Leadership Emotional Intelligence: EI

Road rage. Anger management. Bullying. Medical science has demonstrated why it is impossible to follow that old adage to leave one’s emotions at the workplace door, yet uncontrolled, negative emotions take a toll on workers and on the bottom line. On the other hand, Emotional Intelligence, or E.I., is more highly correlated with on–the–job success than I.Q. Emotionally intelligent people excel in life because they recognize and leverage their own feelings as well as those of the people they interface with for more effective relationships and work behaviors. Learn to use the five competencies for emotional intelligence as well as the biomolecular science that describes E.I. Behavioral–Based Interviews

Do you dread interviewing for a new job or more advanced position? It may be due to the emphasis in modern human resource departments on behavioral–based interviewing questions. They can seem intrusive and tricky if you are not prepared. If you understand the strategy behind such questions, however, you can apply proven techniques to most effectively answer them. So turn that next behavioral–based interview into an opportunity to showcase your own experiences and character traits that can make you seem the ideal candidate for the position. Survival Tactics for New Supervisors

Yesterday, you were one of the employees who took orders; one of the team. Now you’re in charge of the team. What do you do? How do you change from being one of the workers to supervising all of the workers? Most importantly, how do you make that change so that you gain the respect and confidence of your employees, your own manager who hired or promoted you, and also respect yourself in the process? Are you aware that the most important part of supervising others is controlling yourself? Would you like to know time–tested tactics to handle the typical situations faced by supervisors everywhere? In this half–day workshop, you will learn techniques and strategies in the Successful Supervisors Toolkit so that you don’t wreck your career (or damage other employees) just as you get started. If you feel it is sink or swim in your new role, this crash course provides a life line. At the conclusion of this session, you can immediately use what you learn so that you can mature into being the kind of boss others want to work for. CEPD–440–01 Wed Mar 28

Email is more prevalent today than ever before. Its instantaneous nature makes it a convenient, time–saving tool for businesses. However, it is also more important than ever to take the time to write messages that are secure as well as clear and error–free. The revised edition of Writing Effective Email includes an added emphasis on how to avoid workplace disasters such as lost sales, customer–service nightmares––and in the worst cases, lawsuits and financial losses–– triggered by careless or poorly written email. Most of the common–sense content applies equally to texting, which is increasingly a vital communication tool in today’s wired world. CEPD–420–01 Wed Apr 25

Building an Environment of Trust

To paraphrase FDR, there is nothing worse for a leader than to look over your shoulder and find that no one is following. The research is clear– more than attributes like creativity, more than techniques like great speaking skills, and more than any kind of managerial expertise, the indispensable business competency is to be trustworthy. If it sounds like an unproven soft topic, that is wrong. There is data–driven research and also a solid business science that you can apply to increase your effectiveness as a trustworthy leader.
