|Plugin Living| A new style of Affordable Living
#Coliving #Plugin Modules # Metabolism U7 Studio Work - Tectonics Inquiry Type: High Rise Building Location: Sheung Yue River, Yuen Long, Hong Kong Advisor: Prof. Talamini, Gianni A New mode of living style for public and tenants. Sharing concpet will be occured from ground floor to upper floor.
Site Layout
This proposal seeks to create affordable houses for the residents as Hong Kong housing prices is relatively high in the world. By using megastructure design(Framework, core, modules), the structure of steel framework would be expanded or grown by times, needs, services, requirement. Therefore, It gives a flexibility for the public to use the plugin services. For the tectonic, this project aims to explore how the tectonic design( megastructure) form a new living spaces and try to examine various tectonic design for different functions(by expansion or subtraction). Such as, circulation, platform, water recycling, single units, family units.

Site Potential The project is located in Ta Shek Wu Tsuen, Yuen Long. There are rich resources in the surrounding. For the natural resources, Sheung Yu River is located in the middle of the site and green elements are placed in the surrounding. Also, there are some Existing Village called Ta Shek Wu Tsuen. It may be a potential users to connect to new residents. Moreover, Mountain trails is located outside the site boundary. It may be a potential to connect the public from those trails. Finally, there are a lot of containers in the site. Those materials may be recycled for the construction.

Recycle of container’s modules Those containers are from the site. It is founded that a lot of containers are abandoned in Ta Shek Wu Tsuen, Yuen Long. Those containers are high cube containers (2.9m in height) and suitable for modular design. Therefore, those containers can be recycled for certain type of modules. Also, plugin and plugout design would be possible to increase the flexibility of modules spaces.

Structure concept There are normally 3 main structural components in the design. Those are core, framework and modules. For the core, it is the fundamental structure to determine the vertical circulation and density. For the framework, the framework is made by steels beams and columns. It would attach to the cores and give support to the “plug in services. The spaces would be determined by frameworks. For the modules, building elements or service that plugs into the framework to form a space. Therefore, core, framework and modules are major elements for the tectonic design.

Teectonic Feature The structure of framework, cores, modules provides possibilities of structural expansion. That system help to create different structural design and spaces. For example, expansion of framework and modules creates some stepping social area at the corner. framework and bracing can form a pedestrian bridge or platforms. Therefore, possibilities of spaces or structural frames can be controled by tectonic system. It may suit to different needs of space or types of people.

|Transmutation| A new style of Living & Working
This project aims to explore the new mode of living & working conditions for residents in a community to improve the quality of life for those who live in traditional subdivided units (e.g. tenement house/ industrial buildings).
#Coworking #Sharing #Coliving U6 Studio Work - Urban Intervention Type: High Rise Building
For past, people just live in a share house/ working area to do their own jobs, sometime they may collaborate with others, but it is normally restricted in living/ working area.
Location: Tong Mi Road, Mong Kok, Hong Kong Advisor: Prof. Virginia Fung A New mode of living style for public and tenants. Sharing concpet will be occured from ground floor to upper floor.
As the old style of living and working is separated clearly and some of the hongkongers like to have more work life balance nowadays. Therefore, the old style of living may not be suitable for cuurent people. That project can be acted as a experimental place to explore whether the new mode of living/ working condition can suit to people of modern age with their pace of life.

For the ground level design, I have divide the space into different parts to have different activities. For example, outdoor dining area and steeping leisure should be put in middle to have a great social activities in that area. For the both side. It is more preferable to make parking area and market area. For the upper level, it is residential area, there are some skybridge area and void space to encourage the living style of coliving/ coworking.

Bracing Structure The bracing structure creates different voids’ spaces on the facades. Therefore, the winds and sunlight could be penetrated to the interior easily. It may reduce energy consumption.
Structure
Wood Structure
Waffle Structure The Waffle Structure is made by the woods joints. Those joints called mortar and tension that gives an effective construction to the workers. Those materials could be recyclable.
|Alternative Designs| There are four different designs which represent the same concept of Red-Flowered. After comparing the Aesthetics and sustainability, Design 0 would be the final design, The reasons will be discussed as follow.
Design 0 - Final Design
First, for the aesthetics, Design 0 & 2 would be a suitable choice because the welcoming entrance would attract the public to go inside the building. It is easy to see the middle tower parts. In constrast, It is hard for the public to see the middle tower parts in Design 1 and 3 and the concept of welcoming entrance is not that strong. Second, for the sustability, there are diifferent voidsm bracing, empty spaces to get the sunlight and winds from different direction. In constrastm Design 2 may block most of the sunlight from the top. Therefore, Design 0 would be the better choice.

#All in one Design #Baby Chair #Multifunction Sustainable Art and Design - Furniture Design Type: Baby Chair Design
In oversea, houses area spacious and there are a lot of furnitures in the living units for different users. Such as, kids and adults. However, living space in Hong Kong is valuable. Subdivided houses are very common in Hong Kong. Inside the unit, the bed occupies majority of the space. Therefore, an all in one design is more preferable in Hong Kong environment.
Location: CMC, CityU, Hong Kong
I aim to create a furniture which suits the environment in Hong Kong. The furniture designed should be multio-functional, usable for certain users, space-saving, and have a long lifespan. This kind of product would be very popular. The proposed design would be a baby furniture.

|Professional Works| Ribbon Cube - Shopping Mall Design
#Ribbon #Cube #Refurbishment work AGC Design Ltd Professional Work - Shopping Mall Design Type: Shopping Mall Location: Lubei Qu, Tangshan City, China Advisor: Mr. David Yu & Anthony Ho Refurbishment work for the whole shopping mall.
This is a refurbishment work for the whole shopping mall. In this project, we aims to improve the shopping experiences for clients by using Ribbon and Cube. Also, Immersive design for interiors are adopted for better shopping experience and meeting the clients' needs. For this Tangsshan project, I am in the design team and responsible for drawing production of schematic design on parts of shopping mall and interior rendering. For example, conceptural diagram for the whole mall, Whole B1 basement modeling. Also, I learned how to communicate with the suppliers (e.g. 3M) to get different samples of materials (e.g. Sun control Window Film) and testify the most suitable materials for the building.
For this project, Ribbon Cube is adopted for the whole design concept as “The gifting culture” is related to Tangshan City. Also, the project is around ~300 meter in length. It is hoped that by using long “ribbon” to circulate the roads and different “Cube” to create various experience for the public.
Concept: Ribbon Cube
Master Planning
For the interior space, there are three main “I-Con” point for the project. When public going to the enter. They would see the “Curving canopy” and Big Screening as Welcoming entrance(Commercial Value). In the Middle, there are interesting Boxes area for Leisuring Activities. For the last part, there are big stepping area for social activities and showing. Those spaces would creates different commercial values for the mall. Original Design

|B1 Basement Layout Plan| For this B1 Basement, I aim to create different immersed experience for the public. Therefore, I make some researches for the TangShan City from past to current time. From past, it is found that Tangshan is one of the most important heavy industrial city in China. As Guangdong merchant Tong King sing opened the first coal mine in 1877. Also, it hosted large steel plants and iron projects. Nowadays, government is intent to promote greenery space for the environmental protection.
Mining Factory (Past)
Green Depot (Present)
Ri You Market (Future)
Therefore, I seperated the whole pavings into three mains area to tell a story of Tangshan City from past to future. Those are Mining Factory( Past), Green Depot (Present), Ri You Market (Future). For the Mining Factory, the loft and factory style were adopted to show the culture of Tangshan City.
|Optimized B1 Layout Plan|
Also, the “Hand Car would also show the traditional ways of mining transpotation. For the Green Depot, greenery environment would create natural feeting for the public. For the Ri You Market, Social and Coliving area may present the future of that city.
