PREPARING FOR LIFE AT LIBERTY TO BRING OR NOT TO BRING The lists below include items which are supplied, allowed, or prohibited in the residence halls. University furniture may not be removed from the room. Plan accordingly with your roommate(s) to avoid duplicating items. Wall hangings may only be hung with push pins or tacks on dry wall, not cinder block. Use of tape or adhesive putty is at your own risk. Students are held responsible for any wall damage or discoloration. THINGS TO BRING • Bible • Pillow, sheets, blankets, mattress pad, storage crates for travel, flashlight with extra batteries • Laundry basket, drying rack, ironing board, iron, laundry detergent, fabric softener, quarters for laundry if living on Main Campus, shower shoes, a small sewing kit, safety pins • Rain jacket, umbrella, backpack • A computer, pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, ruler, calculator, stapler, tape, paper, envelopes, scissors, a dictionary and thesaurus, alarm clock, desk lamp, note cards, stamps, contact lens supplies, glasses, power strips with circuit breakers • Window cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, broom, trash can, trash bags • Bandages, hydrogen peroxide, antiseptic cream,

VEHICLE REGISTRATION All vehicles on campus must have a current Liberty University parking decal properly displayed. Decals will be available during Fall 2014 Welcome Week, Aug. 14-15. Passes for Summer Orientation are available at www.Liberty.edu/SummerOrientation. Additional parking and traffic regulations are listed online along with vehicle registration forms at www.Liberty.edu/LUPD. INSTITUTIONAL LIABILITY The university will not be responsible for damage to or loss of personal belongings, which are a result of fire, wind, water, insects, rodents, vandalism, or theft. However, when damage or loss is reported, the university will take reasonable steps to resolve the problem. Students are encouraged to make sure personal belongings are covered by their parent’s homeowners policy or a renters insurance policy. Students residing off campus are encouraged to obtain homeowners or renters insurance to protect themselves against unforeseen circumstances.

COLLEGE CREDIT & COURSE PLACEMENT Assessments COMPUTER ASSESSMENT To ensure that Liberty students are proficient in computer technology, they are required to take Information Technology (INFT 110) or pass all areas (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) of the computer assessment. Students who do not pass at least two areas of the computer assessment in their first semester must take INFT 110 within their first 45 credit hours, or within their first year if a transfer student. Students passing all but one area of the assessments are required to take a 1-credit course within their first 45 credit hours (or within their first year as a transfer student) for the corresponding assessment they did not pass (PowerPoint-INFT 102, Excel-INFT 103, Word-INFT 104). Passing the computer assessment or INFT 110 will satisfy the technology competency requirement as listed on the Degree Completion Plan (DCP). Transfer students may substitute a computer course for INFT 110 to satisfy the requirement. The computer assessment will be available at the beginning of the fall semester. MATH AND ENGLISH The Math and English Assessments are for proficiency and placement, and the results are useful in determining student class schedules. SAT/ACT scores are also used for class placement.* Students transferring in a college-level math or English class may be exempt from taking the assessment. Note that students will be unable to register for classes until they have taken all required assessments. PLACEMENT FOR ENGLISH

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and the Institutional Challenge Examination (ICE) CLEP and ICE tests offer a unique opportunity to gain college credit for the knowledge you have already acquired. Scores from the SAT or the ACT tests are good predictors of success in taking CLEP/ICE exams. Students who score well on these tests typically do well on CLEP/ICE exams. For additional information, go to www.Liberty.edu/CLEP or www.Liberty.edu/ICEResidential.
Course Scheduling Information Visit www.Liberty.edu/Registration to view tutorials and course sequences for most majors. If you wish to request a prerequisite override for courses other than math, submit a request to the appropriate academic department chair. Request a prerequisite override for general education math (MATH 110, 115, or 121) by emailing the College of General Studies (DeMoss Hall, Room 3036) at cgs@liberty.edu. For higher math courses, contact the Mathematics Department at (434) 582-7002 or math@liberty.edu. We encourage you to take a math course during your first year. If you have been accepted on academic caution, you must take CLST 101/103, College Learning Strategies, and may register for no more than 13 or 14 credits your first semester. Schedules that do not conform to this policy will be administratively adjusted. If you have questions about registering for classes, contact CASAS (434) 592-4110 Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., or email CASAS@liberty.edu. Refrain from scheduling courses that duplicate Advanced Placement or CLEP/ICE test credits, or classes that have already been transferred in. It is also important to schedule classes during the time of day that you are at your best. A typical, full-time college schedule is 12-18 credit hours; however, first-semester students should avoid taking more than 15 credit hours unless otherwise instructed. Schedule your classes according to requirements for your intended major or interest area. For degree completion plans describing course requirements for your major, visit www.Liberty.edu/DCPs. If you are undecided on your major, you should take foundational studies courses. For a list of courses required of all Liberty students visit www.Liberty.edu/CASAS. COMPUTER ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES Students opting to take the Computer Assessment will be charged a one-time fee of $55 to cover the cost of the Computer Assessment software (myitlab). Open labs will also be available at scheduled times throughout the semester between Aug. 27-Oct. 19. The Reber-Thomas Dining Hall, Liberty’s primary residential dining facility, is currently being remodeled and will be completed in time for the Fall 2014 semester. The dining hall currently features stations such as the centrally located soup and salad bar, an Asian cuisine-inspired station, and the Simple Servings station, which offers homemade meals prepared without seven of the eight most common food allergens, as specified by the FDA. Pending upgrades will add stations to present an even wider variety of cuisines and double the size of many existing stations. In an effort to be more accommodating and convenient for all of our students, whatever their schedule or dietary needs, the dining hall will soon expand its hours and its health and wellness dining, including specialized menus for training athletes as well as students with dietary restrictions.

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA) Personal information contained in a student’s educational record including grades, class schedule, student account, and financial aid will remain private, unless that student consents to disclose that information. A personal identification number (PIN) system is created and must be used to access any personally identifiable information. Directory information, which is not generally considered harmful or an invasion of privacy, may be disclosed to the public. To create a FERPA PIN: 1. Log into your ASIST account and select “General Information” 2. Select “FERPA Personal Identification Number” 3. Create a PIN For more information, visit www.Liberty.edu/FERPA. TRANSFER STUDENTS Transfer students are required to attend the Transfer Student Orientation during Fall Welcome Week even if they attend Summer Orientation. If you have questions about transferring to Liberty, please visit www.Liberty.edu/Transfer. All students must take Biblical Worldview (BWVW) I and II within their first two Liberty semesters. These courses must be taken regardless of the general education courses that have been transferred in. New students beginning Fall 2014 or later must also pass University Core Competencies (UNIV 101) before they can graduate. This 1-credit course is designed to help students practice the competencies needed for university, as well as career, success.
