Horror Movie Poster Analysis The movie poster for “The Conjuring is rather atypical of the majority of horror movie posters as it does not feature any overly typical elements such as blood or a scary beast or any other monster or spirit. The poster is completely devoid of colour leaving the poster to catch you eye through its lack of blood and its unsettling image of a child sitting on a rocking chair like an old lady with a small doll. The black and white theme could be paying homage to old horror or the more likely explanation would be that colour could draw attention from the unsettling image thus lessen the images effect. The primary image on the poster is indicative of the more jump scare focussed sub-genre of super natural horror with a small seemingly innocent child sitting on a rocking chair in bleak, blank walled room, aiming to leave the reader wanting to know more and perhaps even leaving them slightly unsettled. The text used on the poster is scarce in order to leave the picture to speak more than could be written about it, the titles font is relatively gothic and perhaps conveys a time period but other than that the text merely hypes the film up and gives the mandatory small print of the films production and cast.
