Nick Egland Nick Egland 2023 Lewiston Roundup Grand Marshall
When you talk about an agriculture and animal science community, you can’t help but think of the impact our 89th Lewiston Roundup Grand Marshall has had; Mr. Nick Egland.
He was born on May 31, 1952 at Gritman Memorial Hospital in Moscow, Idaho. He is the eldest of the five children to parents Harry Egland and Irma Egland (Schlader).
Nick’s dad was a local John Deere mechanic and salesman. They lived in Genesee where Nick helped on the family farm raising hay, cattle, and pigs. He attended primary and secondary school in Genesee, graduating in 1970. During these years he was very active in FFA and playing basketball.
After completing his freshman year at the University of Idaho, Nick was drafted into the US Army, serving two years as a military policeman before being honorably discharged in 1973.
During this time Nick and Peggy Boyer of Nez Perce Idaho were married in the fall of 1972. They are the parents of two
sons - Carson and Garrett. They enjoyed taking horseback trips and camping in the summers while the kids were growing up. They are now the proud grandparents of four grandchildren - Lucy and Lily are Carson’s daughters, and Josie and Ollie are Garrett and Charity’s children.
After returning to North Idaho, Nick enrolled in the pre-veterinary medicine program at the University of Idaho where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. Nick continued to pursue his dream of becoming a veterinarian and was accepted into veterinary school at Washington State University in 1979. He graduated in 1982 and started working at the Lewiston Veterinary Clinic that same year. He eventually became an owner
and had a long career until he started his retirement in 2014. He continues to help and fill in at the Lewiston Veterinary Clinic to this day.
He has been the owner of the Egland Cattle Ranch since 1993. He volunteered for the Lewiston Roundup for 30+ years. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Chief Joseph Foundation in Lapwai, Idaho from 1990-2000. Many years were spent volunteering veterinary services for the Asotin County Fair, Nez Perce County Fair, Garfield County Fair, and Latah County Fair. He has been a member of the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and Nez Perce Cattlemen’s Association for over 31 years.

2023 Roundup Royalty Queen Lexi Way Queen Lexi Way
The 2023 Lewiston Roundup Queen is Lexi Way. She is the 20 year old daughter of Cheryl and Mark Way. Lexi attended high school in Nampa, Idaho and is currently attending the University of Idaho for her undergraduate in Pre-Veterinary Science, and plans to continue her graduate program at Washington State University for Equine Veterinary Medicine.
Some outstanding achievements include a recipient for the 2022 University of Idaho Dean's List, recipient finalist for the Ms. Stars & Stripes scholarship, past vice president & president of the Ehcapa Bareback Riders Youth Board, alto saxophone, and bullet team rider for the Ehcapa Bareback Riders.
20, 2023
As a young girl, and year after year, Lexi always looked forward to attending the Lewiston Roundup; sitting on the sidewalk of Main Street, waving and smiling at the rodeo royalty as they passed by her in the parade and then in excitement when they would buzz by her in the arena during the rodeo. At the age of 4 this ignited her dreams and lit a fire in her that someday, she would ride down in that arena, in that dirt, and be a cowgirl just like them. Lexi began riding at the age of 6, training to run barrels, after asking her mom and dad for two straight years, day after day, for a horse. At the age of 9, for her birthday, the dream of every girl happened and she got her very own horse. This is the very same horse that you will get to see Lexi riding this
year, a Palomino Quarter Horse by the name of Pally.
Lexi has used Pally in 4-H, FFA and for the last 10 years has been on a youth equestrian drill team, located in Nampa, known as the Ehcapa Bareback Riders. Lexi credits this club and family organization for being what shaped her into the horsewoman she is today. While riding for the Ehcapa Bareback Riders, she learned the ultimate bond between horse and rider in which she performed with her team for PRCA rodeos all over the United States riding bareback and bridleless doing several drill maneuvers, riding at liberty and even soaring over jumps. It is this bond that Lexi has with Pally that has given her the confidence to merge her childhood dreams with her
experience to now be able to mentor boys and girls; to show them that with grit comes glory. If you set a goal or have a dream and work hard towards it, nobody can ever hold you back! Life is too short to be hindered by the what-ifs.
Lexi would like to thank everyone who has helped her along this journey to become a Queen of the Lewiston Roundup because surely she wouldn't be here without them. She would also like to give a special thank you to all of the Lewiston Roundup Association for making this year possible, Director Jamie Canning, and Royalty Chaperone Athena Ells for all of their dedication to us.
Lexi is thrilled to be representing the Lewiston Roundup this year.

WILL RASMUSSEN
A smooth, easy-listening voice, solid knowledge of rodeo, and a style that is both entertaining and informative, are the mix of elements that make Will Rasmussen one of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s most popular Rodeo Announcers. His personal knowledge of the sport, sense of humor, and timing blend together for a quality presentation that enhances the rodeo and satisfies the fans. “I guess it’s my sense that you need more than just a rodeo,” he says. “People want to be entertained.” Will joins the Lewiston Roundup for his 19th year.
JJ HARRISON
JJ Harrison grew up in Okanogan, WA where his love for the rodeo began. He took his passion to college with him and joined the rodeo team as a bull and bronco rider at Washington State University. Harrison really established himself in Walla Walla. He was hired for his talents by The Beard Rodeo Company for a bull riding competition in Vancouver. Harrison taught science and social studies at Walla Walla middle school for eight years. After a few years of balancing teaching and rodeo, Harrison was forced to choose between the two. Harrison believes that his time in the classroom has influenced his witty and energetic act as a rodeo clown. What makes Harrison a good rodeo clown is the “off the cuff” stuff and spur of the moment quick wit that are his best attributes.
Stock Contractor Stock Contractor
After 30 years in the rodeo business, Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics is exploring new horizons yet again. Springboarding off his years as a rodeo contestant at the highest level of the sport, Ike Sankey combined what he had learned about rodeo as a business with his livestock skills and work ethic to create his vision of a rodeo company. Focusing not only on quality livestock, but also event production and spectator experience, Sankey Rodeo Company flourished. Over the years the company has been blessed with 4 Saddle Bronc of the Year PRCA awards, 12 PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year nominations and numerous PRCA
and Montana Circuit awards. Additionally, Sankey Rodeo Company livestock is featured annually at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and have been featured on ESPN, USA Today, Western Horseman and CMT. Over $225,000 is won on Sankey Rodeo Company livestock annually. In 2018 Sankey Pro Rodeo was awarded the prestigious “Remuda Award,” recognizing them as the predominant herd of bucking horses in the PRCA.
A family affair from the start, in 2013 Ike and Roberta welcomed son, Wade, and daughter, Ryan, in as full partners and, in 2018 Sankey Rodeo Company joined forces with renowned bull producers, Phenom Genetics.
Phenom Genetics was founded by Matt Scharping in 2007, but his isn’t your typical bull business story. Matt grew up on a small farm in Arlington, Minn., and after a successful career in the tool business, he began raising and hauling bulls full time in
2013. He partnered with former Minnesota Viking Jared Allen on Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team, and bought out Allen in January 2018. These days, Phenom Genetics raises and trains young bulls for bull competitions, and hauls bulls to PBR and PRCA events as well. Their stable of bulls includes PBR headliners Air Time and Magic Train, as well as four-time PBR Finals bull CBR World Champion Bucking Bull Hy Test.
Matt credits all of his success to hard work and the help of his family: wife Kelly, and children Lacey, Kameron, Kolten and Kiri, as well as his hired man, Cody Stinson, who is a huge part of the business.
Combining the legacy of Sankey Rodeo Company’s outstanding bucking horses with Phenom Genetics’ world class bulls and a committed focus on fast paced, exciting, family entertainment, Sankey Pro Rodeo is poised to expand the concept of what rodeo can be.

KALEB BARRETT
Kaleb, a licensed practical nurse in Missoula, knows what it’s like to have a couple thousand pounds of angry animal stomping on you. Barrett took up bull riding during his high school years in Whitehall. He attended the University of Montana to ride bulls and earn a degree and then focused on becoming a professional bullfighter and has been fighting bulls since 2007.
He was selected nine times to fight the Montana Circuit Finals. He is thankful to have two professional careers that allow him to help people in need.
CLAY HEGER
NATE JESTES
Nate was always drawn to the family ranch and the small farming community where his closest friends were from. Nate pursued his childhood dream of Aviation. and graduated from Montana State University with an Associates Degree in Aviation Technology.
During college, Nate was instilled with another life-long passion of Bullfighting. Nate was accepted into the PRCA and his career quickly accelerated. Throughout the last couple of years, Nate has had the opportunity to work and protect cowboys at some of the biggest rodeos in the industry. In 2016 and 2017 Nate was selected by the top 20 bull riders to protect them at the Wrangler National Finals.
The Lewiston Roundup Association is proud to announce LC Valley and Asotin local Clay Heger as our newest bullfighter at the 89th annual Lewiston Roundup.
Clay left home to pursue his passion as a bullfighter. Clay says “I’ve had many great opportunities in my career and have been blessed enough to be selected to work the RAM Southeastern Circuit Finals Rodeo multiple times, as well as the Ram Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo multiple times.”
“It’s also been an honor to make the National Finals Rodeo short-list, as well as being nominated as Top Five Bullfighters of the Year - the past six years! I’m very excited to come home and fight bulls at the Lewiston Roundup, a rodeo that helped grow my passion for the sport of rodeo!”

FRIDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 8TH
Wear a pink shirt to the rodeo on Friday! For each person that attends wearing a pink shirt, The Lewiston Roundup will donate $1 to local breast cancer programs so they can assist in providing financial and emotional assistance to area patients in need. Come help us raise money and prove that YOU too are TOUGH ENOUGH TO WEAR PINK!
Tough Enough To Wear Pink t-shirts will be sold at the Red Barn at North 40 for $20 ; more info at www.gqfoundation.org
