Leeds Town Hall
Welcome to Leeds International Concert Season’s 2017/18 Orchestral Season.
The 2017/18 season opens with a visit from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra: in the season that leads to its 125th Anniversary, the orchestra and Chief Conductor Kirill Karabits present Messiaen’s epic Turangalîla-symphonie, last heard here in Leeds in 1998.
From abroad we are delighted to welcome tours by the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by maestro Jiří Bělohlávek, Russian State Philharmonic Orchestra, and Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra with Principal Conductor Michael Sanderling and soloist Jennifer Pike. The finest British orchestras continue to visit Leeds Town Hall including the Hallé with Music Director Sir Mark Elder, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The middle symphonies of Beethoven are explored by the Hallé with conductor Karina Canellakis, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with Principal Guest Conductor Ilan Volkov and the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. We are delighted to welcome the three most recent winners of the Leeds International Piano Competition, Anna Tsybuleva performing Ravel and Schumann, Sofya Gulyak presenting Gershwin and Sunwook Kim playing Brahms. Leeds is lucky enough to boast two great choral societies, both playing an important role in the season. Leeds Philharmonic Chorus performs Howells’ Hymnus Paradisi in November and Leeds Festival Chorus presents Bach’s St John Passion in March before both choruses join together for a resounding performance of Berlioz’ The Damnation of Faust in May. Leeds International Orchestral Season continues to be one of the finest orchestral programmes in the country. We look forward to welcoming you to Leeds Town Hall during the 2017/18 season.
