This week in September is more than rodeo. It’s about community and a way of life. Reflecting on this year’s theme, “FarmlandRootstoCowboyBoots” the Lewiston Roundup is a chance to come together, celebrate old friendships, and make new ones. The friendships with our national sponsors, local sponsors, and volunteers allowed the Lewiston Roundup Association to contribute over $60,000.00 to nonprofit organizations throughout the region. Relationships between you, our National and Local sponsors, and the Roundup board drive our organization’s and our community’s success.
Our commitment to our community and our fans can be seen front and center Saturday morning, September 10th, at 9:59 am. One of Lewiston’s longest-standing community events, “The Lewiston Roundup Parade,” through beautiful downtown Lewiston, features hundreds of entries throughout the region, bringing vital dollars to area Sincebusinesses.1935ourmission has not changed; we continue to bring you the best in PRCA Rodeo action in a facility we are all proud of. With the commitment from our Board, we remain one of the top PRCA Rodeos in the nation. We are proud members of the “Big 4 Rodeo Association” (EST 1948) which includes Kennewick Horse Heaven Round-Up, Walla Walla Frontier Days, your Lewiston Roundup, and Pendleton Round-Up.

Kicking it off with Slack Tuesday, September 6th, through “She’s Wild” performance Saturday night, September 10th, we’ll bring you “edge of your seat” excitement with top-ranked PRCA contestants and livestock. The Roundup is proud to include our local contestants in the rodeo tradition, with local barrel racers and young wool riders. These days Larry continues to be involved in the operation. Larry is 86 years old and still comes to the farm at 6:30 a.m. to bring the donuts and help get the crew started with their day.
Larry and his family are very honored that he has been chosen as Grand Marshall if the Lewiston Roundup. We are all excited to be a part of this year’s event.
Larry started to work when he was 6 for a local Chinese produce farmer at Spaulding, Lee Coons. They grew produce to deliver to local restaurants in Lewiston. He went to work for Meacham Land & Cattle during the summers.
Larry and his companion Debra Allen enjoy going to the grand kids’ ball games, watching the Zags and traveling south when they can.
LarryBoyerwasbornAugust8th,1935, at the neighbor’s house on Tom Beall Road. Larry joined four brothers, Bob, Bud, Jack and Jim, and later two more siblings came along, Carla and William.

GRAND MARSHALL LARRY BOYER
Larry met and married June Whipple in September of 1952 when he was 17 and she was 16. Larry got a job at PFI that fall so they moved to Clarkston and their son Steve was born in December.Whenthe sun came out in March, Larry couldn’t stand working at the mill. He went back to farming for Meacham’s. They moved into a farmhouse on Garden Gulch Road near Lapwai.
In 1961, Larry started delivering pea silage full time to dairies around the valley. He began his custom harvesting for others and rented some more farmland of his own. Times were tough. Larry got a job logging and worked as a laborer for Neal Builders, all while still farming and raising cattle on the side. They then added another daughter to the family when Casey was born. In 1968 he teamed up with Roy Maynard leasing his farmland and helping with his cattle while continuing the custom harvesting in the summer. By 1970 Larry and June farmed about 800 acres and added daughter number five when Jolee was born. In 1972 Larry and June were able to lease a large farm and would now be full timeTheyfarmers.thenpurchased a grocery store in Lapwai in 1977. June ran the store for two years while Larry continued to operate the farm as they raised six kids. In 1983, Larry and June built a new grocery store, restaurant, and gas station in Lapwai, which they helped run and manage. They were always very involved in the Lapwai community, school and all their children’s and grandchildren’s activities.Inthe mid 80’s Larry and June got much more involved in rodeo when their daughter Kelli married the owner of the four-time World Champion Bulldogging horse, Catfish. For many years many of the contestants of the Lewiston Roundup would come and stay with Larry and June during the weeks of the Big 4 rodeos in the area. Larry and June continued to attend every Lewiston Roundup and traveled to Oklahoma and Las Vegas each year for the National Finals. June passed away in 2014. Larry then moved to Lewiston but has continued to expand his farm and cattle operations with the help of many of his kids and grandkids who work for him.
In 1958 Larry and June bought their first house, about 35 acres of farmland and some pasture. Daughters Renee, Kelli, and Lori were added to their family in the comingLarryyears.andJune worked as a team raising a few cows and pigs while working for Meacham’s and hauling pea silage before and after work.
Larry lived on Tom Beall most of his school age years, except for about a year when their house burned down, and the family moved to the back of the Lisher’s Hardware store in Lapwai until they fixed up an old shed on the Tom Beall property where he lived until he got married.
Larry has six children, five daughters and one son. He has 12 Grandchildren, and 24 Great Grandchildren!

The 2021-22 Lewiston Roundup Queen is Niah Griffin. The 19 year old daughter of Ryan and Brandi Griffin. Niah went to High School in Troy Idaho, is certified in Phlebotomy and is now attending University of Idaho in Agriculture Business major and Vocal Performance minor. She would like to pursue her career in large animal veterinary medicine at Washington State University. Currently she is working at Palouse efforts in the arena and within the community. It will be an honor for her to represent the Lewiston RoyaltyRoundUpasQueenfortheCourtfor2022.

Loreals’ true passion is riding horses. She has been riding since she was 3 years old. She joined the Lewiston high school rodeo team where she participated in goat tying, breakaway, roping, poles and barrels. Loreal is a student at Lewis Clark State College where she plans to get an Associate’s Degree and then transfer to a University to attain a Bachelor of Science degree to be a veterinarian, specializing in equestrian science. As a young girl, Loreal would watch the Lewiston Roundup Royalty
experiencebarrelsMikehorseveryQueeninRoyaltyranstartgirls.onerunintothearenaandtoldherselfthatday,shewouldbeoneofthoseSheknewthatsheneededtoworkingonhergoalandshefortheChiefJosephFoundationandwaschosenasQueen2019.Shelearnedagreatdealasandtookthatresponsibilityserious.Sheboughtherfirst“George”fromherUncleandbegantraininghimforandbreakaway.Withnoinhorsetraining,she took the time to train with the help of Hahots Shebela, Karen Parvin, Tracy Hammond, Liz White, and MikeLorealEwing.began to work towards her goal of competing in rodeo and becoming a Lewiston Roundup Royalty Member. Loreal is the first Nez Perce Tribal Member to be a Lewiston Roundup Princess in 88 years. She hopes to inspire other enough,andyoungwomentofollowtheirdreamstoknowthatifyouworkhardyourdreamswillcometrue.

Phenom Genetics was founded by Matt Scharping in 2007, but his isn’t your typical bull business story. Matt grew up on a small farm in Arlington, Minn., and after a successful career in the tool business, he began raising and hauling bulls full time in 2013. He partnered with former Minnesota Viking Jared Allen on Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team, and bought out Allen in January 2018. These days, Phenom Genetics raises and trains young bulls for bull competitions, and hauls bulls to PBR and PRCA events as well. Their stable of bulls includes PBR headliners Air Time and Magic Train, as well as fourtime PBR Finals bull CBR World Champion Bucking Bull Hy Test. Matt credits all of his success to hard work and the help of his family: wife Kelly, and children Lacey, Kameron, Kolten and Kiri, as well as his hired man, Cody Stinson, who is a huge part of the business.
After 30 years in the rodeo business, Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics is exploring new horizons yet again. Springboarding off his years as a rodeo contestant at the highest level of the sport, Ike Sankey combined what he had learned about rodeo as a business with his livestock skills and work ethic to create his vision of a rodeo company. Harrison taught science and social studies at Walla Walla middle school for eight years. After a few years of balancing teaching and rodeo, Harrison was forced to choose between the two.
Harrison believes that his time in the classroom has influenced his witty and energetic act as a rodeo clown. What makes Harrison a good rodeo clown is the “off the cuff” stuff and spur of the moment quick wit that are his best attributes.
JJ HARRISON JJ Harrison grew up in Okanogan, WA where his love for the rodeo began. He took his passion to college with him and joined the rodeo team as a bull and bronco rider at Washington State University. Harrison really established himself in Walla Walla. He was hired for his talents by The Beard Rodeo Company for a bull riding competition in Vancouver.

KALEB BARRETT Kaleb, a licensed practical nurse in Missoula, knows what it’s like to have a couple thousand pounds of angry animal stomping on you. Barrett took up bull riding during his high school years in Whitehall. He attended the University of Montana to ride bulls and earn a degree and then focused on becoming a professional bullfighter and has been fighting bulls since 2007. He was selected nine times to fight the Montana Circuit Finals. He is thankful to have two professional careers that allow him to help people in need.

The Lewiston Roundup Association is proud to announce LC Valley and Asotin local Clay Heger as our newest bullfighter at the 88th annual Lewiston Roundup.
Clay left home to pursue his passion as a bullfighter. Clay says “I’ve had many great opportunities in my career and have been blessed enough to be selected to work the RAM Southeastern Circuit Finals Rodeo multiple times, as well as the Ram Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo multiple times.”
Nate was always drawn to the family ranch and the small farming community where his closest friends were from. Nate pursued his childhood dream of Aviation. and graduated from Montana State University with an Associates Degree in Aviation Technology. During college, Nate was instilled with another life-long passion of Bullfighting. Nate was accepted into the PRCA and his career quickly accelerated. Throughout the last couple of years, Nate has had the opportunity to work and protect cowboys at some of the biggest rodeos in the industry. In 2016 and 2017 Nate was selected by the top 20 bull riders to protect them at the Wrangler National Finals.
