The company in 2017 appointed the first female CEO, Mrs. Julie Reifer Jones. There are also several females in high profile positions including as Captains. The airline now operates to 14 destinations though with the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, there has been a limited commercial schedule to the four affected destinations. Following the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, LIAT moved to assist several of the affected territories. LIAT was able to assist the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) with putting the first team in Antigua to assist in the assessment of damage on Barbuda. In addition to relief supplies, the flight also had a team from CDEMA who was there to assess and help in the rebuilding efforts. On September 13th, LIAT did its assessment flight to St. Maarten which saw the team doing a tour of the Princess Juliana International Airport as well as bringing relief supplies to the staff of our ground handling partners. LIAT was back to assisting affected destinations by doing its assessment flight to Dominica on Thursday 21st September. The team led by the CEO, Julie Reifer -Jones visited the Douglas Charles Airport. There was also a visit by Corporate Communications Manager Shavar Maloney to Roseau to assess the situation on the ground. LIAT also did an assessment flight to San Juan where the team met with LIAT staff as well as ground handlers to review the start of flights into that destination. LIAT is proud as a regional carrier to lead the relief efforts to assist our Caribbean brothers and sisters. (See more in the HR news section.)
