Home for entertaining Male graphic designer Valley on Lake Travis in Austin, Texas 3,000 Fall 2010
The site sits above a valley that flows into Lake Travis. The sounds of the site inspired me to organized the program around sound zones of reflection, filtering, and fading. Reflection areas are the most private zones of the house where sound is reverberated in the landscape. The filtering zone is a public space that distributes noise and guests. Located upstairs are the public areas where sound fades into the valley. 02

SITE PLAN The site for this project was chosen for its beautiful landscape and view of a valley to the southeast. The client wished for the large oak trees on the site to be undisturbed. The intent of the project was to focus on the views and the sounds of the site to capture them and have them constantly experienced in the house.

We had the option to chose the East or the West lot on this site. We were paired to work with one person in the class who chose the opposite site to make sure both houses had great views and privacy. 04

Coming from the road you retreat down into the landscape to reach the house. The house is clad in local stone and wood siding to enhance the landscape. 08

MASTER BEDROOM The master suite is situated on the lowest level along the treetops and in the landscape to control privacy. From waking to showering it is a place ot enjoy nature.

FOYER
The entry level provides a place of repose and a filter to the public and private areas of the house.
DINING ROOM TO LIVING ROOM With its open plan configuration, the main living space of the house takes full advantage of the views above the tree tops and brings the valley into the space. This relationship is further maintained by the ability to open sliding glass doors completely away for an uninhibited view.

The aquatic center provides a year round family recreation facility in an urban context surrounded by a new mixed-use development. Groups of two conducted this portion of the project after selection of one group members scheme for the aquatic center. Both members were expected to collaborate their concepts and ideas into one design.

The site’s transportation hot-spots and natural circulation pathways were preserved to allow the community to easily connect throughout the site.

The program requirements include a lobby area, swimming, diving and recreational pools, spectator seating, locker rooms, administration space, life guard and first aid stations, a wet classroom, concession and eating areas, and support space.

An iconic transitional space is the only structure apparent on ground level. Various skylights and two glass facades built up by sloping green hills, allow natural light as well as people to look into the main underground building.

Museum of Science and Art Rhode Island Museum of Science and Art (RIMOSA) Providence, Rhode Island 10,000 Fall 2011
RIMOSA creates pop up exhibits around Providence to provide the community a place to observe, explore the world, and create. The exhibits are hands-on and focus on art and science. Looking for a permanent location they came to RISD for help in finding and designing a permanent space. My concept explores how science and art use different methods to find the truths in the world. 26

I was interested in finding the moment art meets science. In both disciplines of art and science, finding the truth out in the world is stressed. The scientist has found the equation; the artist has felt a sublime insight.

RIGHT EAR STUD WITH MATURE ROOT For versatility the roots are not fixed, which gives movement to the piece. 40

RIGHT EAR STUD The seed stud has sprouts that wrap up around the edge of the ear.
LEFT EAR STUD This seed can be worn along or with two different roots.
YOUNG ROOT Can be worn through the stud in the left or right ear... or not at all.

Sprouting Earrings The conceptual idea is about the growth that takes place between adolescence and adulthood. The earrings are very versatile and can be worn multiple ways. They are constructed of silver wire.

The project was to create a piece that functions as a pendant, a brooch, and showcases a sense. Referencing theorist Martin Heidegger, I used his theory that the sense of existence is to dwell. I created an object that could be a space or a place. The piece becomes a place when an image of my home is inserted, calling to mind memories that makes it a place.

Using the ring as a stamp, it creates a signature that is unique.

Hollow Signet Ring
The government issues every U.S. citizen a social security number. This “signature� is often seen as a burden to keep hidden. I created a system that could mass produce this unique signature for all to see. The signature takes the form of a barcode because I see it as a branding. The shape of the ring is linear and slightly uncomfortable just as this branding we all secretly carry. 47
