We need to start by defining a few things‌ What is a variable?

Circle the variable in each of these examples:

+ 5 = 15

a+2=8

-7=3

x – 4 = 10

= So one side has to equal the other side, right? To make both sides equal, we have to use operations ( + - x  ). What we do to one side, we must do to the other. So… Solve the equation x – 20 = 3

Solve the equation p + 5 = 12

Evaluate the expression for x = 20

Evaluate the expression for x = 5

x–3

25 + x

Solve the expressions to find the corresponding letters for the blanks – this will help you solve the secret phrase on the bottom of the page! The space below is for you to solve each expression.
