PART-1: STUDENTS I have been a contract science teacher since the 6th June of the year as a replacement for an outgoing teacher for class VIII students. On my first day of teaching, I tried to get introduction from my students and their own perspectives on the subject I taught i.e. Science and Technology. Many of them responded me that they don’t like science and don’t want it to be a backbone subject for their career. On the other hand, they really lack knowledge about their own career and purpose to studying. Most of them are in their own imaginative world and lacks understanding about what is happening in the world at large. Code of conduct in all the classes is satisfactory except class VIII ‘B’. Students in class VIII ‘B’ are brilliant, but I faced discipline problems. On the other side, all of the students do follow my teaching and other activities. I do excuse some misconducts and inattentive nature of my students as they are under developmental period. Most of them fall under adolescence age and are little sensitive, emotional, shy, etc. I tried my best to teach in different methods with application of modern techniques as well as traditional tactics. Following are the detailed report. ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE(GENERAL ASSESSMENT) CLASS VIII ‘D’ students are brilliant, intelligent and hard working except few who lack seriousness towards studies. Majority of this class are good and hardworking. Most of students strive to improve their awareness about the subject and many of them ask numerous questions on question. Most of them keep themselves busy in their academic activities. Many of them do their work on time and follow my teaching and other activities. Class VIII ‘P’ students are average of all the three classes. Some of them lack interest and seriousness toward studies. Some of them are matured and are aware about importance of education. But, few of them don’t pay much attention even on their compulsory syllabus. Good thing about the class is that they do ask relevant questions and sometimes they show extraordinary energy towards learning some interesting topics. I observed that this class students can do much better than what they have working so far. Some of them can be excused for their poor performance due to their inability and mental weakness. But, among them few can be exemplary to the other classes. Class VIII ‘B’ students are inattentive and lack seriousness on their studies. All most 95% of them are unaware of importance of studying. Most of them don’t study much even I enforce them in different methods of teaching. A very good thing about the class is that they bring class works and home works on time during assessment. Sometimes, I feel that formative assessment have been savior for some of them from failing in the subject. Half of the class may have passed in addition of marks obtained from formatives.

STRENGTH (GENERAL ASSESSMENT) CLASS VIII ‘D’ I found this class a special and could teach properly. All the students behaved well and are self disciplined having enthusiasm to learn from me. Majority are brilliant and intelligent. They understand any topics quickly and always have questions after every stop during teaching. I appreciate for their continuous hard work devoted in understanding the subject. Few students don’t show interest occasionally. 1

CLASS VIII ‘P’ and ‘B’ Class VIII ‘P’ and ‘B’ are little deviated from devoting time on their studies. Many of them are not interested in studies. Few students of these two classes are good in their studies. Compared to class VIII ‘B’, VIII ‘P’ is much better and wise in paying attention towards the subject. Many of good students do perform much better than some students of the best class.

WEAKNESSES: (GENERAL ASSESSMENT) Many of students have poor English proficiency. They are not able to write proper English. Spelling mistakes and structure of English aren’t good. I have stressed a lot on the importance of English language. For class VIII ‘B’, I do face discipline problems. This weakness of class has affected some of good students from this class who sometimes show expression of inability to adapt with those undisciplined students. PART II: TEXT BOOKS SUITABILITY OF THE CURRENT TEXTBOOKS USED My teaching is strictly based on NCERT textbook. For the students, there are two different textbooks one of NCERT and other of ‘NICE’ company published NCERT based textbook with answered inscribed along with textbook questions. I have objection for the textbook published by the company as some of answered I found aren’t correct. SERVICEABLE OR NOT. Most of the textbooks are in good condition. It would be better if all the students get NCERT textbook rather the company published textbook. SUFFICIENT FOR THE STUDENTS OR NOT: All the students have one copy of textbook either (Some used company published book). YOUR GENERAL ASSESSMENT ON THE TEXTBOOK: For improving note making skill and reading skill, I enforce every student to use their textbook. Text books are handy all the time for allowing students to do class work and homework. LIST OF REFERENCE AND SUPPLEMENTARY BOOKS USED DURING THE YEAR: The references that I used are; a. Full mark reference for class VIII Science b. E-books related to certain topics c. Internet (Differs based on topics). TEACHING AIDS AND RESOURCE EQUIPMENT: Sufficient In School or Not: For some experiments, laboratory equipments are not working properly. Maintenance of instrumentation seems to be necessary. Some advanced apparatus in lab should be allowed to handle by students. Most of audio visual disc in science laboratory are out dated and aren’t suitable for my students.

3

Teaching aids used by me: Some of the teaching aids used during the year are;  Multimedia player which can play most format of video related to subjects after downloading from internet.  Laboratory kits and instruments.  Charts  Television in the laboratory. What more is needed to strengthen your teaching: LCD projector in science laboratory to introduce modern technique of teaching is important. It will be handy to introduce an interactive learning which can be better for my students to understand.

PART III: TEACHING METHOD TEACHING METHODS USED IN THE CURRENT YEAR: Some of the successful methods used are:  Teaching is done on the basis of child centered learning approach.  Given notes strictly based on NCERT text book and explanation is done for the given notes.  Printed notes on note are given to students for reference.  Notes are also given online using blog to tune the students to do googling works. ANY SPECIFIC STRATEGIES APPLIED TO DEVELOP A PASSION FOR LEARNING: Interesting activities or demonstrations are done to students with aim of drawing attention of students. They are interested about activities and try to learn bits by bits. MOST EFFECTIVE METHOD OR METHOD YOU USED THIS YEAR: Performing experiments and allowing students to perform some experiments by themselves. Handling notes for every chapter and giving chapter tests along with continuous assessment of notebooks. CHANGES YOU WANT TO INTRODUCE IN YOUR METHOD NEXT YEAR: I would follow same method of my teaching except little improvement. Introduction of interactive learning will be a new endeavour for the next year.

PART IV: ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION Formative Assessment (I, II, III and IV) are conducted as per rule introduced as CCE by CBSE. Each formative assessment consists of 10 marks each. In each formative, chapter tests, viva voice, practical are conducted and projects works are given along with regular checking of student’s notebook is done. Summative Assessment (I and II) S.A I = 30% of marks scored in the term S.A II = 30% of marks scored in II term F.A (I, II, III, IV) = 10+10+10+10 = 40 S.A (I and II) = 30+ 30 = 60 100

PART V: DISCIPLINE AND GUIDANCE YOUR METHODS OF GUIDANCE:  Individual counseling is done to some students  Class counseling is done to entire class as per request.  For some needy students, individual guidance is provided during free time. TYPES OF STUDENTS INDISCIPLINE:  Some are extra active in the class and never settles down.  Some are very passive and writes slowly.  Some fall sleep in the class. WHAT IS NEEDED TO IMPROVE STUDENTS MOTIVATION TO LEARN?  Need to be more open and should find out qualities of particular student and then should guide accordingly.  Small token of appreciation have to be given for any achievement.  Should devote time for frequent advices and counseling.  Guiding them through exemplary figures that are familiar to them. VALUE EDUCATION TEACHER’S GUIDANCE: I have been very active in giving information with real life situation as an example to my students. I consider career counseling as prime goal of teaching. I guided my students to excel in academic and co-curricular activities without forgetting future career they have planed. STUDENTS VALUES: Many students are out spoken and close to me. They show humble respect and listen to me. Few students do have little annoying discipline.

PART VI: CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES THAT I WAS APPOINTED/ELECTED THIS YEAR. I helped and guided preparing model for inter-TCV school science project competition from our school. It was bit challenging as topic is given by head of department and has to finish within short period of time. I have been a quiz master of science and mathematics quiz of the year. EXTRA RESPONSIBILITIES AND THE PROBLEMS THAT I FACED. None MY EXPERIENCE This was my first experience to teach in school. I have tried to teach in best method with full effort. I got good feedback from the students. But, compared to my life in TCV as a student earlier I observed TCV school an exemplary one. But, now TCV is becoming poor in discipline and degrading exemplary qualities. CHANGES THAT I FEEL NEEDED TO INTRODUCE: Examination office and a register clerk can be good for smooth functioning of school. School shouldn’t pay much attention towards unnecessary co-curricular activities.

5

PART VII: SCHOOL MANAGEMENT SUGGESTION TO IMPROVE SCHOOL:  Should organize many informal section meetings during class hour (not during after class or any time else).  There should be improvement in managerial system of system.  For any new teacher, there should have a new teacher’s manual stating the responsibilities of the appointed teacher in easy format so that he/she can perform teaching and other works properly.  Should reduce unnecessary co-curricular activities.
