Reflections Photo Shoot 1 To create these edits, I took pictures of reflections given off from water. I changed their brightness and contrast to enhance the images and cropped them on the reflection itself to give them a greater effect and focus on the subject. I like the way the edits look as there very simple but interesting, I would like to explore this further without later projects as I like the effect they give.

Reflections Photo Shoot 2 To create these edits, I took pictures of reflections given off from water and mirrors I changed their brightness and contrast to enhance the images and cropped them to give them a greater effect and focus on the object. I then edited them on pixlr to give the spliced effect and mixing them to make a new image and pattern. I like the way the edits look as I like the structure of them and how the splicing of the images to create a new on looks and how well they go together as there all very similar.

Antonsen/Zakharov Response For this second collection of edits, I experimented further with the idea of framing with images on my other edits. I then developed them further by adding white boarders around the centre image to separate both layer and further developed the idea by adding boxed sections of the background around the person to get the idea of 3 layers. I took different pictures of hand shapes in different positions, using a white background on auto focus selecting different angles to take the pictures. I digitally edited them by first cropping them to the create the mirrored look, we copied the picture and then pasted in and then flipped it horizontal, to then do the 4 way mirror we copied the top section of are photo and the pasted it and flipped it vertical this creating Zakharovs like edits. I created variations by layering to images on top of each other and then changed their layer settings and then their opacity. My edits are like Antonsens and zakharovs as they have a distort feel to them but you can still make out that they are hands, they replicate their style closely.

Coburn Response To create Coburns work I took pictures of prisms and reflections. I changed the contrast of the edits and then layered 3 copies of the picture on top of each other and moved them about I then changed the opacity of the layers to reveal each one underneath. I like the way the edits look as of their repetition and the pattern it makes and the blurred effect it has.

Stevens Response To create Stevens work I took pictures of objects and rooms in an app called kaleidacam to distort and mirror the images in different ways. I then edited them simply and pasted and rotated the images to give a spiral effect. I like the way the edits look as there very eye catching and have a unique appearance, I like the distorted effect it has. The photographer uses similar techniques to Coburn with the layering of images to create a whole new image.
Coupland Response To create couplands work I took head shots of the subject like a passport picture would look like. I changed them to black and white and put different coloured squares and shapes and layered them on the subjects face to conceal them, concealing their identity. I like the way the edits look as there very eye catching and retro giving it a unique appearance. The photographer uses similar techniques to Gieger which disables face recognition software.
Crooks Response To create these panning edits I took head shots of the subject like a stop motion making them slowly turn left to right. I the layered to images of different angles and cut and pasted bits of the image to reveal the one underneath, creating a like glitch effect. I like the way the edits look as there revealing two parts of someone’s identity and emotions I also like it aesthetically as of the technique it creates. The photographer uses similar techniques to coupland by changing the face so it can’t be recognised.
Gieger Response To create Giegers work I took pictures of strangers on their mobile phones. I changed the subjects face to conceal them, by stretching their faces using liquify to distort their identity’s. I liked making the edits but I don’t like this type of photography and the final outcomes as I think they look very unfinished and untidy and just overall look very messy and lazy. The photographer uses similar techniques to coupland wwho conceals their subject’s identity.
Development and Refinement Title Page
Development Edits Set 1 For this first collection of edits, I experimented with techniques from earlier projects such as Coburn and Crook but also experimented with different ideas; clone stamps and framing with images. I then tried adding different effects to them.

Development Edits Set 2 For this second collection of edits, I experimented further with the idea of framing with images on my other edits. I then developed them further by adding white boarders around the centre image to separate both layer and further developed the idea by adding boxed sections of the background around the person to get the idea of 3 layers.

I’ve experimented with a few background options and I feel like the white backgrounds are better for my edits and makes them have a clearer focus point.

Maquette 1 For this maquette I raised the border a single layer and the image a double layer. This create relief to emphasise the central image and set the border back.
Maquette 2 I cut these images into two parts the image and the background I raised the image a single layer and the frame a double layer which makes a box frame. This adds relief which makes a simple image more interesting.

EVALUATION My idea links to reflections in a metaphorical way as well as through digital and physical editing. Through my primary photos I wanted to reflect the uprising concern and interest people have about saving the environment by using nature as my prime focus. On the contrary, I also wanted to reflect the beauty and innocence of nature through my images. By using the box frame effect, it allowed my photos to appear layered and mirrored which also links to reflections in a visual way. For all my primary edits, I used layers to create a mirrored background. My work has been influenced by Coburn and Crooks as with their work they use layering of images on top of one another. However, I did it in a different way to them as I layered some photos on top of each other but left the outing of the bottom image to show around the top layer. I was also influenced by Steve McCurry with his close detail and natural lighting as well as the simplicity of his portraits. It doesn’t compare with the subject matter of Crooks and Coburn nor visually but with techniques of layering similar images together my work reflected theirs. Visually, my work compared to McCurry as he photographs close up and head shots. My subject matter also compared to McCurry’s work as he photographs portraits. Similarly, the way he photographs natural settings is how I photographed my final shoot. I learnt through McCurry that by taking photos with natural lighting it makes the photos more aesthetically pleasing and allows a clear focus on the model. I learnt through Coburn and Crooks that layering makes the photos look more interesting and makes the photographs “pop”. I am overly pleased with my final outcome as it compared to my influencing artists due to the similarities in my work and theirs. Whether this was physically or through the techniques. I am once again very pleased with my outcome compared to my intentions as they adapted during the process of making and designing which made my work better and the overall completion of the piece. I developed my idea further by adding a background image behind my initial edits to experiment with the complexity of my final piece. I also experimented with four-way mirroring of the middle image to create a background for my edits. Instead of doing a simple raise, I also developed my ideas to create a box frame style after creating my maquette. I found it difficult to decide how I wanted to present my final edits so to overcome this I went simple and didn’t over complicate it. By doing this, I think it made my final piece look clean and well thought out. By choosing something simple it allowed my piece to not look messy but instead aesthetically pleasing. I think my greatest strength of my project was my edits because they were well planned out and my shoot was successful in capturing the perfect setting which allowed my photos to look well presented.
