Portrait Painter London

Serious Portrait Painter? London is looking for you Are you a portrait painter looking to progress your career? Are you looking to participate in exhibitions and show your work in the heart of London? Are you a portrait painter looking to become a member of the most long standing and forward thinking organisation which promotes and supports the practice of portraiture? Then read on….

The Royal Society of Portrait Painters always welcomes applications from portrait artists from around the UK. Unlike many societies your application doesn’t have to be proposed or seconded, you are judged solely on the quality of your work.

Portraiture is a unique talent, which is why the RP put such a heavy focus on your work being the gateway to your acceptance in the society. In order to proceed with an application, you must complete the following steps.

You need to submit work to our annual exhibition in central London which is open for entries now. See http://www.therp.co.uk/for-artists/prizes/ for details. You need to have it accepted. It is also imperative that you indicate you are an Applicant on your exhibition entry form when you are ready to apply for membership.

Once you have applied, the RP selection committee will assess your work and decide whether or not to add your name to the candidates list. If selected, artists will be invited to submit additional examples of their work to be assessed at the Annual General Meeting.

A candidature runs for three years . After the three years are up and you are not yet elected a year must pass before you are allowed to reapply. The only exception to this rule is if the committee decide you should be granted an extension

This meeting takes place after the exhibition has closed and all members vote. This is the point at which it is decided whether or not you are to be accepted into the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.

Successful candidates will be informed by post.

Whilst this may seem a complicated process it is in place in order to maintain the quality and integrity of the society. If you are a portrait painter, London is one of the best cities to exhibit in.

So if you are tempted and believe you have what it takes to be a representative of a society steeped in history and devoted to developing the art of portrait painting then what are you waiting for?
