We Care Grants
This fiscal year, the Foundation awarded more than $634,900 in We Care Grants to departments and facilities throughout the hospital’s network. ———————————————— These programs contribute to the wellness, peace of mind and dignity of patients and their families.
CARDIAC CARE Programs to eliminate barriers between heart patients and a full recovery. Tobacco Cessation for Primary Care Tobacco-cessation resource kits are given to patients who actively smoke and show interest in quitting during their urgent and/or primary care visit.

CVICU Post Surgical Pillow
This program provides open heart surgery patients with a seat belt pillow following surgery.

Female open heart surgery patients receive a specially designed bra following surgery.

Freedom from Smoking
This grant funds a smoking-cessation program for anyone in the community who would like to attend. It is a free eight-week program offered four times per year.

Cardiac Rehab Fund
This fund removes financial barriers for patients to complete cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation.

CARE Channel
The C.A.R.E Channel features relaxation programing specifically for inpatients to reduce anxiety and assist with sleep.

Pulmonary Rehab T-Shirts
These T-shirts are for patients who complete an allotted number of exercise sessions.

Cardiac Rehab Water Bottles
Water bottles serve as another incentive for patients who attend all offered education classes for Cardiac Rehabilitation.
MOTHER/BABY CARE Programs and services to help improve the overall health and well-being of our new babies and their families. Safe Sleep for Newborns This grant provides all newborn infants with a Halo® SleepSack® Swaddle for their comfort and to reduce the risk of suffocation and/or entrapment of the infant.

Special Care Nursery Bags
These care packages give extra support to patients admitted to the Special Care Nursery and their parents.

Infant CPR Kits
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation kits for families allow them to learn lifesaving procedures before taking their Special Care Nursery infant home.

Kisses for Hugs
The Kisses system immediately links mom and baby electronically at the time of birth and emits a pleasant tone to reassure the mother that she receives her own baby.

Doula Services
This grant supports the training of current and future doulas.

Parents receive baby supplies at discharge when a social worker identifies a need.

Perinatal Loss Program
This grant funds clinical and programmatic educational needs for Labor and Delivery staff.
PATIENT CARE Programs that enhance hospital services in every area of patient care and provide hope throughout the hospital’s network. Project Prescription and Transportation This program provides medication and transportation vouchers to patients in the Lexington Medical Center Network of Care who are uninsured or underinsured.

This grant is for the purchase of two new buses for the Child Development Center at Lexington Medical Center.

This program provides non-medical in-home care to high-risk patients who have been discharged from the hospital.

This project provides blood pressure monitors for those who have had a stroke or are at high risk of having one.

With the Diabetic Supply grant, patients at Lexington Medical Associates, Lexington Medical Center Batesburg-Leesville and Lexington Medical Center Swansea have access to diabetic supplies.

This program provides branded eyeglass cases to surgical and procedural patients.

Breathe Easy
Breathe Easy provides home nebulizer machines to medically in-need uninsured patients in rural health settings.
Diabetes Education The purpose of this grant is to provide educational and motivational materials for underserved rural populations to optimize health behavior for diabetes control.

Using a Doppler, clinicians make a recording of a patient’s heartbeat to be placed in a teddy bear.

ED Hospitality Cart
This cart provides patients and their loved ones with tokens and items to assist them throughout their stay in the Emergency department.

Lymphedema Supply Fund
This fund provides uninsured and underinsured lymphedema patients with compression wraps.

Clothing for the ED
Patients who do not have the appropriate clothing for discharge benefit from this program.
CANCER CARE Programs that help cancer patients focus on their treatment and survivorship. Exercise is Medicine Working directly with Health Directions for funding, this program provides exercise (specialized training) for individuals with cancer, chronic disease and diabetes, among other conditions.

Every newly diagnosed breast cancer patient receives a Lucinda Bear. This program started in 1998.

This support program helps cancer survivors transition from active treatment to post-treatment care.
