APR 5 | Nataanii Means

There will be no intermission during this performance. Nataanii Means (Oglala Lakota, Omaha, Dine’) is a talented hip-hop artist. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts and majored in filmmaking with a desire to tell his stories and the stories of Indigenous people. He has performed at countless universities, high schools, middle schools and youth programs both nationally and internationally in Canada and Europe. He recently finished two European tours in 2017. He has been featured in MTV’s Rebel Music: Native America and Viceland’s Standing Rock Part ll as well as Billboard magazine and thefader.com. His 2013 debut album, 2 Worlds, is an ode to the double life that contemporary American Indians must navigate and features Sicangu Lakota hip-hop artist Frank Waln on the track “Real Skinz.” He released his second album, Balance, in 2018. In addition to his musical talents, Nataanii is an advocate for Indigenous rights, human rights and environmental causes, often helping organizations fight against oil companies, fracking and other extraction projects that affect Indigenous and all communities. He also works in youth suicide prevention on reservations across North America. This event is in association with the KU Powwow & Indigenous Cultures Festival. Join us on Saturday, April 6 for this free, day-long event presented by the KU First Nations Student Association. In addition to the KU Powwow, there will be educational workshops, children’s activities and much more. Visit lied.ku.edu for the event schedule.
