WELCOME RODEO FANS TO THE 87TH LEWISTON ROUNDUP!

Dear Lewiston Roundup Rodeo Fans & Supporters; On behalf of the Board of Directors of Lewiston Roundup Association I cannot tell you how much joy it brings me to invite and welcome you and all the contestants to this year’s 87th Annual Lewiston Roundup. While the 86th Annual Lewiston Roundup did not quite go as we had set out planning for, we’ve finally made it with your support and encouragement. This past year and a half have made past dedications to our military members, First Responders and Wildland Firefighters even more impactful. We could not have made it without the commitment from the doctors, nurses and front-line workers who stepped up in this great nation’s time of need to serve. Similar to September 11, 2001, an anniversary that we will honor this year all day and night on Saturday, these people stepped up, came together selflessly and answered the call to help to be sure we can gather together once again in celebration. It goes without saying this year’s “Re-Ride” brings back a tradition to the Lewis-Clark Valley of top-level professional rodeo action. From Inland Cellular’s Xtreme Bulls, Clearwater River Casino’s Family Night, Tri-State Memorial Hospital’s Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night, to our Saturday North 40 Outfitters Patriot Night culmination, we strive to bring you edge of your seat action in the Idaho Central Credit Union Outdoor Arena, top entertainment, and a celebration every day and night that the community can be proud of. None of this would be possible without the dedication to success by past and the present Board of Directors and Roundup staff who are committed to bringing you nothing but the best! Our heartfelt thanks to the over 700 volunteers from different community organizations and local businesses who help make sure your rodeo experience will be first-class. From 1935 through today our mission has not changed; that we continue to bring you the best in PRCA Rodeo action and a facility in which we are all proud of. With that commitment from our Board, we remain one of the top PRCA Rodeo’s in the nation and a proud member of the Big 4; Kennewick, Walla Walla, Lewiston, and Pendleton which was established in 1948 to support each organization and provide contestants a chance to be name the “Best in the Northwest” Big 4 Champion. We will bring you top, world ranked cowboys and some of the best stock in the nation. There will be faces you know and some new ones helping deliver the action and providing cowboy safety. Don’t miss a minute of the action, but if you do, be sure to check out the instant replay on the new high-definition videoboard. The Roundup is proud to include our local contestants in the tradition including local barrel racers and young wool riders. These up-and-coming stars of the sport are vital to rodeo, so even if you don’t know them by name, be sure to cheer them on as they come ready to entertain and give you their all when they compete for prizes and the title of Roundup Champion. From slack on September 7th through “She’s Wild” Patriot Saturday Night on September 11th we hope your experience and satisfaction is second-to-none. We’ve worked all year waiting for the days to grow shorter and summer start to dwindle, so sit back, relax and enjoy what the Lewiston Roundup has to offer. I hope that your time with us is a positive one. And remember it’s just like they say… “She’s Wild”. Again, on behalf of the Lewiston Roundup Board of Directors, I sincerely Thank You for being with us and making the 87th Annual Lewiston Roundup something special.

87TH LEWISTON ROUNDUP

GRAND MARSHALL DUANE & EADIE SAXTON When you move to Lewiston, rodeo can get into your blood. For Duane, he was two years old when he moved here, but his parents made sure he attended the rodeos and parades. His interest continued when his mother, Phyllis Saxton, who never missed a rodeo, was Roundup Chaperone in 1962. For Eadie, she moved here after marrying Duane in 1967, and it wasn’t long before she, too, became hooked. Their first involvement was through the Lewiston Jaycees selling concessions at the old rodeo grounds and sitting in the grandstands above the chutes. In 1971, Duane was asked to be on the Rodeo Board and eventually served as Rodeo Secretary for 16 years. As all registrations of the cowboys and collection of fees were done by hand, Duane would take the week off from work to be in the rodeo office. During the three days of the rodeo, Eadie would assist him in his booth with these tasks. Meeting the cowboys when taking their fees was definitely a highlight as well as traveling to Denver and then Las Vegas to buy the rodeo acts and a stock contractor. However, the biggest highlight for Duane was being a part of building the new rodeo grounds in Tammany. He recalls the many days and nights the board and other community volunteers helped make that a reality. When Duane was President of the Lewiston Round-Up Board, he spent THREE WHOLE hours brushing up on his almost, non-existent, riding skills to ride in the parade and the arena each night. Thank-you, Arlene Maynard. Eadie was the Royalty Chaperone in 1987 and thoroughly enjoyed her year with Karen, Kim, and Cheri and their parents. Her previous equestrian experience consisted of an afternoon ride in the Ozarks when she was a teenager. The girls finally succeeded in getting her on a horse and riding around the arena during rodeo week. Spectacular? No! Funny? Yes! Duane and Eadie have always been involved in community activities including Lewiston Jaycees where both held local and state offices while working Crazy Days, the Steelhead Derby, selling oranges door-to-door to raise funds to take needy children on a Christmas shopping trip, and many other events; working on Lewiston and State Jr. Miss programs; being a 4-H leader; belonging to PTA and supporting all their children’s activities including timing at track meets; teaching dancing; instructing karate and self-defense classes at Lewis-Clark State College, Walla Walla Community College, and the University of Idaho; and serving on the Foundation Board at Lewis-Clark State College. Their daughter, Tracy, lives in Lewiston, is an Athletic Trainer at Lewis-Clark State College, and is married to Mike Collins, currently Mayor of Lewiston and coach of the LCSC Cross-Country and Track teams. Their daughter, Kassie, is studying and playing volleyball for Walla Walla Community College and their youngest daughter, Emily, is a junior and competes in basketball and track for Lewiston High School. Son, Gregg and his wife, Sue, live in York, Pennsylvania, with their two children, Zane and Natalie. Both are college students with Natalie playing college volleyball. After graduating from the Naval Academy, Gregg flew F-18’s for the Marines, and is now a site manager for a large, construction company. Sue is a teacher and reading specialist. Duane was President of Paramount Pest Control and Liqui Lawn, plus Christmas Decor, until his retirement in 2005. Eadie retired from Aherin, Rice & Anegon as a bookkeeper/secretary in 2006. Since that time they have played a lot of golf, traveled, spent as much time as possible at the family cabin on the Selway, and filled their time this past COVID year playing a lot of cards. Both are very, very honored to receive this recognition and excited to be involved once again with the Lewiston RoundUp. They are looking forward to their “She’s Wild” week!

2021 ROUNDUP ROYALTY QUEEN AMIE GREENFIELD The 2020 Lewiston Roundup Queen, Amie Greenfield, is honored to return this year. The 18-year-old daughter of Dale and Stephanie Allen, as well as Steve and LeAnna Greenfield. Amie attends Lewiston High School as a Senior and is active in her music department. Amie’s past royalty experience lies with the Lewiston Roundup as she was one of the 2019 Princesses. Amie is very excited to come back and positively represent her community. She hopes to be her best self and be a role model for future generations to come. She looks forward to meeting new friends along the way. Throughout her year, she wants to increase the bond with her trusty horse, Rusty. She has had Rusty for the past six years and couldn’t ask for a better partner. Amie is ecstatic to be spending the year with her Princesses Shelby and Danaira. She is also pleased to be spending the year with her chaperones Cheynne and Christa.

PRINCESS SHELBY FORGEY 2020-21 Princess Shelby Forgey is the 19 year old daughter of Brad and Jody Forgey. Born and raised in Anatone, she helps her dad with the family’s farm and ranch, where she manages her own herd of cattle with her favorite sidekick, her dog Bex. Shelby is a freshman at Walla Walla Community College where she is working toward her degree in Agriculture Business. After obtaining her degree she hopes to follow in the footsteps of her grandmother and aunt, working in the crop insurance industry around the Pacific Northwest. As a Princess for the Lewiston Roundup, Shelby is looking forward to having the opportunity to be an advocate for the western heritage and the sport of rodeo. Knowing she’ll get to meet more people who are dedicated to the western way of life is just a small part of why she is so excited I get to spend the next year traveling throughout the Pacific Northwest with Queen Amie and Princess Danaira. Engaging with kids along the parade routes is one of her favorite parts to her role. The western way of life is something that she couldn’t see herself live without, and she is hopeful that she never has to.

PRINCESS DANAIRA CARPENTER One of the Lewiston Roundup’s princesses is Danaira Carpenter. She is the daughter of Kim Osborne and Glenn and Leilani Carpenter. She has a brother who is Devan Carpenter. Danaira is from Harvard, Idaho where she was born and raised. She is 19 years old and graduated from Potlatch High School in 2020. Trying out for Lewiston Roundup Royalty has been one of her biggest goals. She is a third-generation Lewiston Roundup princess. Her Mom, Kim, was Princess in 1995 and Grandma was princess in 1966. Her mom and grandma have been her main supporters throughout this experience in the horse world and she appreciates them so much! Prior to Lewiston Roundup she has held the royalty titles of Idaho state Omoksee Jr. Princess in 2012 and 2013. In 2014 she was National Saddle Club Jr. Princess. In 2017 she was the Cayuse Kids Saddle Club Queen. Being a Lewiston Roundup Princess, Danaira is very excited to travel to new rodeos with her 21 year old quarter horse mare Bailey, continuing the bond and friendship with the other girls, and being a part of the LRA.

ANNOUNCER & BARREL MAN WILL RASMUSSEN A smooth, easy-listening voice, solid knowledge of rodeo, and a style that is both entertaining and informative, are the mix of elements that make Will Rasmussen one of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s most popular Rodeo Announcers. His personal knowledge of the sport, sense of humor, and timing blend together for a quality presentation that enhances the rodeo and satisfies the fans. “I guess it’s my sense that you need more than just a rodeo,” he says. “People want to be entertained.” Will joins the Lewiston Roundup for his 17th year.

JJ HARRISON JJ Harrison grew up in Okanogan, WA where his love for the rodeo began. He took his passion to college with him and joined the rodeo team as a bull and bronco rider at Washington State University. Harrison really established himself in Walla Walla. He was hired for his talents by The Beard Rodeo Company for a bull riding competition in Vancouver. Harrison taught science and social studies at Walla Walla middle school for eight years. After a few years of balancing teaching and rodeo, Harrison was forced to choose between the two. Harrison believes that his time in the classroom has influenced his witty and energetic act as a rodeo clown. What makes Harrison a good rodeo clown is the “off the cuff” stuff and spur of the moment quick wit that are his best attributes.

STOCK CONTRACTOR

After 30 years in the rodeo business, Sankey Pro Rodeo is exploring new horizons yet again.

Springboarding off his years as a rodeo contestant at the highest level of the sport, Ike Sankey combined what he had learned about rodeo as a business with his livestock skills and work ethic to create his vision of a rodeo company. Focusing not only on quality livestock, but also event production and spectator experience, Sankey Rodeo Company flourished. Over the years the company has been blessed with 4 Saddle Bronc of the Year PRCA awards, 12 PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year nominations and numerous PRCA and Montana Circuit awards. Additionally, Sankey Rodeo Company livestock is featured annually at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and have been featured on ESPN, USA Today, Western Horseman and CMT. Over $225,000 is won on Sankey Rodeo Company livestock annually. In 2018 Sankey Pro Rodeo was awarded the prestigious “Remuda Award,” recognizing them as the predominant herd of bucking horses in the PRCA.

16

A family affair from the start, in 2013 Ike and Roberta welcomed son, Wade, and daughter, Ryan, in as full partners and, in 2018 Sankey Rodeo Company joined forces with renowned bull producers, Phenom Genetics. Phenom Genetics was founded by Matt Scharping in 2007, but his isn’t your typical bull business story. Matt grew up on a small farm in Arlington, Minn., and after a successful career in the tool business, he began raising and hauling bulls full time in 2013. He partnered with former Minnesota Viking Jared Allen on Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team, and bought out Allen in January 2018. These days, Phenom Genetics raises and trains young bulls for bull competitions, and hauls bulls to PBR and PRCA events as well. Their stable of bulls includes PBR headliners Air Time and Magic Train, as well as four-time PBR Finals bull CBR World Champion Bucking Bull Hy Test. Matt credits all of his success to hard work and the help of his family: wife Kelly, and children Lacey, Kameron, Kolten and Kiri, as well as his hired man, Cody Stinson, who is a huge part of the business. Combining the legacy of Sankey Rodeo Company’s outstanding bucking horses with Phenom Genetics’ world class bulls and a committed focus on fast paced, exciting, family entertainment, Sankey Pro Rodeo is poised to expand the concept of what rodeo can be.
