BOARD 1 OF 8 CONCEPT

DESIGN DIRECTION

‘Ready or not, here we come’ is a playful strapline that reflects graduating students leaving education and embarking on careers within the creative industries. The strapline allows for a flexible set of promotional materials and exhibition signage that celebrate the work of the graduating year across all disciplines and courses.

The focus dictates a coherent visual style across a breadth of materials. Each composition is unique, yet they all unify through a consistent application of typography and considered photographic approach.

TONE The resolution to this brief is playful and expressive with an additional focus toward professionalism and creativity through the deliberate design direction.

Both models can be seen with their eyes covered on one side whilst having one eye open on the reverse. This is an aspect that has been put into place in order to provoke user interaction and to allow each reader to openly interpret how the imagery works alongside the overarching concept.

BOARD 2 OF 8 PROMOTIONAL POSTER As outlined within the design direction, the promotional poster makes use of both sides of the paper. The front contains all of the specified information that needs to be promoted and features a graduating student with their eyes covered. This side of the promotional poster is of a landscape format. Meanwhile, the reverse is stripped of its text and portrays a graduating student with one eye glancing out to industry. This side of the poster is aimed to be more desirable through a direct interaction with the reader. This is supported by the fact that the format on this side is portrait for those wishing to keep it as a memory on their wall or in a frame.

BOARD 3 OF 8 P R I VA T E V I E W I N V I T A T I O N The private view invitation is conceptually coherent and enhances interaction across both sides. The strapline helps to achieve this through an application of gloss white foil. This has been applied in context of giving the recipient a heightened experience that will potentially make them feel more special. Multiple models have been applied to this layout in order to represent both male and female students and to create a differentiation that could create a talking point amongst professionals within the creative industries.

BOARD 4 OF 8 EXHIBITION MAP Through positioning half of the models alongside the fold of the exhibtion map the user is encouraged to interact with all parts of the design. The format is A3 long with a gatefold that assists in heightening the desire to open the map up and to see what it may contain. Contained within the guide is an introduction to the exhibition and floor-by-floor break-downs of where each degree show is located at the Blenheim Walk campus. Contact details and colour coded maps are also included to assist the recipient as much as possible in conjunction with colour coded interior signage.

BOARD 5 OF 8 INTERIOR SIGNAGE Interior signage assists with wayfinding towards each unique course as well as navigating throughout the building in general. Visual clues will be provided through the colour co-ordination that helps to distinguish what floor you are currently on. These colours as mentioned, will work in conjunction with the hand-held maps received upon entry and aim to make the experience of the recipient as user friendly as possible in a building that is not always that easy to get through.

BOARD 6 OF 8 EXTERIOR SIGNAGE

TOWER POSTERS

Exterior signage willl be utilised to directly reflect printed promotional materials. With four sides, each alternating side may contain a different model looking out towards industry whilst providing details of the event.

In addition to promotional posters mailed out in packs, similar format posters are also posted up around Leeds city centre in a drip-feed manner.

All event times and dates are included and communicated to passers by whilst maintaining consistency to the smaller scale posters that are both mailed out and posted up around Leeds city centre.

Through this application a raised awareness within the public domain is gradually achieved and is an aspect that will only become more familiar as the event draws nearer in time.

BOARD 8 OF 8 WEBSITE BUTTONS Lastly, web based buttons / banners have been designed to stand-out and be instantaneously recognisable. This is applicable to both the type and image based elements of the overall design direction and through the decision to create animated gifs rather than static jpegs. Similar buttons and web banners have also been produced for external websites such as Grafik Magazine, as well as promotion on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
