Skip Steinworth lives and works in Minnesota. He earned his BA and MA from St. Cloud University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Minneapolis Art Institute, among others. Most recently, Steinworth has been honored with two solo exhibitions at the Evansville Museum of Art.
With a keen eye and a tremendous dexterity with the graphite medium, Skip Steinworth has built a distinguished reputation for his radiant compositions. In his latest body of work, Steinworth builds upon his notably lucid approach to still-life in a remarkable collection of master drawings. Over the past forty years, Steinworth has dedicated himself to an earnest exploration of the power of pencil on paper. Composing arrangements in the style of a 17thcentury Dutch still life, Steinworth brings verve and mystery to his renderings of commonplace objects. Using humble graphite, Steinworth breathes life into his insightful groupings of inanimate objects. His guiding principle is that each pencil mark must serve to define and convey the full intentions of the works. Embracing a modest palette of black, gray, and white, he skillfully conveys the essence of spirituality encapsulated within specific moments in time.

In his transcendent works, his luminous renderings are rife with symbolism yet completely devoid of pretension. His purposeful, resolved compositions and subtle, straightforward draftsmanship allow the viewer ample space to unravel the coded messages within. Firmly rooted in time, his rich still lifes are simultaneously evocative of a past reminiscence and a portent of things to come. Each of Steinworth’s drawings are imbued with a quiet sense of timeless nostalgia – a glimpse of the ephemeral and the eternal.
