Site selection is critical to the success of a project like this. The site must be located on the water, but ideally must also be close to multiple scales of transportation, a populated area that would see the trash cans replaced with the designed trash cans, near parks or areas of public gathering for the carts to vend to, and possibly even a food desert.

The site selected that matched all these criteria is at 96th Street and First Avenue where there is a pedestrian walkway, local roads, and an on/off ramp to the FDR highway. This ideal to address all scales of the waste issue: Pedestrian to allow for intimate interaction by the average person, local roads to allow for cart and employee access, and highway to allow for delivery and removal of trash for landfill.
