Leeds Lunchtime

Organ Music 2012/13

Leeds Town Hall Mondays at 1.05pm Free Admission

Welcome to the upcoming season in the fortieth anniversary year of the restoration of the Organ at Leeds Town Hall.

2012 Monday 10 September

The Choir of The Queen’s College, Oxford Dr Owen Rees director

Monday 17 September

We are delighted to host so many guests and welcome back old friends; these include singers and instrumentalists as well as keyboard players. Two special programmes commemorate Brian Peter Wilson, who cared for the Town Hall Organ with great distinction for so long and Dr John Birch, formerly Organist of Chichester Cathedral, The Temple Church, the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra who died in April.

Ben Thapa

The series gets under way with a visit from the acclaimed Choir of The Queen’s College, Oxford, under the direction of Dr Owen Rees. We also have eagerly-anticipated visits from the component choirs of the Yorkshire Three Choirs’ Festival and from the Choirs of Leeds Cathedral and Leeds Minster. Additionally, warm welcomes go to St Peter’s Singers and Chamber Orchestra, the University of Huddersfield Brass Band and Principals of the National Festival Orchestra.

A special recital in memory of organ builder and tenor singer Brian Wilson, who was an integral member of the team that restored the Town Hall instrument forty years ago, and who also worked as curator of the organ at Leeds Minster for over forty years.

Again this season there are two Meet the Town Hall Organ presentations and we look forward to those greatly. Other “regulars” in our schedule include organ accompaniment to a silent film during the Leeds International Film Festival. So, if organ music be your food of love, come feast with us in Leeds! Very sincerely Simon Lindley City Organist
