Why do we procrastinate – fear of success and fear of failure Procrastination is one of the most frustrating problems of today’s society. An accumulation of stress, work and information leaves us with a feeling of a disability to deal with life. We want to take over the initiative but we simply cannot. The urge of the postponing is too strong to overcome it as we are not really aware of why we feel like so. Unfortunately, in the schools, we learn a lot about things that are not useful daily and too little about things that can serve us in our lives. Procrastination is often compared to laziness and most people treat it the same. Is it really similar? People are emotional beings and almost everything we do comes from a certain emotion. In order to understand our decisions, it is essential to understand the feelings they have brought to them. In order to understand the feelings it is necessary to watch our emotional reaction from a distance. Understanding yourself can only be without a personal engagement and when we look at ourselves from another perspective.
So, why do we procrastinate? There are only two reasons: fear of success and fear of failure. 1/3
Although it does seem a bit contradictory, it’s actually very logical. If we move away from our thoughts and observe them as they are, we can see the direction of their movement. Is it the fear of success or failure in the background? In order to understand me better, I will explain with the example. Imagine a man called John. John wants to start his own business but keeps postponing the first step that leads in that direction. He thinks it is because of various other things like not enough time, no inspiration, no support, too many obligations, etc. John is very clever and quick to justify himself. He is procrastinating to avoid the outcome. He does not want to make the first step because he may think he will not be good enough to succeed. Or if he succeeds, his whole life will change, and it is too much for him. Being unaware of his inner sabotage falls into the loop and struggles in internal battles with himself. He wants to transform his life but avoid the outcome of transforming. Procrastination is nothing but delayed the action to delay the outcome of that action. The real question is why is that so? “Procrastination is the fear of success. People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success that they know will result if they move ahead now. Because success is heavy, carries a responsibility with it, it is much easier to procrastinate and live on the ‘someday I’ll’ philosophy. “ The question that each of us needs to answer. There is something we have not solved with ourselves that prevents us from continuing with life in the greater light. The fear of success and failure are defeated as any other fear, simply going through them. This does not mean that they will not appear again but facing them becomes easier and easier with time until we finally learn from them. Why do we procrastinate if we can live life filled with happiness and joy? We need to approach procrastination the same as any other problem. Next time we notice that we are in a situation of delaying life; we simply put some distance between us and the situation, and wonder why we are doing this. Let’s try to understand what is at the end of our thoughts, what is the reason we are postponing life. When we understand why we are doing something, solving the problem becomes as simple as making a single step. After we have resolved what leads us to this, the problem has lost complicity and we can easily move to action. Let’s not forget thinking about something requires a lot more energy than just doing it. Our value is in our problems and shortcomings because we can change that into our advantage. Those are our possibilities for growth. 2/3
I am going to leave you with this beautiful thought: “Your Life Is Happening Right Now: Do not let your procrastination take over your life. Be brave and take risks. Your life is happening right now. “
