Classes and workshops offered by Corporate & Community Learning feature an intellectual broadband of programs that can help you maintain a steady course, if that is your need. These include “Financial Fitness” to stay on a budget, computer workshops to keep up your professional skills, or “Zumba” to stay healthy while having fun. If you want change, however, other courses can open doors to new hobbies or help you explore new ways of seeing the world, such as “Fondant Cake Decorating” or “Paint With Light: Digital Photography.” Whatever the goals you set, the dynamic learning experiences in this catalog may help you achieve them.

In this 2–hour workshop with professional photographer Michelle Mueller you will discuss concepts, equipment, demands and photographic techniques used by contemporary wedding photographers. Language Arts Spanish for Travelers

Whether you’re planning a trip to a Spanishspeaking country or just want to learn how to decipher the menu at a Mexican restaurant, this introductory class is perfect for adults with limited or no previous experience with the Spanish language. The class will focus on language. Participants will, however, become familiar with customs and practices in Spanish-speaking countries that are different from those in the United States and with which a traveler’s familiarity can be important in making the experience abroad more predictable and enjoyable. Spanish for Law Enforcement

With more and more Spanish-speaking people living in the United States every year, learning the Spanish language is becoming ever more important—especially in the field of law enforcement, where clear and quick communication is crucial. Whether you’re new to the Spanish language or just want a refresher, this Spanish course will give you the basic tools needed for everything from making casual conversation to handling life-or-death situations. Better yet, you’ll focus specifically on Spanish for law enforcement officers, skipping the “touristy” phrases you don’t need to know. This course will focus on the Chinese martial art of Wing Chun. This effective self–defense system utilizes intricate hand techniques specifically designed for defense in close range situations. Build on the basic fundamentals and take your golf game to the next level. This will include working on consistency with ball flight, direction and distance, learning how far you hit each club, developing a consistent Preshot Routine, learning good Course Management and working on short game variations. You will still spend time on the range, however, now it’s time to learn how to really play golf on the course. This is the only place you can really learn to play the game. Want to get involved in the stewardship of the state’s rivers and streams? Grab your rubber boots and join the Illinois RiverWatch Program! During this interactive workshop, we will learn to identify stream macroinvertebrates (such as the, dragonfly and mayfly nymphs, beetles, snails, and much more) and practice proper monitoring techniques at a local stream. America’s Boating Course

New and experienced boaters, including kayakers and canoeists, hunters and fisherman in an outboard boat, and the skippers of power boats and sailboats, will benefit from this boating safety course sanctioned by the United States Power Squadron. This course covers the basics you need to know to safely and legally operate your boat, such as boating terminology, boat handling, water sports safety, PWCs, legally required equipment, boating laws and regulations, right-of-way rules between boats, and marine radio operation. Participants who attend all class sessions and pass the final exam will be issued a card by the Commander of the St. Louis Sail and Power Squadron certifying successful completion of the course. Dazzle your friends with the look of a rolled fondant cake and other decorated masterpieces as you take your basic cake decorating skills to the next level. Learn the basics of rolled fondant, coloring fondant, and fondant covered cakes and circles. Mold a fondant rose and make flowers, drapes, borders and more. Introduction to Stained Glass

Bring the glowing color of stained glass into your home by learning traditional methods to create stunning works of art. Using the copper foil technique (Tiffany method), cutting, breaking, grozing and soldering, you will create three projects: an 8x10” stained glass panel, a threedimensional object such as a candle holder, and a sun catcher. The Rocky Branch Saddle Club’s 10–level program takes riders from beginner to accomplished equestrian. Each level is a set of building blocks combining riding skills and horse care knowledge such as how much oats to feed a horse, the difference between hay and straw, and how to clean a horse’s hooves. Riding activities include playing games on horseback, riding bareback, navigating hills and bridges and a life–size riding maze. Saddle Club riders will learn to ride both English and Western styles with confidence. Flagger: Highway Work Zone Safety

This course will focus on a review of the standards established by the National Safety Council and the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Emphasis is placed on individual flagger requirements regarding at–risk worker training and responsibilities. Four Hand Massage is a very unique treatment performed by two therapists working in unison to balance energy and induce deep relaxation while incorporating the principles of thermotherapy, reflexology, and Swedish massage techniques. Hundreds of practice questions are true/false, multiplechoice and map work. Students must pass the TAP by a score of 70% or higher. Exam fee is not included in course fee. A Guide to the Cruise Industry

Welcome to this exciting introduction to the world of cruising. You will begin your study with a brief history of the amazing evolution of the cruise industry. Learn about the many unique cruise regions around the world, and the ports of call, shore excursions and attractions at different destinations. Explore the many different cruise companies, learn how to read a cruise brochure and a deck plan, how to market, promote, price and book a cruise vacation for individuals or groups. Withdrawal/Refund

For classes that meet four or more times, you may withdraw before the start of the second session in order to receive a refund. There are no refunds for classes that meet three or fewer times once the class has begun. To withdraw, call the Enrollment Center at (618) 468.7000.

All classes have limited enrollments and are filled on a first–come, first–served basis. Each class also has a minimum required enrollment. If this minimum is not met prior to a class starting, the class will be canceled and enrollment fees returned.

General Professional Development Technology College for Kids Personal Enrichment Swim Corporate Training

Children should attend class dressed appropriately for the weather or to suit the program. Art and science classes may be messy! Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles to class; water is always available for refilling. Students attending an all–day class should bring a sack lunch and drink.

Safety

Students should be dropped off no earlier than 10 minutes before their class begins and should be picked up immediately following dismissal. Supervision will be provided for students ONLY 10 minutes before and after class.
