The Lewis and Clark Pups Travel the Trail

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System, five special (plush toy) dogs, the Lewis and Clark Pups, traveled in the paw prints of their ancestor Seaman, dog of Meriwether Lewis.

The pups covered over 3,700 miles to complete their mission to commemorate and protect the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. Each pup stopped at various visitor locations along the Trail and a blog post was submitted from each stop. Harper enjoyed her visit to Ice Harbor Lock and Dam, the last dam on the Snake River before it merges with the Columbia River.

Harper hikes to the top of the cliffs at Buffalo Jump State Park. It is known for being the largest buffalo jump in North America. Ulm, Montana.

Harper learns about the effects of fre; fora and fauna; and history at Multonmah Falls, Oregon.

Keelie visited Tamástslikt Cultural Institute on the Umatilla Indian Reservation, outside Pendleton, Oregon. She was greeted by Director Roberta Conner and her horses, Hero and Squeezy.

Keelie sits with docent Norm Miller inside a real dugout canoe built by the 4th great grandson of Captain Clark, Churchill Clark. Yellowstone Gateway Museum. Livingston, Montana.

Rocky helps Ranger Sierra greet visitors to Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site in Stanton, North Dakota.

Rocky gets spoiled by young visitors to Lewis and Clark // State Park in Onawa, .,, Iowa.

Dakota goes sightseeing around Boonville, Missouri with great friends from the River, Rails and Trails Museum and Visitor Center. Here he takes in the view at Lookout Point in Harley Park.
