Tredegar Town Band

Brighouse & Rastrick Band

Reg Vardy Band

We are pleased to welcome back to our series the 2013 Butlins Mineworks Champion the Virtuosi GUS Band. Formed in 1933 as the Munn and Felton Works Band it has enjoyed sustained contest success over the years having won no less than six national titles, the British Open Championship and being proclaimed World Champion. In 2013 the band is celebrating 80 years of outstanding music making and a story which had its beginning in a small Northamptonshire shoe factory.

We are pleased to welcome 2013 Welsh Open Champion Tredegar Town Band to our series. With roots going back to 1849 the band has proudly represented its community throughout the brass banding world for 135 years. 2010 was a truly historic year with the band claiming no less than seven major domestic and national titles, culminating with the unique double feat of winning the Grand Shield and the British Open Championship in the same year.

Brighouse & Rastrick is regarded by many as the best and most consistent ‘public subscription band’ in the world. The band was formed over 125 years ago through public donations given by the townsfolk of the adjacent villages of Brighouse and Rastrick. The band is proud of its continued success independent of sponsorship.

Formed in 1910 as the Craghead Colliery band in County Durham, the band was sponsored by Ever Ready in 1968 and in 2003 it signed a new deal with the Reg Vardy Group. Following this, for the first time in its history, it finished in the top ten in every major contest for two consecutive years. Thirty three times North of England Regional Champion, the Reg Vardy Band was the 2011 winner of the Grand Shield.
