Border Days in Grangeville Salmon River Experience They first applied for their outfitter’s license in 1978, with the goal of providing the highest quality white water experiences available that were fun, safe and adventurous, while at the same time sensitive to the cultural and environmental needs of the river. Thirty-two years later, much has changed at SRE, but not their passion for affordable excellence and stewardship of the river, promoting responsible enjoyment of Idaho’s austere back country. Salmon River Experience invites you to join them at Riggins, Idaho, for a day (or more) of western white water excitement. Ride the waves in Time Zone, Tight Squeeze, Traps Creek and Black Rock just to name a few rapids. And no one puts on a better riverside deli lunch than SRE with plenty of fresh deli meats, cheeses, breads, salads, vegetables, chips and cookies. In addition to shorter trips at Riggins, SRE also offers deluxe all-inclusive white water vacations on the Salmon River’s Lower Gorge and Hells Canyon of the Snake River. Whether looking for a splashy one day getaway or deluxe wilderness vacation, SRE invites you to check them out. You can find them online at www.salmonriverexperience.com or call them at 800.892.9223.

Pierce 1860 Days will prove to be one of the most fun events of 2011
Hells Gate State Park
The entertaining Wild West re-enactment street shoot-out is one of the most lively, entertaining events during the annual Pierce 1860 Days. Be sure to set aside August 5, 6 and 7 to visit historical Pierce, and the beginning of the next 150 years and beyond. As always, there will be the Berry Bake-Off, the Dutch Oven Cook-Off, Kick-Off in the Park Barbecue, the ever-growing 1860 Days Parade, Street shoot-outs, the 1860 Days Auction (usually a load of firewood logs and more) and new games and contests for all ages. The Kids’ Fishing Derby, Pie-Eating Contest, Water Balloon Toss all add to the fun. Be sure to purchase tickets for the drawings for a 1/2 oz. gold miner charm and an elegant stainless steel barbecue. This year, Shiloh Sherrard of Troy, Idaho will be entertaining the barbecue crowd Friday with her country repertoire. On Saturday night, the Fabulous Kingpins of Moscow will rock the town at the Street Dance in the middle of Main Street. Other important events that weekend will be the Lions Club Breakfasts, an ATV Fun Run and Country Church. Main Street will be lively with numerous food and craft vendors for all tastes and interests. To enjoy this old-town celebration, it is wise to make reservations early for lodging or camping. Please visit www.pierce-weippechamber.com or call 208-464-1083 for event information.
