Ancient Temple Of Poseidon

It is one of the most beautiful tiny islands of our country and is located just a few miles away from Athens! A small paradise with incredible natural beauty and history! Poros is an island in the Saronic Gulf which is located a short distance from the coast of the Peloponnese and opposite the village of Galatas in Trizinia. That is why it is an ideal destination not only for holidays but also for short all-day excursions!

ΤΟ ΡΟΛΟΙ - THE CLOCK

The Ancient Temple of Poseidon is located on the north side of the island, in Palatia are which is between Vigla and Profitis Ilias. It is estimated that it was built in 520 BC. and is Doric in style with 6 columns in width and 12 in length and with 2 entrances. In fact, it is one of the three great sanctuaries of Poseidon around the Saronic Gulf.

The Clock which is a symbol of the island, is easily accessible from the port. It stands among prickly pears and pines at the highest

The Temple formed an isosceles triangle with Aphaia Aegina and Poseidon of Sounio. Few ruins remain today of the Doric temple (6th century) which is made of blue limestone. However, it continues to be one of the most important monuments of antiquity in Ancient Kalavria, in perhaps the most beautiful part of the island.

ΆΣΚΈΛΙ - ASKELI

Right after Κanali you will reach the beautiful Askeli, which is built amphitheatrically on the slope of a pine-covered hill with pan- oramic view from above. There you can find an organized sandy beach with beach bar, beach volleyball court, tables with chairs, sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, ski school and water sports facilities. On the beach there is a place to play rackets and tall eucalyptus trees that create shade for those who are not sun lovers.

Just right after Askeri beach you will find Monastiri beach which the Monastery’s beach.

Zoodochou Pigi Monastery

The Monastery of Zoodochou Pigi was built on the 18th century on a green slope, overlooking the sea, 4 km from the center of Poros and is a sample of the unique island monastery architecture, a perfect combination of peace, simplicity and picturesqueness. At the entrance of the Monastery there is a water source known for its healing properties, from which the Monastery took its name.

Russian Naval Station

To the west of the port of Poros, 5 kilometers north, in a beautiful bay, the ruins of the amphitheatrically built Russian Naval Station are preserved. After the end of the Russo-Turkish war, the Russians chose this port to create a station for the Russian fleet. So in 1834 they built there a complex of buildings used for the manufacture of galeta and for the storage of materials, food and coal that served to supply the Russian fleet. The Russians maintained the property until 1900. At the beginning of the 20th century, the then Greek ambassador to Russia Alexandros Tombazis - a native of Poriotsuggested to the Tsar the transfer of ownership of the area to the Greek State for the good of the Greek Navy. The Tsar agreed and so the Russian Naval Base came under the jurisdiction of the Naval Service that was then based in Poros. Since 1989 it has been designated as a historically preserved monument, due to its great architectural and historical interest.

ΔΆΣΚΆΛΙΟ - DASKALIO ISLAND

Exactly opposite the Russian Naval Station you will find the small island of Daskalio with the small church of the Koimisis of Theotokou, in a beautiful and picturesque cove. It was probably named so because during the Turkish occupation it functioned as a “secret school”. But what makes Daskalio special is the fact that if you look at it from above, it looks as it has the shape of a heart!

ΦΆΡΟΣ «ΝΤΆΝΆ»- DANA LIGHTHOUSE

“Dana” Lighthouse, at the entrance of the Gulf of Poros, was built in 1870 by the French Society of Ottoman Lighthouses. It is one of the most beautiful square stone lighthouses in Greece and is one of the newest monuments in the naval history of the place. The height of its tower is 9 meters and its focal height is 32 meters, while it is less than 6 km from the city of Poros. The path from the main road to the lighthouse is good and the journey does not take more than fifteen minutes. So whats better than walking to reach the lighthouse from there, so as to admire the beautiful view of the Saronic Gulf and of Methana.

ΛΙΜΆΝΆΚΙ ΤΗΣ ΆΓΆΠΗΣ - LOVE BAY

Το Λιμανάκι της Αγάπης ένας πολύ ρομαντικός όρμος, όπου μπορεί κανείς να απολαύσει το πράσινο και τα γαλαζοπράσινα νερά κάνοντας μπάνιο ...κάτω από τα πεύκα! Είναι oργανωμένη παραλία με ομπρέλες, ξαπλώστρες, τραπεζάκια και μια καντίνα, στην οποία μπορείτε να φάτε κάτι πρόχειρο, να πιείτε τον καφέ σας, παγωτά ή αναψυκτικά, ούζο, τσίπουρο, κρασί και μπύρες. Το Λιμανάκι της Αγάπης συγκοινωνεί με την πόλη του Πόρου με ταξί ή με βαρκούλες από το Νεώριο.

The Love Bay is a very romantic cove, where you can enjoy the green and turquoise waters and swim... under the pines! It is an organized beach with umbrellas, sunbeds, tables and a canteen, where you can eat, drink your coffee, soft drinks, ouzo, tsipouro, wine or beers! You can reach the Love Bay by car, taxi or by boat from Neorio.

Galatas Lemon Forest

Ancient Troizina was built on the northern slope of Mount Aderes. The archeological findings are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Poros. While three kilometers away from Galatas, on your way to Troizina, you will fing the Royal Tombs of Magoula, which are vaulted monuments from the Mycenaean years which are an important example of Mycenaean Civilization.

ΜΙΚΡΟ

ΝΈΩΡΙΟ - MIKRO NEORIO

The Lemon Forest is an area with more than 30,000 lemon and orange trees, and many taverns, located in Galata and which has been declared a protected area by the European Union. The forest ends at the sandy beaches of Plaka and Alykes.

Ancient Troizina

A small but beautiful sandy beach, organized and with pines that reach the sea.

Megalo Neorio

Ancient Troizina is located about 7 km outside Galatas. According to mythology, it was the homeland of Theseus.

Megalo Neorio is an organized sandy beach with free entrance.There is also a water sports school in the area. Pine trees facing the sea and taverns provide the ideal setting for you to spend the day overlooking the sea.

Archaeological Museum

Kalavria, from Modi and Ag. Constantine of Methane. The exhibition of the Museum extends in two rooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor of the building, while the art gallery of Poros hosts many exhibitions of Greek and foreign artists, especially during summer. The exhibits of the museum compose a rich collection that covers all time periods, from the Mycenaean Age to the Roman years and the first Christian centuries.

The Archaeological Museum of Poros is located in Koryzi Square and there are exhibited sculptures, inscriptions and architectural members, statues of the classical period and archaeological finds of the area, which came from the excavations of the Temple of Poseidon (6th century BC), Ancient Troizina (home of the mythological hero Theseus), the Royal Tombs of Magoula (which are a sample of the great Mycenaean civilization), Apathy,

Folklore Museum Of Poros

The Folklore Museum of Poros was created by the members of the Cultural Association of Women of Poros “PORIOTISSA” and the folklore material was collected from donations of members and friends and from markets. So take a look at the tradition and the interesting collection of household utensils, everyday objects, tools of rural life, furniture of the folk house, loom, embroidery, textiles, all kinds of handicrafts, costumes, costumes, photos.

THE DEVIL’S BRIDGE

Kanali beach is located right after the bridge that connects the Gymnasium with the Settlement and is only 8 minutes away from the port of Poros. It is a very beautiful, organized sandy beach with a beach bar and wonderful views of the open sea. Kanali connects to the city of Poros by bus or taxi.
