1920s FASHION On Friday 5 June, your Guild will be transformed into a party fit for Gatsby himself. Celebrating the glitz, glamour and decadence of the Roaring Twenties, the Summer Ball will be your chance to toast the end of another vintage year. We’ve put together a lookbook to help get you into the spirit of the era of jazz and speakeasies, and provide some style inspiration for the night. Take Summer Ball style inspiration from films set in 1920s, such as The Great Gatsby, Chicago, Bugsy Malone and Some Like it Hot. These movies show off the allure and glamour of the Roaring Twenties, which we’ll be recreating in the Guild on the night. Don a string of pearls or a bow tie and come and dance the Charleston in our dazzling 1920s wonderland.

Fashion In Movies
For women, the 1920s represented fashion freedom. Gone were the restrictive shapes of previous decades, as Vogue showcased a modern shape, with gowns adorned with greater detail, including fringing, feathers and sequins. Epitomised by the image of the flapper, women were free to wear their hemlines, and their new sharper bob hair, shorter. Men’s fashion was characterised by sharp suits cut to fit more comfortably than in past eras. Trouser legs widened as fabric became more available in the boom years, and tailoring was important. For authentic twenties style, no look would be complete without a hat, bow tie and moustache.
