This catalog reflects a wide range of learning opportunities from preparing for a new or future career, to professional development in a given career track, to safer protocols for doing one’s daily work.

(618) 468–2310

We also continue to offer various business solutions, including job assessment services. Such assessments can increase productivity for human resource departments needing to identify and recruit competent new-hires. Please see the notes on the back of this catalog or give us a call. And for the last decade, the college has been the only provider in downstate Illinois for the SHRM certification prep course, Learning System, and also the foundational SHRM course, Essentials of HR.

Switching to future fire fighters, we have a major switch to announce: the introductory Firefighter Basic course has moved from the college’s academic side to this department. Participants will however, still receive academic credit for successfully completing the requirements. And the same fire fighter instructors, Tom Davison and Luke Warner, will still be teaching. The switch is in response to changes within the Illinois Fire Service curriculum, however, it has resulted in a price decrease from where it used to be. We hope that is good news! Please see details on page 3. WESST began a new tradition this summer, The Expert Chat. Our first expert, Dennis Pivin, CHST, CET, came from St. Louis to provide clarity around the new Confined Space Construction standard and was well-received by a large audience. Our next Expert Chat is with Dr. Nadine Kouba, Ph.D., ACC, newly retired from Boeing’s Leadership Academy. She comes to the Metro East for the first time to overview professional coaching. See page 4 for details. Beyond the scheduled programming in this catalog, the college can set up a broad array of business, supervisory, leadership, team building, computer application and safety courses. These can be arranged on a date your company prefers and at your own location if the facility serves the learning need. Some of the most popular requests for such “traveling classes” include CPR, AED, First Aid & Blood Borne Pathogens, Fire Extinguisher Basics, and PC applications such as Excel or QuickBooks. We have more than 3,000 titles, and can customize them to your needs. If you don’t see what you want, please call anyone in our department. We will get you to the right person.

Career Success The Successful Job Interview

If your application is accepted and you are contacted by an HR department for a job interview, you will be asked questions that go beyond your education and past work skills. Are you prepared to answer “tough” queries about projects that went awry or bosses who terminated you? Do you understand the dynamic behind that old saying, “You only get one chance to make a good first impression?” Can you articulate the value you can bring to this employment opportunity in a way that makes the recruiter envision you working for the company? In this three–hour workshop, you will be given pointers for a successful interview, practice with typical behavioral interviewing questions, and will have your individual action plan privately reviewed for feedback on successfully addressing your own personally dreaded “worst question.” CEPD–409–N1 $99 Tue Sep 25 1–4PM
