Hermès Quartet The Hermès Quartet (violinists Omer Bouchez and Elise Liu, violist Yung-Hsin Chang, and cellist Anthony Kondo) displays “musical intelligence, sensitivity and overall unity of ensemble beautifully” (Le Courrier, France). A Winner of the 2012 Young Concert Artists (YCA) International Auditions, the young French Hermès Quartet makes its New York and Washington, D.C., debuts this season as the opening events of the Young Concert Artists Series at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall, and at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater. The Quartet’s first U.S. tour includes performances at the Port Washington Library, the University of Georgia, the Lied Center of Kansas, the Kaufman Cultural Center and Friends of Music. The Hermès Quartet will also appear abroad in France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Canada. The Paris-based Hermès Quartet has appeared throughout Europe. In Italy the group performed at the Teatro Ristori, Società del Quartetto, Associazione Musicale Vincenzo Bellini Messina, the Chamber Music Association of Trieste, Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, the Viareggio Festival, and Paganini Festival de la Spezia; in France at the Quatuors à St Roch Festival, Yverdon-les-Bains Castle, Festival Quatuor à L’Ouest, Château de Lourmarin, and Festival Musique dans le Grésivaudan; and in Germany at Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The quartet is currently the artist in residence at the 2013 Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels. The ensemble has performed at European festivals, including the Epau Festival, Les Musicades in Lyon, Le Festival de Radio France et Montpellier and at the Lockenhaus Festival in Austria. Winning First Prize at the 2011 Geneva International Music Competition, the quartet was awarded the “Coup de Coeur Breguet” prize, which brought them a recording on the Ysaye Records/Nascor label. The quartet also won First Prize at the 2011 European Young Concert Artists Auditions in Leipzig, Germany; First Prize at the 2009 Lyon International Music Competition, with a special award for their interpretation of Ainsi la Nuit by Henry Dutilleux, the Press Prize, the Audience Prize, and the Bayer “Coup de Coeur;” and First Prize at the 2010 European Chamber Music Competition in Paris.

HERMÉS QUARTET

At the YCA Auditions, the quartet was awarded concert prizes at the Lied Center of Kansas and the Candlelight Concert Society in Maryland. The members of the quartet met at the Lyon Conservatory and formed the ensemble in 2008 under the tutelage of Zoltan Toth and Reiko Kitahama. They are currently earning master’s degrees at the Berlin University of Arts, where they work with the Artemis Quartet and are also studying at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Paris with members of the Ysaÿe Quartet.

Young Concert Artists Series Hermès Quartet is part of the Young Concert Artists (YCA) Series. YCA was founded in 1961 as a professional non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and launching the careers of exceptional, but unknown, young musicians from all over the world.
