Fans of Irish music recieve an early Christmas present this year. Lawrence’s own Ashley Davis performs with Lúnasa, one of Ireland’s most beloved traditional instrumental bands. The musical passport of recording artist and songwriter Ashley Davis offers a rich display of colorful stamps from Ireland and Scotland, but also heavily draws from the influences of her birthplace, the Kansas plains, and the country music traditions borne of the Appalachian Mountains. An internationally recognized recording artist and songwriter, Ashley has collaborated with musical luminaries such as the Chieftains’ Paddy Moloney, fiddle player Eileen Ivers, harpist Cormac De Barra, “First Lady of Celtic Music,” Moya Brennan, Sara Watkins, and John Doyle among many others.

Named for an ancient Celtic harvest festival, Lúnasa is comprised of some of the top musical talents in Ireland. Appearing in Lúnasa tonight is Colin Farrell on fiddle, Kevin Crawford on whistles, Cillian Vallely on pipes and whistles, Trevor Hutchinson on double bass and Patrick Doocey on guitar. The band is unique within the Celtic music genre because it performs not just high-octane jigs and reels, but also slower airs and melodies. The group’s musicianship has the virtuosity of a finely-honed jazz combo and the energy of a rock band. Folk Roots magazine has rightly termed them an “Irish music dream team.”
