POTLATCH, ID - In 1905, Potlatch Lumber built the town, including the church and school, and managed its affairs. The park is near the site of what was once the largest steam-powered sawmill in the world. A steam engine of the
Potlatch Railroad and the Depot are part of this unique historical site. Walking-tour brochures are available at City Hall on 6th and Main Street. Hunting, fishing and ATV riding are just some of the activities you can enjoy nearby.
Grangeville, Idaho
Hunting – With the most square miles of wilderness in the lower 48 states, Idaho offers the best in big game hunting and experienced outfitters to escort you. Elk, mule deer, big horn sheep and black bear are among the favorites. Grouse, quail, chukar and pheasant are a few of the upland game birds available, while Canada geese and mallards are the most common waterfowl. For the best in hunting, set your sights on Idaho. Fishing – Our rivers and lakes are full of steelhead, salmon, trout, bass, kokanee and dolly varden. North Central Idaho is legendary for its fishing and it’s no wonder. The Nez Perce people have fished from these clear waters since the beginning of time. Lakes, rivers, streams, reservoirs - it’s your choice! Some of the nation’s hottest steelhead (a rainbow trout over 20 inches) fishing is here. Fishermen line the South Fork of the Clearwater River when the fishing gets hot. You won’t want to miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to catch a sturgeon in Hells Canyon. The largest freshwater fish in the United States, the white sturgeon can reach lengths in excess of 10 feet and weigh more than 1,000 pounds. Fish North Central Idaho waters on your own or with an outfitter or guide. Visit Idaho Outfitters & Guides website for licensed outfitters in Idaho. AND RESTAURANT Be sure to check with Lunch & Dinner the Idaho Department Breakfast All Day of Fish and Game for 317 NezPerce (Main St.) Winchester, ID licensing rules and regu208-924-7255 lations. 313973HR-11

Orofino Lumberjack Days Orofino, ID
Orofino Celebrations Inc., OCI, was formed in 1946 with the idea of making a bigger and better county fair. A committee drew up by-laws and a constitution, and then the officers were elected. It was decided to have a three day celebration of parades, concessions, games, contests and publicity to promote the town of Orofino and the county of Clearwater. The Lumberjack Show was started with the idea of furthering our lumbering industry and way of life, along with that of farming. It showcased the arts and skills of the logger, especially those skills that were dying out due to mechanization. On Sept. 28, 1947, the first Lumberjack Day was held with approximately 4,000 people watching. Thus the organization and the idea was born and has been continued for 64 years with many changes being made along the way, but the general idea of promoting the forest industry and the loggers’ way of life is still upheld. The first contests offered just a few events, while today’s show offers: BURLING--SPRINGBOARD CHOP--HORIZONTAL CHOP--VERTICAL CHOP--OBSTACLE POLE--AXE THROWING-STOCK POWER SAW--SINGLE BUCKING--TWO JACK (DOUBLE) BUCKING--JACK AND JILL BUCKING--SPEED CLIMBING-TREE TOPPING--CHOKER SETTING--HOT SAWING (OPEN This fall fish for the mighty B-run steelhead on the Clearwater River CLASS)--TUG OF WAR--SKIDDER DRIVING--TRUCK DRIVING. with an experienced guide! Grab your friends and come visit us at the The loyal OCI members and contestants enjoy the show as much famous Riverside Motel & Guide Service in Orofino, Idaho.
