Leeds Lunchtime

Organ Music 2016/17

Unfolding from a programme recalling the English Edwardian period in the first decade and a half of the last century, this season’s lunchtime organ concerts again feature solo recitals of repertoire for the king of instruments alongside concerts with guests musicians; there are four such events, designated Organ in Consort. Among many particular points of interest, David Houlder reaches the last component of programmes featuring the fine sonatas of Alexandre Guilmant – he ends with the eighth, completed in 1906 just five years prior to its composer’s death in 1911. It is a privilege, as well as a very real pleasure, to be able to welcome so many distinguished artists and ensembles as well as members of our regular audience. It is the hope of us all that you enjoy the music on offer and find our programmes enlightening as well as entertaining. This will be the final series in which I will have been closely involved both in terms of planning and presenting the concerts on a regular basis. I have enjoyed the work immensely, and benefited immeasurably from the kindness and professionalism of colleagues here at the Town Hall over the years. I look forward to further collaborations as and when scheduled. With every possible good wish to you all. Simon Lindley City Organist
