Horror Magazine Cover Analysis This magazine cover is a typical example of a horror magazine via its employment of many techniques which are typical to horror film posters and thus the magazines which compile information on the industry. The most eye-catching element is the title of the magazine which is either taken from the famous horror film of the same name or one pf the key aims of many horror films which is of course to scare people and thusly make them scream out in terror. The magazine goes for a typical colour scheme of red and black as both colours have the connotations of being dark and sinister when thought of as colours of the night and of blood. The red is surprisingly used scarcely and is used primarily to highlight the more hard to see information, working with the theme of blood the red is put to form splatters of blood forming a pool at the bottom of the page. The black is mainly used as a backdrop which will allow the text and images to be seen easier and make them pop off of the page. The main articles title is in yellow and is in a large font in attempts to grab the reader’s attention. Finally the composition of the cover falls in line with that of most magazines with the title being at the top and the main articles title being positioned slightly below it with key images and sub articles covering the rest of the page. The cover also features a website and a price which are mainstay features of all magazine covers.
