Leeds Lunchtime Organ Music 2014/15
Mondays at 1.05pm
Leeds Town Hall
2014 Monday 22 September
Simon Lindley City Organist
Smart Cocker Rawsthorne Liszt
Welcome to the 2014/15 lunchtime concerts on Mondays. The magnificent Town Hall organ features in solo recitals and as a medium for accompaniment. This season, unusually, there is one concert of entirely unaccompanied choral music – drawn in the main from the rich repertoire of the Renaissance and appropriate to the November liturgies of All Saints and All Souls on 1st and 2nd respectively. Special guests include the University of Huddersfield Brass Band, the Choirs of Leeds Minster, Leeds Cathedral, Wakefield Cathedral, the University of Leeds and St Peter’s Singers. Music includes repertoire appropriate for this special First World War Commemoration anniversary and 2015 marks the 150th birthdays of two great Northern organist-composers – the East Riding’s Alfred Hollins from Hull, who spent most of his working life in Edinburgh, and Blackburn’s William Wolstenholme; these English musicians also share a sesquicentenary with the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Special thanks go to everyone for their support and encouragement and not least to those who, week by week, contribute so generously to our retiring collections. Very sincerely Simon Lindley City Organist
