DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE Three Reasons Why Parks and Recreation are Essential Public Services Economic value, Health Benefits and Social Importance Just as public safety is considered essential service in the valley, parks are vitally important to establishing and maintaining quality of life, ensuring the health of our families, and contributing to the economic and environmental well-being of our community.
Tim Barker
Economic Value Lewiston Parks and Recreation programs generate revenue directly from fees and charges, but more importantly, provide significant indirect revenues to local and regional economies from sports tournaments and special events such as outdoor movies, music, and holiday festivals. Health Benefits According to studies by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, creating, improving and promoting places to be physically active can improve individual and community health. Social Importance Our services have recently been cited as one of the most important factors in a community-wide survey of Lewiston’s livability. What we offer through our park and recreation system provides a sense of public pride and cohesion.
Best Regards, Tim Barker LEWISTON PARKS AND RECREATION

Library Construction Update
The new year finds us sixty percent complete with the renovation project. January was an exciting month on the first floor! The past four months were filled with structural upgrades, fire sprinklers and other infrastructure related upgrades. All new walls have now been framed and the drywall crews are hard at work. The highlight of December was the installation of the new skylight in the core of the facility. Components for the new steel stair arrived in late December and the stair installation commenced on the 3rd of January. Exciting stuff!‌. The day lit stair to the second floor will become a key component of the library. In January we will also see the start of casework installation and the start of interior finish trim on doors, windows and other key elements in the space. Final infrastructure work will be completed and preparations will be made for the commencement of final finishes in February! The project has remained on schedule throughout the duration of the construction contract and we are excited to commence with the move to the new space in the spring.
