FOR T H E L OV E OF TEXTILES Creating a beautiful space is all about the details. It starts with the materials – fabrics make all the difference. Here, we explain our love of textiles. And why they matter.

A C OT TO N CASHMERE CRUSH Combining two good things makes something great. At Lexington, we love cotton and cashmere – cotton because it’s durable, reliable, cooling and probably the most versatile natural material out there. And cashmere for its pure tactility, softness, warmth and luxurious feel. Combined, they create soft knits with fantastic drape. Bringing together responsibly sourced cotton and the finest Mongolian cashmere fibers results in a durable, light fabric. A material for fall – but really, one for any season. The soft feel comes from skillful spinning by our expert craftspeople. And it’s machine washable. That fact alone is worthy of a big crush. WONDERFUL WOOL First, some wonderful facts about wool. There are many different types, including cashmere, mohair and merino, but the most widely used is sheep’s wool. It’s soft on your skin and holds heat well; it’s also reassuringly comfortable to feel and smell – the perfect material for fall. Wool is also wonderfully intelligent: it can absorb up to 30 30% % of its own weight in moisture without becoming wet or damp, and yet it dries faster than cotton. There are also small, natural air pockets found between overlapping sections of wool fibers, which help keep you warm through the fall and winter months. How wonderful. FOR T H E L OV E OF TENCEL & S AT E E N S T Y L I S H S AT E E N AND TERRIFIC TENCEL The combination of style and comfort is never as important as nighttime — or, perhaps, daytime for those who love to nap. Sateen is made from cotton and is a classic bedding fabric, for good reason. It wrinkles less than pure cotton, it’s easy to iron, and softens with use. It also has a slight luster thanks to a unique weave that lends a luxurious look and feel. Tencel, also referred to as lyocell, is a natural fiber that comes from fast-growing trees such as eucalyptus and beech. It’s also an old, familiar friend in the Lexington bedding collection; both soft and strong, and, like sateen, easy to care for, with less washing and ironing needed than cotton. Our sateen and Tencel are long-lasting — they get better the more you sleep on them. THE MOST STYLISH SEASON Lexington celebrates the period that greatness is really created in the summer. comes after summer, before the winter Besides, style really takes a backseat to holiday reveals its subtle, stylish magic. simply showing more skin. A full understanding and appreciation of fall actually starts with the season leading up to it. Yes, we all love summer — the sun, the beach, the swimming, the outdoor dining and all that. But summer is a bit, well, obvious. Few people would object to a day on the beach, which means it’s less interesting, less nuanced. It’s a time for pressing pause and switching off — summer is pure pleasure — but no

Fall, on the other hand, is for getting things done, which makes us truly value our days off even more. There’s less stress and fewer demands when it comes to big events. The perfect fall day requires no more than a walk; after that, we’re happy to simply stay indoors and enjoy our homes: an open fire, something seasonal and delicious to eat, and a good book. Maybe a few friends, or a loved one — but fall is also a good season for solitude.
As the temperature drops, our thoughts also become clearer, and as everyone knows, nothing is more attractive than intelligence — especially when paired with a great outfit. Fall is when we get our favorite garments back on, after a season of semi-nudity. Crisp shirts, soft knits, maybe a smart, wool blazer or shirt. Why not add gloves, a warm, cashmere hat and a matching scarf? And proper shoes, of course — shoes for walking and breathing. Fall is a season where materials matter, both for keeping warm and looking good. That’s the magic of the season.

JUST A PERFECT DAY MY KIND OF FALL We asked some of our Lexington friends what they love most about fall, how they love spending the days, and their seasonal essentials. WE MET WITH: M A L L O RY A N D TO M
How would you describe your relationship with fall? T O M : I am, without question, a winter person. My favorite time of year is the magical few months between late summer and the new year – especially in my hometown of London. I like it because the city feels as though you’ve stepped into a movie scene or gone back in time. Of course, the capital is a lovely place all year round but in fall, London just feels right! M A L L O R Y : When it is finally spring and summer time and we get to live outside with all the beautiful flowers and the sound of birds I get a little worried thinking about how soon it will be fall and winter again. The funny thing is that as soon as we reach September and the leaves slowly start falling and the smell of fall is in the air I feel so excited for the cozy times ahead! Is there a specific place you associate with the season? T O M : I am a sucker for an autumnal park walk. On a crisp and bright morning, there’s no better way to start the day. When I think of fall, I hear leaves crunching under foot, I see open expanses lined with naked trees, I see hats, scarves and woollen gloves clutching hot coffee. M A L L O R Y : Burgundy, France, where my family has a house. Taking a long forest walk, then enjoying a cheese platter and wine in front of the fireplace.

What’s a typical fall food for you? Is there a meal you particularly love during fall? T O M : For me, the perfect fall food is a good old fashioned pub lunch! After a long walk, nothing hits the spot like a hearty pie or roast dinner – especially when combined with an open fire and a pint of bitter! M A L L O R Y : Red wine, rooibos tea. My boyfriend’s pasta dish with wild mushrooms. And of course roasted pumpkin. What would be on your playlist on a perfect fall day? T O M : I don’t know about the whole playlist, but it would certainly include ‘California Dreamin’’ by The Mamas & the Papas. M A L L O R Y : The Tallest Man on Earth (all of his songs). Any books, films or tv shows you especially love reading or watching in the fall? T O M : Sadly, I don’t have any that come to mind but it’s the only time of year I can sit through an episode of Countryfile on BBC without dying of boredom! M A L L O R Y : I’m looking forward to watching Disney movies. Even though my daughter won’t be watching because she’s too young, it’s more for me because I’m getting back in touch with my own childhood now that I am a mother. And finally, what’s the one piece of clothing you must have this fall? T O M : I’m very much looking forward to when I can go out and invest in a nice woolly hat! As a kid, I was always very anti-hats but it seems I’m at a point in my life now where a warm hat genuinely makes me happy. Rock ’n’ roll, right? M A L L O R Y : My knee-high brown boots and a white oversized sweater.

T H E C O L OR B L UE IS CL EA R LY PA RT O F T H E L E XINGTON D NA . Blue is the color of the sky, and the Atlantic Ocean unfolding from the American East Coast and the Hamptons – the main source of inspiration for Lexington. Blue is the American flag, and also a delicious blueberry pie. Many countries and cultures also claim blue as theirs: Greece, Sweden and the Nordics, France, and India, to name a few. From navy to sky blue, it’s a color almost every person looks good in. Who doesn’t look great in a blue shirt? Whether it’s slightly wrinkled or perfectly pressed doesn’t matter – it’s equally flattering.
32
Blue is probably the most versatile color when it comes to interiors, and it can work wonders for your home. Paint the walls with it, choose a blue sofa, cushions, tableware, bed linen or even tiles – though perhaps not all at once. Blue dominates the work of all our favorite painters: Picasso’s best period, David Hockney’s swimming pools, Jasper Johns’ Americana. Yves Klein even liked the color so much he dedicated a lifetime of works to it. Blue is also present in popular culture, from Elvis’ ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ to the iconic movie Blue Velvet to Kind of Blue,
one of Miles Davis’ best-known albums and a perfect soundtrack for fall. Blue can be mixed and matched with other colors. It looks amazing with clean, crisp whites, but also goes really well with other blues, as well as hues such as red, yellow, and even green. It’s also a color that ages and fades beautifully with wear and tear. Note! for the perfect blueberry pie recipe – please visit lexingtoncompany.com

THINGS TO FA L L F O R Some of our products evoke that must-have feeling – whether it’s their color, the way they look, or the way they’ve been designed. Often, though, it’s the material that makes all the difference.
How to choose from so many textures? Here are some hints. If you like cool, crisp sheets, you should sleep in poplin. If you like a softer texture, try linen. If you prefer a little heft, choose pinpoint oxford. If you tend to feel chilly, choose flannel. If you want a more sustainable fiber, use Tencel. And if you want to experience that luxury hotel feeling, go for sateen. All are equally restful and luxurious. Here are some other materials that will enrich your fall.
corduroy has evolved and been refined, both in terms of the material and how it’s used, and it now appears in more and more products and garments. Even though we love a classic corduroy pant or blazer, this season, we’re looking forward to wearing it in something more unexpected, like a versatile shirt. CASHMERE BLENDS
Soft, smooth and sumptuous – velour and velvet are the fabrics of dreams. Velour has long fibers on the front and terry loops on the back, while velvet has shorter fibers on the front and a fabric backside. Both are woven, so patterns and graphics that we design onto a product made from velvet or velour will always stay clear, visible and beautiful.
Cashmere is a fiber that you can mix with basically anything. Wool, flannel and cotton are the most common blends, adding structure and warmth to the guaranteed softness of cashmere. Thanks to its luxurious feel, cashmere is a fiber that elevates other materials — no wonder it’s so highly sought after and craved all around the world.

Sometimes, a lighter cotton is what you’re in the mood for. Pinpoint oxford is a slightly thinner, lighter version of classic oxford fabric where the yarn is twisted in one direction, which creates the smooth-feeling texture. The thickness of pinpoint lies somewhere between an oxford and a poplin. It is the perfect fabric for the all-occasion shirt — light and super comfortable to wear (or to sleep in), with the casual feel you want from an oxford, but with added elegance thanks to its thinner material. It’s also one of our most popular bedding fabrics, available in many different designs and colors — a collection so extensive, it is unique to Lexington. Our premium leather accessories collection is characterized by timeless design; each piece requires a skilled craftsperson to work the leather, making it softer and more flexible, supple, and fuller-bodied. Our leather is also environmentally friendly, thanks to the tannins found naturally in tree bark, which we use to give each of our leather products a rich, unique and beautiful patina that ages wonderfully over time. And, of course, there’s nothing quite like breathing in the wonderful aroma of leather, especially in the fall.

DENIM
C O R D U R OY Corduroy is the essential fall material that evokes the countryside life in Great Britain, which is where this durable material originated and was first constructed. Corduroy is made by weaving extra sets of fiber into a base fabric to form vertical ridges called wales. These wales are built so that clear lines can be seen when they are then cut into pile. Over the centuries,
34
Lexington is associated with denim jeans, shirts, and jackets, as well as sheets, aprons and other kitchen items. Our denim features a traditional denim twill weave that is made from the finest cotton, then yarn dyed with indigo dye in a specific shade of blue before it is woven together with a white cotton yarn. And just as you want denim to last, our denim is a strong, heavy duty and sustainable fabric that simply gets better as the years go by.

Timeless is probably how you’d describe Lexington in one word. It means we take a long-term view of everything we make and do. When you buy one of our products, it should be timeless and last, both in style and in quality. Timelessness means clothing that can last a lifetime.
36
Our pieces are not only meant to last, but to accompany a full and curious life. Clothing for leaning in, not just passively coasting by. At Lexington, we reinvent the classics. For us, it’s less about coming up with the next big thing, and more about
perfecting what already exists – sharpening shapes, revising fits, and updating materials and colors. The core, the key idea behind each garment, existed long before Lexington came along – for decades or even centuries. We also create pieces to extend your

wardrobe, rather than simply replace. To make it more versatile. We believe that a good wardrobe should be built over time, slowly progressing with each additional piece. And that if you invest in things that last, you’ll discover that you don’t need much to look sharp as you journey through life’s many occasions. You’d be surprised how far you can go with good jeans, knits, a button-down

shirt, a classic overcoat or a trench in beautiful, timeless hues – think khaki, blue, and white. For him, maybe add a duffel coat and a varsity sweater to swap out the wool sweater on more casual days. And for her, simply add a few accessories – a scarf, sunglasses, high heels and flats – and you’re good to go, anywhere, anytime. Let’s not confuse classic style and
timelessness with nostalgia, though. At Lexington, we always look to the future and to the long term: we believe we’re here to make what’s already great even better, all the time. That encapsulates our approach to sustainability, too. After all, the most sustainable way of dressing is to buy what lasts, and to care for the planet by caring for what you wear.
