Pier Workplace Renovation - Programming and Interiors Remodel

This project was the renovation of a nationally listed historic pier in San Francisco was for the headquarters of our client. Dilworth Eliot lead the programming studies before the design effort.

The goal of the renovation was to break down organizational silos and significantly increase employee collaboration in a facility that is rendered more transparent and accessible. Organizationally, the leaders believed the staff didn’t have enough chance encounters in which to discuss ideas. A central kitchen was designed to act as one of the zones where this might occur. The new double height lounge area adjacent to the kitchen served to open the space up to more daylight.

In coordination with the client’s long-term leasing strategy, MEP systems were re-designed to significantly improve occupant comfort while reducing operational expenses.

The structural impact was kept to inside the pier, as working outside (underneath) the pier would have created significant coastel permits and fees.
