Stephen Lyman Memorial Children’s Art Exhibit The Stephen Lyman Memorial Children’s Art Exhibit, an annual exhibit of selected Dogwood themed artwork from area K-6 grade students opens Saturday, April1st at the LCSC Center for Arts & History. The exhibit runs April 1 – April 29. The Stephen Lyman Memorial Children’s Art Exhibit is one of the Dogwood Festival’s oldest events, held in honor of Stephen Lyman, renowned outdoor artist, who died in a 1996 hiking accident in Yosemite National Park. Wildlife artist Stephen Lyman was an explorer who specialized in painting the most elusive moments in nature. Stephen attended Whitman and Webster Elementary Schools, Jennifer Junior High, and graduated as Valedictorian of the Lewiston High School class of 1975. Lyman’s love of the great outdoors stemmed from a childhood spent in the Pacific Northwest, where hiking in Snake River country was a regular family ritual and enjoyed art throughout his life.
This exhibit, a collection of artwork produced by elementary students of the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and surrounding areas, celebrates dogwoods and the great outdoors that Stephen Lyman loved. The exhibit is sponsored by Charles and Diana Brown. Participating schools in 2017 include (as of 3/30/2017):
• • • • • •
Orchards Elementary McGhee Elementary Holy Family Cornerstone Christian School Monarch Academy The Children’s House Montessori School
