If you didn’t know, we are the educational partner with several professional development societies including the Society for Human Resource Managers (SHRM). Through SHRM, we offer a certification exam prep course. Our free Expert Chat breakfast session in October was well–attended as the local SHRM chapter’s featured legal resource, Mr. Tom Berry, updated the human resources staff from district companies on federal and state laws impacting businesses regarding recreational marijuana, minimum wage and other new legislation. This issue also launches two new educational partnerships. The first, benefitting project managers and others with project responsibilities, is that PMI Metro St. Louis will begin offering workshops and examination certification preparatory courses through our department. We are very excited to support the Project Management Institute’s members, many of whom live and/or work in the college’s service area. To kick off this relationship, Rob Kurtz, an agile software delivery lead for World Wide Technology, will be our Spring Semester Expert. His “chat,” Demystify Agile Software Development, is described on page 4. Please register early, as seats nearly filled up for the Fall Semester Expert. The second is in conjunction with the Experimental Aircraft Association for a Ground School testing preparation course. To be taught by FAA–certified flight instructors, this classroom–based offering is an introductory step to obtaining a pilot’s license. See the details on page 3. Remember, if you don’t see what you need in the schedule, call anyone in our department. We have more than 3,000 titles and they can’t all fit in one semester of open enrollments. We can customize any course to your firm’s needs, or schedule them in a time and location appropriate for your employees.

WESST Customer Spotlight / Voice of the Client

“To our customers, Ameren Illinois is known for providing safe, reliable and affordable natural gas and electric service. What may not be as well known, however, is our commitment to road safety. Through a partnership with Lewis and Clark Community College, Ameren Illinois employees who drive trailers and heavy equipment trucks are required to complete rigorous training to prepare for their state Commercial Drivers License examinations. Lewis and Clark Community College’s experienced trainers combine instruction in areas such as pre–trip inspections and defensive driving with comprehensive in–the–vehicle practice sessions and coaching. Safe–driving is part of our ongoing commitment to be a valued corporate citizen.” Richard Mark, Chairman & President, Ameren Illinois Pictured from left to right: Brian Doran, Derek Cliff, Kyle Kosydor, Erik Scroggins, Jackson Renner and Brad Hoernis
