A summer of fun

Summer is almost here and Lichfield District Council has an exciting range of activities and events that will entertain your children and teenagers throughout the holidays. We’re sure to have something for everyone, from week-long playschemes, to coaching courses, to a triathlon training camp. We offer sessions that run all week and ones for just one hour, this means you can pick and choose what you want to do. Choose from . . . The playschemes offer a wide range of informal and structured play activities based on games, art, sports and drama for children aged between 5 and 11. If your child is 4 but turns 5 before the 1 September this year they can also join in the fun. Play activity weeks (page 2) These weeks are for children and young people aged from 7 to 13 years who want to try something new or develop their skills in an activity that they already enjoy. Days out for children and young people with disabilities (page 2) We’re providing day trips for children and young people with disabilities aged from 5 to 19 years. We pick up at King Edward VI Leisure Centre in Lichfield and Burntwood Leisure Centre. Contact the Play Development team on 01543 308765 for more details.

Summer Programme 2010 Our team of Play Rangers will be visiting local parks, play areas and open spaces, to provide free sessions and support to encourage outdoor play. Outdoor play can include informal sports, games and activities using the natural environment. As well as the usual sports and games, the Play Rangers will have equipment such as tyres, logs, ropes and tarpaulin - all great for creating dens, assault courses or whatever else sparks the imagination!

. . . . . .

What you need to know Each session can take up to 16 children. Places will be filled on a first come, first served basis. No bookings will be taken - it’s turn up and play. Children aged between 5 & 13 are welcome at daytime sessions. Children under 8 can only join in if they are brought to, and picked up from the session by an adult. Unaccompanied children aged 8 and over can come to and leave the session whenever they want. We call this open access, contact us for more information. Each child will need to sign a register and tell us their age. We’ll also ask children to provide a parent or carers telephone number - just in case we need to get in contact.

. .

. All children who are brought to the session by an adult, even . . . .

those over 8, must be collected by an adult who is recognised by the child. Each session will last just under 1 1_2 hours and accompanied children must be collected on time. Everyone who takes part will be given a sticker so we can see at a glance who’s with us. A code of conduct will be read out at the beginning of each session to ensure children are aware of how to play safely and considerately. Sometimes play can lead to bumps and bruises. The Play Rangers will supervise all activities but the district council cannot accept liability for typical playtime injuries.
