WELCOME RODEO FANS TO THE 83RD LEWISTON ROUNDUP!

Dear Rodeo Fans, Hello, my name is Mike Moser. From watching the rodeo as a kid in North Lewiston and now being on the board for over 10 years, I am privileged and honored to be the president of the 83rd Annual Lewiston Roundup. On behalf of the sponsors, volunteers, staff and my fellow directors, I want to welcome you to one of the best rodeos in the nation! We are extremely proud to be a part of the Big 4 Rodeos with Kennewick, Walla Walla and Pendleton. Back for more this year is the “infamous” JJ Harrison as our Barrel Man. Also returning is the (BFO) Bull Fighters Only competition after the Friday and Saturday nights performances. This year there is a new collaboration with the Clearwater River Casino and the Nez Perce Tribe. The Casino is promoting “A Day of Country” for Saturday starting with the downtown parade in the morning. Then gear up and go see country legend Collin Raye at the Casino’s Event Center that afternoon. Top off the day at the Roundup Grounds enjoying the Rodeo with the best cowboys and cowgirls in the world. The Nez Perce Tribe is helping to bring back Native history to the Lewiston Roundup. The rodeo’s Saddle Bronc performance will now be named the Jackson Sundown Saddle Bronc to commemorate the great Saddle Bronc rider and Nez Perce Tribal member, Jackson Sundown. Last year we were able to give back over $58,000 to area non-profit organizations which include the Gina Quesenberry Foundation, Special Olympics, LC Valley Lions Clubs and LCSC Athletics just to name a few. By being here this week and supporting rodeo with the Lewiston Roundup Association, we should once again reach our goal -----Thank you! I want to thank all of my fellow directors for supporting me and volunteering their time with blood, sweat and tears. Their dedication sometimes goes un-noticed. Please give these guys and gals a high five or hand shake when you see them! It’s just like they say………………………….. “She’s Wild!”

83rd lewiston roundup grand marshal Jim Luper Sr. Jim was born in San Diego, California in July of 1929, where his dad was a Shop Foreman at a Chrysler Dealership there. While in his early teens the family left San Diego for a farm west of Great Falls, Montana near Fairfield. In 44’, his dad’s health forced a move to Lewiston, where they had family. Jim graduated from Lewiston High School in 1947. After a short stint with Homelite, he took a job with Osterman Diesel working with electrical systems and equipment on both automotive and agricultural machinery. 1951 was the year that Jim met and married Josephine. That was the start of a family that ultimately consisted of six children, three boys and three girls. And a marriage that spanned 62 years, till Jo’s passing in 2013. They purchased Mohr and Lenz in 1956, changing the name to Carburetor and Electric. Jim and Jo operated the business until 1994 when they passed it to their sons. Even today at 87, he is still there, helping get it done. Community Service has always been part of Jim’s life with 4-H, Boy Scouts, Lewis Clark State College Advisory Board for Automotive and Bengal Boosters to name a few. In 1973 he joined the Lewiston Lions Club and for his first fund raising assignment with the club he was to take care of this “parking project” for the Lewiston Roundup. The Roundup grounds were in North Lewiston at that time and the parking lot consisted of 50 spaces. Parking was a dollar and when you filled them, you pulled up your stakes and strings and went home. Today there are approximately 1500 spaces and parking is at five dollars. That traffic is ushered in with up to three lines taking parking fees. Crews in the front lot, back lot, Handicap lot, and Gold Buckle lot all working together finish getting everyone parked. The Lewiston Roundup and Special Events have made it possible for the Lewiston Lions Club to provide, well in excess of a half a million dollars, back to the Community. Providing prescription glasses and sight conservation programs to those less fortunate. The Lewiston Roundup Association and Lewiston Lions Club have always held a special place in Jim’s life as well as his wife Jo’s, when she was here. To be part of these organizations that work to make this valley a better place to live. Jim would ask that you take a moment to thank all the people who work so very hard to put on these events, just to make a difference in other people’s lives and never get to see a Rodeo, but without whom it could not happen. 44 Years of Parking Cars…………Thank You

Do your part in making sure that material brought to Clearwater Composting is free of trash. You’d be surprised at the quantity of trash that ends up at Clearwater Composting. It is extremely difficult to separate garbage from yard waste. Some of the items we are finding include plastic bottles, particle board, hand tools, wire fencing, baling twine and clothing just to name a few. Materials that get by us are pulverized into “micro trashâ€? and end up in our finished compost! Please separate your trash before bringing it to Clearwater Composting or use the garbage cans at the drop o area.

Announcer & Barrel Man Will Rasmussen A smooth, easy-listening voice, solid knowledge of rodeo, and a style that is both entertaining and informative, are the mix of elements that make Will Rasmussen one of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s most popular Rodeo Announcers. His personal knowledge of the sport, sense of humor, and timing blend together for a quality presentation that enhances the rodeo and satisfies the fans. “I guess it’s my sense that you need more than just a rodeo,” he says. “People want to be entertained.” Will joins the Lewiston Roundup for his 16th year.

JJ HARRISON JJ Harrison grew up in Okanogan, Washington where his love for the rodeo began. He took his passion to college with him and joined the rodeo team as a bull and bronco rider at Washington State University. Harrison really established himself in Walla Walla, but didn’t expect his move to further his career in rodeo. “I’m a ball of energy that is quick witted and eager to find humor in every situation.”

Stock Contractor After 32 years in the rodeo business, Sankey Pro Rodeo is exploring new horizons yet again. Spring boarding off his years as a rodeo contestant at the highest level of the sport, Ike Sankey combined what he had learned about rodeo as a business with his livestock skills and work ethic to create his vision of a rodeo company. Focusing not only on quality livestock but also event production and spectator experience, Sankey Rodeo Company flourished. Over the years the company was blessed with 3 Saddle Bronc of the Year awards, 12 PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year nominations and numerous PRCA and Montana Circuit awards. Additionally, Sankey Rodeo Company livestock 18

is featured annually at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and have been featured on ESPN, USA Today, Western Horseman and CMT. Over $225,000 is won on Sankey Rodeo Company livestock annually. In 2013, Sankey Rodeo Company joined forces with renowned stock contractor Jeff Robinson to create Sankey Pro Rodeo. Jeff was born and raised in Mars Hill North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina. Combining the legacy of Sankey Rodeo Company’s outstanding bucking horses with Jeff Robinson’s world class bulls and a committed focus on fast paced, exciting, family entertainment, Sankey Pro Rodeo is poised to expand the concept of what rodeo can be.

BULLFIGHTERS Kaleb Barrett Kaleb became interested in rodeo when he was three years old watching it on TV. Kaleb attended the University of Montana to ride bulls and earn a degree. He then focused on becoming a professional bullfighter and has been fighting bulls ever since 2007. He recently was selected by the bull riders to fight the 2013 Montana Circuit Finals and was honored to protect them at the Montana Circuit Finals. He is very thankful to have two professional careers that allow him help people that are in need.

Nate Jestes Nate pursued his childhood dream of Aviation, becoming a Commercial rated pilot as well as a Certified Flight Instructor. During this time, Nate was instilled with another lifelong passion of Bullfighting. Nate was accepted into the PRCA in 2010 and his career quickly accelerated. Nate has had the opportunity to work some at of the biggest rodeos in the industry. Nate has also found a lot of success in freestyle bullfighting competitions. Even with his success in freestyle competitions, Nate says he takes the most pride in his cowboy protection. To Nate, the most gratifying part of his job is protecting others.

Josh Rivinius Josh found his true passion when he attended a rodeo school that offered bullfighting. He then developed the skills that would take him to the next level. He now provides one of the most important responsibilities in pro rodeo. Cowboy protection. Rivinius says every time cowboys and bullfighters leave the arena unharmed, it is a victory. He has worked the Pro Rodeo Tour Finale twice and is a mainstay at the College National Finals Rodeo. He has been selected 11X by the bullriders to work the Badlands Circuit Finals as well as 2 times to the Ram National Circuit Finals.

Take a look behind your light switch. You might be surprised at what you find. The business of energy production is more complicated than you might think. At Avista, we generate power from 8 hydroelectric projects, 7 thermal generation plants, and 58 wind turbines, then send it over 19,000 miles of distribution lines across 30,000 square miles to more than 300,000 customers. Each of our resources has its benefits; each meets a particular need. And each is critical in keeping our prices among the lowest in the nation. Maintaining and improving a massive infrastructure made up of pipes, poles, dams, turbines, and substations means that, every year, we invest hundreds of millions of dollars into our system. It’s all part of our commitment to provide reliable energy – both now and well into the future.
