WALT DISNEY WORLD, USA Caryn Klein • Amherst, NY “ Walt Disney World is a special destination for all ages. Drink and eat around the world in Epcot, experience Disney movies in Hollywood Studios, learn about animals and nature in Animal Kingdom, and enter the world of fantasy in Magic Kingdom. Since there is so much to do, I always recommend at least five days in the parks and a stay in an on-site hotel to take advantage of Disney’s complimentary transportation. For an added bonus, utilize the Dining Plan, so you can try all of the Disney snacks, especially my personal favorite, Dole Whip! ”
IRELAND Lauren Allard • Burlington, MA “ One of my favorite vacations to date was my trip to Ireland last year. I couldn’t get over the lush landscape and how warm – not to mention, funny! – the locals were. If you’re in Ireland, you absolutely must take a car ride through Killarney National Park. It’s breathtakingly beautiful. You can even take a kayaking trip on the three lakes to see Ross Castle, the ruins of Innisfallen Abbey. ” @laurenvirginiaa AllardL@LibertyTravel.com 781.221.5600

NEVIS Johnny Metrano • Stamford, CT “ Nevis feels like a totally different world, and that’s intentional. History (Alexander Hamilton House and sugar plantations), colonial charm (Nisbet Plantation), tropical adventure (snorkeling, hiking Mt. Nevis, Funky Monkey Tour), and luxury (Four Seasons Nevis) await you. All this is balanced perfectly within the relaxing oasis of Nevis’ 36 square miles. Beaches are idyllic and uncrowded, and the food is incredible! Nevis is a friendly, safe, unspoiled tropical paradise.”
PARIS Theresa Braun • Springfield, PA “ I spent four months in Paris taking in every sight, sound, and smell possible, and it easily became my favorite city! The Catacombs and The Louvre are must-see attractions, but the lines can take hours to get through. Try our “Skip the Line” tour instead, so that you can spend the rest of your time lounging in the Luxembourg Gardens with a baguette and brie or savoring crêpes in the Latin Quarter!” @rtheresa_.travels BraunT@LibertyTravel.com 215.972.0200

Worked up an Appetite? We Thought So. The dining options are just as blissful. Start out with a beer at the District Brewhouse, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, 50 bottled beers, and 24 taps. For beer snobs, this is paradise at sea. No longer relegated to just a few beers that tend to be tropical style pilsners, here you’ll get your fill of IPAs, stouts, and other hoppy concoctions. We also saw Elvis Duran and crew from Z100’s Elvis Duran & the Morning Show hanging out here. As random as that might sound, Elvis Duran was named the Godfather of the Norwegian Bliss, so you’re in cool company.
Adventure 2.0
For an expertly crafted cocktail, Maltings Whiskey Bar offers up a classic drink in a classy atmosphere. Along the Waterfront, a gorgeous strip like a boardwalk along the water, you’ll also find Los Lobos Mexican cuisine, Ocean Blue for exquisite seafood, and La Cucina for Italian. Cagney’s Steakhouse is another stop along the Waterfront, the place for a great steak, crab cakes, and other dishes (try the truffle fries). Teppanyaki is the place for sizzling Asian cuisine. After the shrimp flies through the air, the onions form a volcano, and knives get juggled, a delicious meal awaits.
It has been an ongoing competition amongst cruise ships for years now. What new, crazy thing is going to separate the new ship from all the others? Whether it’s a skydiving simulator or some other exhilarating ride that you wouldn’t expect out at sea, cruise liners keep on raising the bar. The Norwegian Bliss – which just made its first official seven-day voyage to Alaska in early June – is no exception. Besides a comprehensive and thrilling laser tag course, the ship has an actual race track. On two levels, and featuring sharp turns, this go-cart track will have you moving fast with views to boot – though we don’t suggest taking your eye off the road. If you should for some reason – perhaps to catch a glimpse of those stunning Alaskan glaciers – you’ll be perfectly safe, as the carts are collision-friendly with bumpers all around the vehicle. Be one of the first gocarters out in the middle of the ocean and try to beat other passengers’ times. Plus, the Aquapark is also on another level, with slides that actually hover above the ocean and off the side of the ship, so you’ll feel like you’re flying. The Kids’ Aqua Park is just what the children are looking for, and the state-of-the-art Bliss Casino will be a thrilling adventure for the adults, including slots and table games.
Le Bistro is where you’ll find French at its finest, and the Manhattan Room is an elegant setting offering stunning views out towards sea – plus a top-notch beef wellington and other amazing dishes. The main dining rooms, Savor and Taste, offer rotating menus and signature dishes, while The Haven offers every meal of the day to Haven guests, who stay in an exclusive enclave with private keycard access to suites on another level of luxury, 24-hour butler and concierge service, exclusive sundeck, and the eponymous restaurant that is exclusively theirs. For a casual bite and a few drinks, The Local makes living easy, where comfort food like fish ‘n chips and a perfect burger pairs with the game on TV and good conversation. Maybe the most anticipated restaurant onboard is Q, however, where the barbecue is nothing less than masterful. Smoked over hickory, oak and pecan wood, all of the meats served here are authentically Texas BBQinspired. After grabbing for extra napkins and for that final bite, enjoy the country band who will set you off dancing into the night. Need your coffee fix? Grab your favorite morning brew at the onboard Starbucks. If brand recognition is your thing, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville ® at Sea is also always an option.

Why You Set Sail in the First Place Easy to forget, what with all the events, dining options, entertainment, and endless things to do, but sailing the high seas is one of, if not the most, tranquil and romantic ways to travel; it is in many respects the reason you’re onboard. With the Norwegian Bliss, you’ll certainly feel like you’re at a world-class resort – we didn’t even mention everything you’ll be able to do at sea – but with the added bonus of the romanticism of sailing.
Now That’s Entertainment The nightly shows on the Norwegian Bliss are not to be missed. Enjoy a production of the Broadway smash-hit classic Jersey Boys and sing along to the Four Seasons as they go from the streets of Jersey into superstardom. Savor prohibition era cocktails during Happy Hour Prohibition – the Musical, set in a New Orleans-style speakeasy. Miss Lulu and her girls will sing some of the period’s greatest hits and get you involved in this fun interactive show. A third musical onboard is the vibrant ‘50s themed ¡HAVANA!, a fastpaced show helmed by Tony Award ®-winning director and choreographer, Warren Carlyle, famed costume designers, Ruben and Isabel Toledo, and Grammy-winning singer, Albita, who wrote the songs. Beatles fans – pretty much everyone – will also know they’re on the right ship when they spot the Cavern Club, a spitting image of the world-famous club in Liverpool, where the Beatles used to perform. Sip a drink and relax while listening to the incredible Beatles cover band play all the hits. Social Comedy & Nightclub is a great place to get some laughs before a night of dancing. Start the evening off with some bellylaughs and then take a spot on the dance floor as a resident DJ spins into the wee hours of the night. Theme parties also are on the entertainment menu, and we got to experience the silent disco, where you put on headphones and dance to the rhythm of the music, surrounded by others doing the same. Masquerade balls, Latin dance fests, and country music extravaganzas are also what you can expect.

And with a focus on Alaskan cruises, the romanticism is lifted that much more. As much as Norwegian focuses on activities onboard the ship, they left ample space for simply taking it all in. The 180-degree Observation Lounge provides an unparalleled frontrow view of Alaska’s awe-inspiring glaciers. With more than 3,500 square feet of floor-to-ceiling windows, plus full-service bar, it’s a great spot to toast the day as the sun sets or to even try catching a close look at a whale. The Horizon Lounge, for guests of The Haven, offers a private observation deck with equally breathtaking looks out onto nature. And if total bliss is really what you seek, make a stop into the Mandara Spa, with endless rejuvenating treatments to pair with endless views out onto the horizon. With cruises set for Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the Panama Canal, the Norwegian Bliss will provide more than a vessel across the stunning seas – it will be a romantic, thrilling, fun ride into the spectacular.

TIME YOU TACKLED THAT CLASSIC NOVEL
Is vacation the best time for a simple beach read or is it actually the best time to take on that literary masterpiece? Those mega-hit books that are really screenplays in disguise that will end up being big blockbuster movies are by all means fun, known as the “perfect beach read.” But when you’re looking at a week or more of free time, three square meals a day that you don’t have to cook, and probably at most two excursions planned, isn’t vacation really the best time to take on that giant book on your shelf? You know, the one that you always walk past thinking when in the world will I find the time to read that? When better than vacation? Come back from your trip feeling rejuvenated, smarter, and with some literary bragging rights. These novels are all well-regarded literary masterpieces, most of them on lists by Time Magazine or The New York Times, and they’re big, massive, and scary-looking. But with free time on your hands? It’ll be a productive, tropical breeze.

TIME YOU TACKLED THAT CLASSIC NOVEL
BELOVED BY TONI MORRISON In 2006, the New York Times polled writers and critics asking what they thought was the best work of American fiction over the past 25 years. Beloved by Toni Morrison won. The novel is also on Time Magazine’s list of greatest English language novels of the past 100 years. In other words – it’s unanimously pretty great.
home run in 1951 all the way through to the 1990s. The most creative invention perhaps is the thread that ties it all together; lost to history, Bobby Thompson’s home run ball
SUTTREE BY CORMAC MCCARTHY More of a wildcard pick, this novel took McCarthy decades to write and is his most autobiographical. It’s more than an epic on the page – it was to write it as well. McCarthy’s novel Blood Meridian was the third most important novel according to the New York Times poll, and is also listed on Time Magazine’s list, a mega-sprawling Western, but Suttree is a more humorous read and we daresay more impressive of a novel.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning novel follows the life of an escaped slave in post-Civil War Ohio and is a sweeping and honest journey through history and the human condition. A little over 300 pages, it may not run as long as some others on this list, but the language is dense and full of poetry. A Lighter Read: Jazz by Toni Morrison, what she calls her “best book,” may be just as meaningful and dense in poetic language, but it comes in at just over 200 pages.
For about 500 pages, hang out with Cornelius Suttree, who has forsaken a life of privilege and wealth to live on a small houseboat, eking out a living as a fisherman, and hanging out with a motley crew of friends down on the riverfront in Knoxville, Tennessee circa 1951.
UNDERWORLD BY DON DELILLO The runner-up novel in the New York Time’s poll is this behemoth – all 827 pages of it. On a shortlist of American writers that are always whispered about winning the Nobel Prize in Literature (Toni Morrison already won in 1993), DeLillo really goes for broke on this one.
fell into the hands of a mysterious fan and no one knows where the ball went from there. Don DeLillo fills in the blanks, tracing the baseball through the decades as the landscape of America keeps changing.
The novel encapsulates the Cold War era and spans the time from Bobby Thompson’s famous “Shot Heard Round the World”
A Lighter Read: DeLillo’s most well-known novel is White Noise, listed on Time Magazine’s list for greatest English language

novels of the last 100 years, so it’s definitely no waste of time, just over 300 pages and is intensely funny the whole way.
A Lighter Read: McCarthy also wrote the Oprah’s Book Club pick The Road, an apocalyptic father and son journey, which is so short it could be read in one sitting. Plus, he also wrote No Country for Old Men, which originally started out as a screenplay and went on to be adapted by the Coen Brothers in the Academy Awardwinning film.
TIME YOU TACKLED THAT CLASSIC NOVEL CRIME AND PUNISHMENT BY DOSTOEVESKY
GRAVITY’S RAINBOW BY THOMAS PYNCHON
GONE WITH THE WIND BY MARGARET MITCHELL
You’ve always wanted to tackle those classic Russian texts. On a long trip, these doorstop novels by Dostoevsky and Tolstoy can finally be conquered.
We actually dare you to try reading this one. Perhaps the most elusive, confusing, hilariously oddball novel of the last century, this National Book Award winner is (sort of) about World War II, coming in at around 760 pages, with many of them breaking out into song. On Time Magazine’s list, it’s no doubt regarded as a classic, but we might even admit that it could be a pretty tough beach read. How about we just get to the lighter option, or as famed New York Times literary critic Michiko Kakutani calls it: Pynchon Lite.
It’ll be tough to lug in a suitcase – a side note here should be that all of these perhaps will travel better via Kindle – this 1,000-plus page masterpiece is the ultimate romantic epic, set in the Old South, a quintessential American tale that was made into just as quintessential an American movie.
What’s more important than the topics of war, peace, crime, and punishment? Well, that’s why these novels are so widely read and so well-regarded. Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment runs well over 600 pages jampacked with tension and suspense. With over 480,000 reviews on Goodreads – a website where readers can rate books from a scale of 1 to 5 – it holds an impressive 4.2 rating, meaning it’s really entertaining once you actually get around to reading it. WAR AND PEACE BY LEO TOLSTOY Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace is even larger, at a cool 1,000-plus pages, touching on those large themes named in the title. And with over 200,000 reviews on Goodreads, it, too, holds a solid 4.11 score. A Lighter Read: Yeah, no. Only mammoth epics here. Just make sure you wear sunscreen!
A Lighter Read: Inherent Vice is actually the perfect beach read. It takes place at the beach, circa 1970 California, was adapted into an Academy Award-nominated film starring Joaquin Phoenix, and you’d still get some literary bragging rights in the meantime. Follow private gumshoe (in this world, “gum sandal”), aka detective, “Doc” Sportello as he tries to unravel a plot that starts out confusing and ends even more confusing, but it’s a funny, sad thrill along the way, and a romance story at heart.
Gone with the Wind – or, in Aruba, also known as Gone with the Trade Wind – is a classic coming-of-age story that was the most popular read when it came out in 1936 and continued to be one of the most widely read books through the decades. With almost a million reviews on Goodreads, and a stellar 4.28 rating, it’s perhaps the most essential American epic of them all – and, well, with a million reviews, we assume there’s a good chance you’ve already read it. Either way – you get the idea. With a stressfree, easy-living summer getaway to the beach, why not catch up on the classics? Though your vacation may feel like it’s gone with the wind in no time, you’ll have memories to last, plus literary bragging rights to carry forever.

IT’S BEER O’CLOCK IN PARADISE Though it might be difficult to find an IPA – “India Pale Ale,” a hoppy and usually strong beer style – or a thick stout at your favorite Caribbean resort, these local breweries operate on island time, serving up beers perfect for that 5 o’clock somewhere state of mind. Admit it: you don’t want a dense stout or IPA poolside anyway. No matter your level of beer snobbery, there’s something perfect about that tropical brew. Time you met the beer brands.
Aruba: Balashi
“Aruba’s Beer” is perfect for a hot day with intermittent Trade Winds. Whether you’re at one of Aruba’s exquisite restaurants, or at the swim-up bar at your all-inclusive resort, Balashi will be on tap. This pale lager cools you down and keeps you in an island state of mind. A true homebrew, the beer is literally crafted by the people. The name itself was chosen by the citizens of Aruba. The brewery held a contest to see what the people wanted their beer to be called, and “balashi,” or “near the sea,” was the winner. 22
LIBERTY TRAVEL | CALL 1.866.823.5788
Saint Lucia: Piton
“La Biere Sent Lisi” (the Beer of Saint Lucia) is another crisp pilsner with a floral, hoppy aroma. First put out on the Saint Lucian market in 1992, the brand is synonymous with island fun – plus, like Coors in America, it’s a refreshing mountain brew. Instead of the Rockies, the majestic Piton mountains will be the backdrop to sipping this one. These majestic and iconic volcanic plugs rise out of the Caribbean Sea, and easy to pair any beer with this breathtaking view, it’s even better with a Piton.
The Bahamas: Kalik
“The Beer of The Bahamas” is another smooth-sipper. Launched in 1988, Kalik got its name based on a sound of a cowbell. Yes – you read that right. During Junkanoo, one of the Bahamas’ largest cultural events, the sound of cowbells can be heard constantly, creating a unique sound and music that goes something like “kalik, kalikin’ kalik.” A golden, premium lager, it’s an ideal match for that Bahamas’ sun, paradise beaches, and world-class resorts.
Puerto Rico: Medalla Light
A true icon of Puerto Rico, Medalla Light has been brewing for 80 years, so you know they got the recipe right at this point. A light lager that goes down easy, this is another classic example of the tropical recipe ideal to pair with a good beach read and endless sunshine. Family-owned since 1937, the brewery responsible for this iconic brew continues to make the beer of Puerto Rico.
Cayman Islands: Caybrew
Just 10 years young, the Cayman Islands Brewery makes a few beer styles, but their version of the classic island sipper is fantastic. Meet Caybrew – “the Island Beer” – a smooth, premium lager with slight hop character that goes great with a light salad, seafood, and general paradise conditions.
Barbados: Banks
Since 1961, this Barbados staple has been the Caribbean lager of choice. In its distinctive brown glass and black label and loud slogan – “Life Nice!” – Banks Beer wants you to have fun. This is a smooth beer using the finest ingredients and Barbadian water, the perfect pair with Barbados’ unique paradise and stunning resorts.
Belize: Belikin Jamaica: Dragon Stout
OK – of course you’ll be drinking Red Stripe here, a beer closer in style to all of the above – a smooth, golden pale lager. Red Stripe has been Jamaica’s beer since 1928. But Jamaica is also known for its Dragon Stout. In other words – stout lovers, unite! If you love a good, dark stout even in summer temperatures and on island time, then Jamaica may be beer paradise for you. Dragon Stout is a strong stout – at 7.5% ABV (alcohol by volume; the other pilsners on this list are in the 4-5% range) – it’s also remarkably sweet. Refreshing, fulfilling, and tasty, it’s one of Jamaica’s most popular brews.
You know the beers — now pick the island. No matter which island you decide to hop over to, your hop cravings will be taken care of with these breweries ensuring that your palate in paradise has a beer to match.
Going to Belize means you’ll be sipping on more than a beer – it’ll be a “Sir” beer to you. Entrepreneur Barry Bowen helped catapult Belikin beer into the household Belizean name that it is today and he was knighted in 2007 by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to commerce, industry and way of life in Belize. This island brewery also boasts a range of beer styles, but it’s the classic Belikin beer that still hits the spot. The true beer of Belize, it’s a classic continental lager that goes down easy with views of island paradise.
Bermuda Bonus: The Frog & Onion Pub Dominican Republic: Presidente
A classic pilsner – golden, crisp, refreshing, and light – this legendary beer of the Dominican is smooth all the way. It doesn’t have that skunky quality some tropical beers have, and its smoothness is very much like Balashi. Launched in 1935, this brewery is a national staple and it’s that perfect blend to pair with island time relaxation.
Antigua: Wadadli
Antigua’s flagship beer, Wadadli, is a refreshing pale lager named after the original Amerindian word for the island, and has been Antigua’s beer since 1993. With a keen eye towards environmentalism, the brewery uses rigid recycling programs to ensure the beautiful island never changes, while the beer continues to flow.
Cruise into Bermuda and make it an excursion when you dock by heading over to The Frog & Onion Pub at the Royal Naval Dockyard. Walking distance from the cruise ship, this brewpub serves up great food and even better beer. Beer made from “grain to glass, using Bermuda rainwater and a whole lotta love” according to their website, The Frog & Onion Pub is a beer lover’s paradise. Try the Whale of Wheat hefeweizen, a refreshing light wheat beer, and the Black Anchor Porter, a dark style beer similar to stouts but with a much more pronounced smoky character.

THE HEART OF
ARUBA
IS NOT JUST PARADISE – IT’S THE FOOD Where soothing trade winds, tropical temperatures, soft white-sand beaches, divi-divi trees, and world-class resorts dot the sand, Aruba makes for the ideal island getaway. Easy for a casual stroll, the bustling, unique, and quaint downtown area of Oranjestad also means lots of hungry people and lots of competition between restaurants. Luckily for the consumer — in this case, paradise-seeker — you get to choose which restaurant is most up your alley. If you want a place to start, here are a few of our Aruban favorites.

Going Dutch – Quinta Del Carmen
Aruba is Dutch after all, so make sure you get to this spot serving an eclectic blend of dishes and some Dutch classics. You’ll also get to enjoy a meal in this “cunucu” style house that was originally built as early as 1916. It was many things over the years, including a hospital and a clubhouse, but is now a mustvisit Dutch restaurant on the island. Some menu highlights: • Sucade Lappen (Draadjesvlees), a traditional Dutch dish, similar to an iron steak, stewed for hours in a red wine and herbs and spices, served in its own gravy • Scallops “Au Gratin,” scallops under a crust of Béchamel sauce and Old Amsterdam cheese • Cheese Croquettes, served with a raspberry coulis and a summer salad with grapes and nuts
Romance Deserves a Sunset – Amuse Sunset Restaurant
Set your sights on the perfect Aruban sunset. This French-inspired, seaside haven is a family-run restaurant that is nothing less than exquisite — mostly because of the perfect pairing of Chef Patrick and sommelier, cocktail whiz Ivette. The married couple runs this impeccable restaurant with ideal views to match the cuisine that’s just as incredible. “Chef’s surprise” menus are very popular, daily 3 to 5 course carte blanche option as well: • Foie Gras, pan-seared goose liver with green apple braised in port • 10 oz. Rock Lobster Thermidor, lobster cooked in thermidor sauce, gratinated in oven with parmigiano • Baked Shrimp Mac & Cheese Casserole, shrimp and cheese au gratin with macaroni, gruyere, mozzarella, and cheddar
Culinary Euphoria at The Flying Fishbone A wild name for a wildly delicious experience, this is your on-the-beach dining and seafood must-stop – a full culinary journey right on Aruba’s soft sands. Enjoy a meal lit by tiki torches, lanterns, or the sunset. This Europeaninfluenced restaurant gives everything a Caribbean flair, and how can you not when situated right on the very definition of paradise itself? The menu is almost overflowing with fresh seafood, so it’s also a seafood-lover’s paradise. Some menu highlights: • Savaneta Seafood History, a rich variety of seafood acquired daily from the local fish market down the road, with rice, vegetables, and curry sauce • Shrimp Shiitake & Bleu Cheese Casserole, shrimp in a rich bleu cheese shiitake sauce served with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables • Seafood Pasta, scallop, shrimp, mussels, daily catch, calamari, and pasta with marinara sauce
The Neighborhood Bar – Charlie’s
An island staple since 1941, Charlie’s Bar & Restaurant is the local spot you want to come to for camaraderie, fun, and an extremely unique ambiance. Absolutely covered in memorabilia, you’ll find just about everything on the walls – from pictures, souvenirs, miscellany, tchotchkes, and signs, including street signs for the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, and even the New Jersey Turnpike. A classic place to pull up a chair for a drink, this now iconic hangout is a must-visit when in Aruba. CALL 1.866.823.5788 | LIBERTY TRAVEL

HALLOWEEN – RIVIERA MAYA Halloween, or Día de las Brujas, is seen as a children’s holiday in Mexico, but you’ll want to enjoy this holiday south of the border because Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, starts the day after. This two-day celebration (Nov. 1-2) welcomes back family and friends who have passed, and according to the Aztec, Toltec, and other Nahua people’s beliefs, their spirits are able to return to Earth briefly during these days. Immerse yourself in this colorful holiday, sprinkled with sugar skulls, skeleton costumes, and marigolds. Many resorts start the celebration early on Oct. 31, but unlike Halloween, which showcases trickery and terror, the Día de los Muertos embraces life and love, as mourning was seen as disrespectful in the pre-Hispanic cultures of Mexico.
THANKSGIVING – ARUBA Try something new for your Thanksgiving feast. In Aruba, you’ll find diverse cuisine, influenced by African, Spanish, French, Indian, Chinese, and Dutch specialties. Make your Thanksgiving spread one to remember by indulging at one of the island’s many ethnic restaurants, or try the local Aruban fare. A favorite restaurant of locals and travelers alike, the Old Cunucu House Restaurant welcomes hungry visitors to a 150-year-old house in the countryside, or cunucu, and serves up keshi yena or stuffed Gouda cheese filled with savory meat and various vegetables, and quesillo, caramel custard. For breakfast, try the Crêpe Bar, offering tropical flavors on the traditional French dish.

The huge open-air party, located between the gate and Victory Column, lights up the night with live bands, DJs, laser shows, and an unbelievable fireworks display. Try something new at food stands offering quick bites from around the world. Though partygoers start arriving at 2:00 p.m., the celebration kicks off officially at 7:00 p.m. and continues through the New Year countdown until 3:00 a.m. the following morning.
VALENTINE’S DAY – SAINT LUCIA

One of the top honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean, Saint Lucia lures lovers with its numerous adults-only resorts. The island is also the quintessential tropical destination with lush vegetation and flora, creating an ambiance of a secluded romantic getaway. For lively couples, soar above the trees with a zip-line adventure and get on the back trails with an ATV tour. Then return to your resort to relax in ultimate bliss. OFF THE BEATEN PATH
GUIDE TO
OAHU Hawaii’s most popular island sure has a lot of iconic sights, but it’s these lesser-known spots that have truly captured our attention. Sure, Oahu and Honolulu’s iconic sights are definitely must-sees. But if you’ve already been-there-donethat, want to skip the crowds, or are just in the mood for unique experiences, swap some of the top tourist sites for these off-the-beaten-path treasures.

PACIFIC AVIATION MUSEUM The Arizona Memorial isn’t the only place to learn about Hawaii’s WWII history. Right on Pearl Harbor’s Ford Island you’ll find the Pacific Aviation Museum, an Army Air Corps base turned one of the best history museums in the country. Visitors get upclose and personal with aircrafts responsible for shaping the history of Hawaii and the Pacific, with particular attention to the events surrounding the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. You can even climb into the cockpit and test your pilot skills in their flight simulator.
MAKAPU’U LIGHTHOUSE TRAIL Hawaii’s tropical and mountainous terrain makes it a top destination for hiking. While many adventurers flock to the peak of Oahu’s Diamond Head, we also suggest you take a stroll up the Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail. While the lighthouse is your destination, it’s the journey that truly captures hearts. The gentle ascent to the top of the hill is paired with stunning views of the Pacific and a seaside soundtrack to match.
UNCLE CLAY’S HOUSE OF PURE ALOHA ALA MOANA BEACH PARK We’ll always have Waikiki, but if you want to bum in the sun at another spectacular – and less crowded – beach, grab your towel and head for Ala Moana Beach Park. Located between Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu, this stretch of sand is pure paradise and a favorite with the locals. The crystal clear water here is calm and makes for easy swimming thanks to the outer reefs that block the big waves. It’s also the ideal conditions for paddle boarding.
Hawaiian shave ice is the go-to treat when you need to cool off from the islands’ endless sunny days. Matsumoto’s on Oahu’s North Shore is a favorite of locals, tourists, and celebrities alike, which means the line can get pretty long. For a quicker cool-down, try the all-natural, homemade creations at Uncle Clay’s House of Pure Aloha. You can order one of their suggested flavor combos or create your own with tempting syrups like guava, green tea, and pineapple. Top it off with ice cream, mochi, or fresh fruit for that extra island touch.
Oahu is full of treasures, and you should explore them all. But when you’re in the mood to experience something unique, take the path less traveled and discover these hidden gems on Hawaii’s most popular island. Plan your own offbeat adventure to Hawaii today, and book an appointment with a travel consultant. CALL 1.866.823.5788 | LIBERTY TRAVEL
