MOSCOW-PULLMAN DAILY NEWS

2018 Pullman ArtWalk Bios Appaloosa Lace Guild: FRIDAY

ONLY FROM 3 – 6PM The Appaloosa Lace Guild was started in 1992 by a group of women with an interest and desire to preserve the art of handmade lace including bobbin lace, knitted lace, needle lace, tatting and crochet

Art-Sci Collaborative: This group

feels that art helps to communicate the insights produced by scientific inquiry and scientific discoveries inspire works of art. They explore the intersection of art and science, meeting each month to discuss art pieces that they have produced based on scientific inquiry and concepts. This is an opportunity for scientists to explore how concepts are communicated to society and for artists to develop new work based on a vital view of nature. All types of artistic “media” have been represented in the group, including paint, ceramics, fabric, digital, culinary and performance pieces

Roxanne Bohman: Artistic creativity

is behind the passion of Flowers! by Roxanne. An Alumni of the University of Idaho, graduating with degrees in Bachelor of Fine Arts, Graphic Design and Clothing, Textile and Design, being a florist is all about using her design skills. Design is her passion, her driving force for each and every arrangement. Color, texture, and movement along with who the arrangement is for inspires the outcome of each and every arrangement.

Loren Brown: Brown creates collages

focused on color, texture, and shape, and combines fragments of images that almost tell you a story. He recently completed a 100-day project, creating a collage every day. In his day job, he works as a psychologist at WSU.

Carrie Coen: Coen is a photographer in progress who is grateful to be able to enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and bring it to life with the camera. She balances her day job as a physical therapist and Rehabilitation Director at Pullman Regional Hospital with early morning and evening escapes to capture the best light to showcase the amazing landscapes around her. Dave Coyle: Coyle has spent equal parts of his life on both sides of the Cascades, settling in Pullman in 1995, where he resides with his wife and 3 children. From whimsical to steampunk fabulous, Coyle’s metal art will impress and amaze. Community Band of the Palouse:

Steven Devine: Devine is a local photographer specializing in portrait, outdoor, and action photography. He loves the energy that can be captured in a single photo, or the memory that it creates by preserving that moment in time. Randy Emerson: A visual artist for over 35 years, Emerson has concentrated mainly in the photographic arts. A graduate of Pullman High School and WSU, he then went on to receive his MFA in photography from the University of Florida, worked for Disney MGM Studios in Orlando on many different live shows. After returning to Pullman twenty years ago, he began working as an artist and contractor.

Community Band of the Palouse performs live music for the enjoyment and education of local community members while providing opportunities for life long musicians to share and grow their musical talents, as well as helping to preserve the community band tradition.

Girl Scout Troop #3211: Girl Scout

Meg Conley: As a water colorist, she

Graham Ballet Theater:Founded in

focuses on the beauty of the seemingly ordinary, using observations from her daily life as inspiration. Most of Conley’s work is bold and bright, utilizing a combination of watercolor and pen and ink. Her most recent works include multimedia collage and often have a sculptural quality.

Jacqueline Daisley:

Jacqueline started drawing at the age of 11 and kept drawing until she moved to paints. Although she didn’t intend to pursue art, it continued to follow her through life. She became a teaching artist and has 20 plus years of experience. Daisley now offers private painting lessons.

Troop 321 is hosting a kindness rock painting event as part of their Bronze Award. The girls have put in 20 plus hours each to research ideas, paint rocks and find host sites in Pullman. They would love to have you come and spread kindness with them! 2003 by Noreen Graham, Graham Ballet Theater provides excellent dance training to the community and also provides fine recreational programs. The Academy offers classes for ages three and up, and their goal is to develop and strengthen the artistry, technique, and confidence of their students.

Jefferson Elementary Art Docent Program: The Jefferson Elementary

Art Docent Program is a parent and volunteer run program at Jefferson Elementary School. It is designed to provide K-5 students additional art instruction and experiences in the classroom.

John Elwood: Elwood, local luthier and musician, has been handcrafting wooden instruments on the Palouse for

Robert Krikac: Krikac is an Associate

Professor of Interior Design. His current area of research and specialty is freehand sketching and its relationship to creativity in designing built environments. “Sketching is how I think, how I design, and I believe it is only with the ability to pictorially document the design process, that designers and architects are able to fully engage the creative process.”

Paul Kwon: Kwon

is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Washington State University. He is fortunate to be able

to travel frequently, which serves as inspiration for his photography. Perhaps due to his psychology background, he is particularly interested in photographs that evoke curiosity, thought, and emotion.

Rebecca Lloyd:

Schloss is the owner of JS Threads in Pullman and creator of whimsical polymer clay dragons. Schloss has been working with clay for almost 4 years.

Rod Schwartz: Theme: Buildings.

Born and raised in Chicago, Schwartz backed into a lifelong career in advertising in 1973. He came to the Palouse in 1979 to join the Pullman Radio Group as sales manager and today is its senior marketing specialist. Rod and his family operate Grace Broadcast Sales, providing syndicated short audio features to radio/TV stations across the U.S. and Canada,

and its creative services division for business and professional clients, FirstStrike Advertising. Rod has been an avid photographer since 1975. His photography website is PalousePics. com, and he has an online gallery at Viewbug.com/member/RodSchwartz.

Rhonda Skaggs:

Creative artist and teacher, Skaggs believes that art should be created because it’s fun and is appreciated not because it has monetary value. For ArtWalk, Skaggs is showing some of her ceramic vessels and her whimsical papier mâché creations. Her studio and classroom, Red Dog Art Room is located in the Gladish Center.

Pam Spens: Spens is a part time

potter in her home studio in Moscow. She makes both functional and nonfunctional works. Her focus is on products that are meaningful to people, and oftentimes will incorporate inspirational words, stones, carvings, weaving, Cougar themes, and various colors into her clay works. She also uses canine fur to leave impressions on raku-fired pots.

Henry Stinson: A near-death

experience with electrocution (behind his family’s living room couch at the age of five) left Stinson’s perception of reality forever altered. Moses went to the mountain and was touched by God. Stinson says that he was touched behind the plastic covered yellow couch of his parents’ home. That touch was enough to inspire reverence for all life and foster his artistic gift to see the sacred in the mundane. Whatever the origin, he has the singular ability to translate moments into paintings, making his work popular with private collectors both in the U.S. and abroad.

Scotty Thompson: Photographer,

recorder of the Palouse seasons and vistas, man of imagination and talents. Thompson’s spectacular photographs are taken throughout the landscape of Washington’s incredible Palouse Country.
