Tredegar Town Band
Hammonds Saltaire Band
Following its triumphant debut in the season last year, we are delighted to welcome back 2013 British Open Champion Tredegar Town Band to open our 14/15 series. With roots going back to 1849, the band has proudly represented its community throughout the brass banding world for 135 years. 2010 was a truly historic year with the band claiming no less than seven major domestic and national titles, culminating with the unique double feat of winning the Grand Shield and the British Open Championship in the same year.
The Hammonds Saltaire Band was formed over 150 years ago by Sir Titus Salt for the benefit of his mill workers in Saltaire. The band enjoyed many successful years as the Hammonds Sauce Works Band. Despite the changes of name and uniform there has been one constant throughout the history of the band; a desire and passion to produce the highest quality music to suit any concert venue in the country. Under the direction of Music Director Morgan Griffiths the band has gone from strength to strength and is one of the most successful of all contesting bands in the last twenty years.

Brighouse & Rastrick Band
Flowers Band
Current holder of the Yorkshire Regional Champion title, Brighouse & Rastrick is regarded by many as the best and most consistent ‘public subscription band’ in the world. The band was formed over 125 years ago through public donations given by the townsfolk of the adjacent villages of Brighouse and Rastrick. The band, National Champion of Great Britain 2010 and 2011, is proud of its continued success independent of sponsorship.
We are pleased to welcome back to the series the current holder of the Grand Shield, The Flowers Band. Based in Gloucester it rose rapidly up the Championship Section ladder in 1986 where it has since established itself in the top 20 of the Brass Band World Rankings table. The Band records regularly for Radio 2’s Listen To The Band and has appeared on BBC 1’s Songs of Praise alongside continued contest successes.

Fairey Band
Foden’s Band
Current North West Area Champion, the Fairey Band was founded in 1937 by employees at the Fairey Aviation Works in Stockport. In recent years the band has enjoyed further recognition outside the confines of the brass band movement with its involvement in the ‘Acid Brass’ project. Under this banner, the Fairey Band has been able to display its flexibility in adapting to a totally different musical concept and has performed in rock and pop festivals in the UK and overseas.
Formed in 1900 in the Cheshire village of Sandbach, the band maintains a world class reputation for providing quality entertainment in the field of brass music with a traditional and unique style. Recent highlights include radio and television work as well as tours to Italy, Switzerland, America and Scandinavia. The band made history in 2014 by winning First Prize at all eleven Tameside villages in the Whit Friday March contests, the first band to do so since 1884.
