course raki or ouzo will be offered with accompanying olives and feta cheese.
